The first episode obviously had to be done the way it was done in order to bring newcomers up to speed with the series. It's one of those shows that has too much continuity to be treated as totally episodic, but doesn't have enough plot for episodes to be treated as completely contiguous. Why do people keep calling this episode a recap? It's just adapting what happened in the LN fairly straight-forwardly and, despite the callbacks to earlier in the story, the episode blatantly assumes you already are familiar with what happened and makes no attempts to actually cover the events of the previous season. The animation was not all that great. In fact i would almost call it horrid, especially after what i saw from season one. But the comedy and writing for this episode was spot on. Also, he kinda naturally was who the party was formed around. Aqua goes along with him because she has too and is too retarded to actually take the lead, despite probably having had the opportunity, Darkness decided to be a subordinate for her fetishes originally (it's hard to be ordered to do weird things when you are the leader) and Megumin seriously just never seemed to care about challenging Kazuma, probably due to her insecurities due to her actually understanding all the faults of her build and probably not wanting to challenge Kazuma too much as long as she was getting food and had a party. This is the reason why he became a leader at first.

All 4 of them are jackasses and losers. I can't remember, since the manga (thats so far translated) just finished the Destroyer arc.

All I remember about this chapter is that they used some magical item Wiz's shop had, which sent them to Kazuma's world (for a day), they do some shit, and Kazuma gets to visit his home one last time, finds out his family actually cared that he died, and he gets to delete his internet history. When they returned, they lost all memories of their journey but get to keep items that they got from the modern world.
