i don't particularly like the mc for one. 7 hours in and all he does is mumble and run away. i'm not expecting him to turn into action-man or a smooth talker over night or something but holy shit. too much autism.

the plot does not feel like it's advancing so far. there are only more questions and no answers which is making me really restless and makes me want to skip a lot of lines just to get to whenever something actually happens.

also while the whole 'delusion' mechanic seems interesting on paper i find myself feeling like it's entirely unimportant. whatever choice i make does not seem to effect what's going on whatsoever or if it does, i have no idea how it does that. point is my choices feel unimportant. it's also not very intuitive, took me a bit to figure out how it works but that's not really part of my arguement.

The chaos;head endings really put me off. I think I'd give the entire VN a 6/10.

It was certainly interesting, but I felt I wasn't able to stay engaged most of the time because I didn't know what the fuck was going on.

As you guys know, there are 3 endings. I played A, AA. Then, after much heartache and frustration with the game's mechanics and crashing, I finally made it to B, only to be severely disappointed.

All in all, it was pretty average and lackluster. I hope chaos;child is different.

The hit/miss on Chaos;Head really does come down to whether or not you can enjoy Takumi's autism. His pure autistic behavior is completely separate from many other VN protagonists, which are usually more normal and grounded. For some reason I really enjoyed Takumi's /a/utism when I first read this VN, a few years ago, the VN was better than the anime, but I didn't particularly disliked the anime. Takumi's VA really makes it sound like Takumi is just a loser like us, unlike your new anime trying to appeal to the cool edgy "gamers". He even has only ONE waifu. His suffering is really relatable, and I did enjoy the unpredictable element of the series. Anyone has that picture of the congress of the 300 man, and the connections between chaos;head, robotic;notes and steins;gate?

When does shit start getting explained in Chaos;Head?

I'm probably 2/3 through the VN and losing motivation to finish.

Compare Takumi to somebody like Subaru from Re;Zero(Since that's semi relevant right now), or Kirito, or other fakey otaku blank slate MCs like them.. Both are otaku MC, but Takumi feels more legitimate than Subaru does.

Subaru is kind of autistic but what does actually do for his character? He goes on and on about how socially awkward he is but the show goes out of his way to show how nice and cool of a guy he is. The only time his autism becomes really apparent is when he has random sperg outs to remind the audience that he's a loser like the audience. We're told that he's a loser NEET without that really being shown. Hell for gods sake he even works out. All we get is the occasional reference to something nerdy. He's a complete self insert.

Now take Taku. Taku feels genuinely relatable and his /a/utism all feels legitimate. He constantly uses terminology like it's second hand to him, not just one or two references. His flaws are constantly shown and they screw him over. He doesn't even seem readily aware of his own flaws nor does he constantly remind us that he's a flawed guy. He shows a pretty good understanding on how the anime industry works, and who exactly work on the shows he loves so much. The scene where he was talking about an episode of his favorite show to Yua stands out in particular. He doesn't feel like a character only meant to pander to an Otaku demographic, and that makes him feel like one of us.

Showing vs telling, among other things. Plenty of shows, including Re:Zero use cheap hooks much like "Look at how I fit in with x group! Does anyone else kind of wish they made a sol/comedy/romance spinoff or sequel to Chaos;Head?

Out of a LOT of similar media I've consumed in some capacity, Chaos Head still stands up as one of these highschool/battle shows with some of the MOST memorable and endearing characters; admittedly most of its rivals in those terms are dime-a-dozen highschool fantasy and battle harem junk, which isn't really the main point of Chaos Head, but it works very well in that capacity.

And really, after all the shit that they went through, with such a lovable cast of characters, it really would be nice to see them have a good time and go on some lighthearted adventures (not really sure this could be worked in a cohesive narrative fashion as funny little side stories for the sake of tonal consistency and continuity between the spinoff sequence and the original plot, maybe play it as some alt ending reset button 'perfect world' but something is slightly wrong but they manage to work together to fix it and everything turns out nicely in the end [heck they could even go some kind of rebellion type route to stay in line with the original themes but the underlying mystery and resolution are more lighthearted].

Because someone left a space at the end of the line and the engine treats that space as a character, breaking the line and because after the space follows a carriage return and a line feed, the engine breaks the line again, making the following line flow out of the box.
