The first 10 volumes of NT are interesting enough. After the WW3 arc I was knee deep in the series and couldn't stop.
It's the conclusion to NT10 and everything beyond that made me go from "holy shit when's the next volume?" to "okay what's kamachi gonna do this time?". At least it feels like things will get back on track in NT18.

Honestly I think people were in the wrong to expect everything in NT to be like WW3. Kamachi is probably only wanting to bring out climaxes like that at the end. NT's pacing would be odd if it was WW3 arcs in a row. But he fucked up because this NT11-17 would've been better off being the first volumes of NT, and then followed by Othinus arc into whatever is coming next.

OT was a progressive build up into a climax. NT went right into one with Othinus' arc but he probably realized he couldn't keep making consecutive arcs like that if the series was gonna keep going for this long, and went into a smaller arc like the one that just ended.

Basically, OT's pacing was ideal because it went:
>Slow start, lots of foreshadowing and introducing characters important to the endgame of it
But NT went:
>explain OT's ending while leading right into a bigger threat while still introducing important characters, but the endgame isn't in sight, because it's only the beginning
To me, he just fucked up the order of things. I do believe he manages the large character roster fine, because he can tie in the "unimportant" characters whenever.

OT felt great because it felt well planned. Most of the important stuff that was shown or got started in the first volumes came back or reached their conclusion at the end and it felt just right.

The two things that weren't properly resolved were a proper answer for the invisible thing and Mikoto going all the way there while completely ignorant only to be ignored by Touma. And I feel like those things should have been the focus of the story for the arcs that immediatly followed.

OT definitely did not feel well planned when it was partway through. There were significant gaps between the important parts that made it feel like they'd been completely forgotten. The only reason you get the impression it was well planned was because the final quarter tied all of the seemingly random events together so well. NT could very well do the same thing, so I'd wait till the endgame before passing judgement.

My only issue is with the appearance of the magic gods after Othinus. There should have been more of a break between their reappearance where they should have been purged immediately by a more foreshadowed Kamisato and finished off by Aliester and Noukan.

Speaking of Kamisato. He really felt more like an alternate version of Touma than a bizzaro one by the end like everyone was expecting. He was a cunt, but I think that sort of character was necessary to highlight how Touma had changed after NT 9 as well as get him out of his post-NT10 slump.

I don't feel it's quite the same. The first half of OT was mostly disconnected, but that's because things weren't still in motion, so the different volumes were short adventures that set up the pieces on the board, and even back then the Catholic church was shown to be a recurrent antagonist. Once Vento came out everything was a constant escalation for WW3, save for Battle Royale, but that was a setup for DRAGON, plus a setup for Accel and Hamazura that eventually took them to Russia as well

NT begins with a setting already fleshed out, instantly puts the Gremlin plot at the forefront and keeps it running for 10 volumes for a resolution that at least in my opinion was beyond disappointing with the lil' Othinus copout. After that things just keep happening and the magic gods that required 10 volumes for the demise of one are jobbing in mass to this brand new character and etc etc.

I feel like the first 10 volumes of NT were just an epilogue for WW3. I think that going straight into another plot development arc would have ignored the aftermath of the previous one way more than Gremlin.

At the end of the day the aftermath of WW3 was the main focus of the majority of NT-1-10 . Gremlin only came to power and Baggage City only seperated from AC as a result of it and Freshman and Yuuitsu only show up as a result of Accelerator going on cleanup duty for the Darkness of AC.

I'm actually ok with mini-Othinus since her sacrificing herself would have felt like a cop-out redemption. Her being powerless is a much greater punishment since she must observe the world knowing that she will never again have the power to change it. Which will hit the hardest with Touma's eventual death. Though I'll go back on my stance on this stance if she fades into complete irrelevance or gets her powers back while Touma is alive. Since it will render her punishment pointless.

While the resolution of the Magic Gods wasn't great. I'm glad the magic gods did get shafted in the end, rather than showing up as villains each volume since it would have led to a shitty Shounen style powercreep. I also like Yuuitsu, so I've been enjoying reading about her BTFO Kamisato these past few volumes.

I think NT's real problem is it's lack of SS volumes that usually served to showcase characters and concepts we'd never get to see in the main series. They made the world feel alive and showed that events didn't just happen around Touma, which benefited both of them.

NT 11 is a good example of a volume that should have been a side story due to not being relevant to the main one. It would have been a good way to Introduce Kamisato as well.
