Why don't you start start reading, and if it begins to bore you, you stop?

Pretty swell ,but it does become repetative near the end .

The original manga is great all the way through and keeps getting better all the way up to the end. The spin off are fun since they are more Onizuka but they are not as solid as the original run. GTO is my favorite series so I heavily endorse reading all of it.

Am I the only one who liked both the manga and anime endings? Because they both work well in different ways, I think.

If ugly design (at least for the 10 first volume) doesn't bother you, start with Shonan Junai Gumi. Understand Onizuka's youth is, in my opinion, important to really know who he is.

Read Shounan Junai Gumi first.

The anime ends at chapter 106. So just start from there.

Shounan Junai Gumi is the best part but starting with it is a bad idea, you wont be surprised at all by Onizuka's achievements in GTO.
Also you'll lose many great secondary characters by starting GTO, but you'll gain them by starting Shounan Junai Gumi. There's a good chance you'll be curious to see Eikichi and Ryuji's friendship by the end of GTO

Make sure you get a good scan though, it has some terrible scans.

The versions I got from baka was all that kind of overlay shit and mostly came in zips-within-zips i had to shift around before my tablet could read them.

I ripped from batoto and got a good 50+ chapters of those QUALITY scans, found out later some other group had done the entire thing well (can't remember the name though).

although long is a little of an understatement since while GTO is only 25 volumes, Fujisawa has technically been writing about Onizuka for well over 20 years
over the course of about 6 series spanning about 74 volumes.

Here's how it breaks down:

> Bad Company, 1996, 1 volume
> Great Teacher Onizuka, 1997–2002, 25 volumes
> GTO Shonan 14 Days, 2009-2011, 9 volumes
> GT-R - Great Transporter Ryuji, 2012, 1 volume
> GTO: Paradise Lost, 2014 – Ongoing 7 volumes (so far)

The original GTO is excellent. The later GTO series aren't really good though, they lack the same energy and humor.
