It truly was the best 1st episode of the season so far, it had adventure, likeable characters, great animation, good soundtrack and a simple set up for a hopefully simple show, my only big complaints were:

It goes without saying that this is indeed one of the dullest franchises in the history of anime franchises though.

Seriously each installment following the girl witch and her pals from School as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the cheery imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of animation, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Trigger vetoed the idea of Anno directing the series; they made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for their other works.The little witchseries might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. The writing is dreadful; the parade was terrible. As I watched, I noticed that every time a character was shocked or had a question, the author wrote instead that the character says NANDA?!

Triggers mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that they has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Little witch by the same Miyazaki .
