What are you working on?

I still throw it out there just in case.
>>
To the bookwalker script guy - here's a few reasons I could think of why they're banning you:

- Timing between page requests - this one is obvious, the requests shouldn't be too quick in succession, you should also try introducing some random delays to make it look like someone is flipping the pages
- Useragent and HTTP headers - also obvious, by default Python sends its own useragent with no other headers which makes it dead obvious a script is being used. Try to make requests look like a real browser, with cookies, referers and everything.
- Other requests - when you use a real browser, every time you open the reader you download bunch of shit like scripts, images and stylesheets, they could detect scripts by searching for requests that suspiciously don't download any of that and just go straight for the license request and images instead. In this case remember about HTTP headers as well.
>>

I have six chapters that need to be finished up for the rest of the series. My group can translate up to chapter 10, but after that scanlations are going to stop if we don't get a Japanese translator.

>stealing
Aren't you stealing from the mangaka?
>>
>>152002932
That's why you stop doing it if it gets licensed.
>>
>>152002932
Tis merely advertising the manga for when it eventually gets licensed. They should be happy that people work so hard on their behalf for nothing in return.
>>
>>152002991
People still scanalate the later chapter even if it's licenced + getting licensed in amurica =/= getting licensed in the word.
>>

Licensed in America = licensed in English. You want translations in the language of whatever third-world country you live in that can't get shipments from Amazon or Bookdepsitory, do them yourself.

I'm looking for RAWs for Kono Subarashii sekai ni bakueon wo. This is serialized in Comic Alive and I need the January and February issues but I can't find it anywhere.

A while ago a kind anon gave me a link where he was posting various magazines wich one of those was Comic Alive, but he deleted the link. I wonder if he's still here.

I scanned Vanilla Spider, only to learn that the guy has a Japanese-Korean-English script. So I said that he should find a TL-checker as well. So, maybe.

Otherwise I am still scanning stuff that no one cares about. I scanned a partial anthology of Mitsuhashi Otoya's Garo-era stuff. I have to scan Eko Eko Azarak v02 next, then maybe Harta or a Tani Hiroji anthoogy after.

I actually had to do research on Kawakami Otojirou the other day. There was a joke made using "oppekepe" and it turned into a half-hour long research session. It was interesting.

For a different manga by the same author, I had to look up a bunch of words in Okayama-ben and then try to explain the country-bumpkin-ness of it all, and then look up some comedian guy.

It's fun to read about but hell to explain.

Work harder.
Not sure what's your level at but at some point you just read through stuff as if you're reading anything else, so it's just a tiny bit of work to come up with a sentence that conveys that in another language.

It does help if you have native level in the language you're trying to translate, or you can get stuck with the original meaning but unable to get a proper sentence out of it (happens to me more than I'd like in JP -> EN).

For me that's about twice the time I need to read a chapter, which depending on the size I take about 10~15min, so that's 20~30min for a script on best case scenarios.

It's not good though if you're doing way too many chapters per day.

When did you realize that letterers and redrawers work much harder than translators?
>>
>>152037755
Until they got all wipe out by official digital release.
>>
>>152037916
When I started doing all the editing from scratch myself, and see my translator put out scripts in half an hour.
>>
>>152037916
>letterers
Who?
>>
>>152037916
It's like white-collar jobs vs blue-collar. The blue-collar workers will work much harder but there are plenty of them to fill the positions whereas white-collar jobs can only be filled by a smaller, limited amount of people who actually have the education and experience in the job.

Anyone can learn photoshop in a day.

A language takes you much longer to become proficient.
>>
>>152038022
>Anyone can learn photoshop in a day.

And that's why you get so many terrible looking cleans and one font typesetting? I'm not saying it takes as much time as time as a language, but it's not something you learn in a day.
>>
>>152037916
Who cares about redrawing? Just typeset over it.
>>
>>152038316
I first learned how to use PS when I translated something nobody wanted to do so I torrented it and got to work. 6 hours later, some judicious use of the cloning tool and I was done, and, even if I say so myself, it looked professional. In fact that very first redraw+typesetting job is probably the best I've ever done so far because after the first time, you get bored and start cutting corners in order to just release shit quickly.

There are so many decent step-by-step guides out there now in the year of the lord 2016 there's no thinking to be done, no real learning either. Whenever I didn't know what to do I just looked it up and copied. Back then I imagined someone actually had to figure all of it out in the first place and that may have taken a while, but still nowhere near the time it takes to learn a language.
>>
>>152038022
>Anyone can learn photoshop in a day.
Anyone can learn kana in a day.

But really, what you're implying is beyond stupid. Sure, translation has a minimum learning investment before it even becomes viable but it's pretty obvious to see that not all typesetters/redrawers are created equal and it's a role that requires a lot of skill, much like translation. In the scanlation scene, I more often see demand for competent typesetters and redrawers than translators nowadays. A single good translator can absolutely blaze through a series or do multiple series with little problem. But for editing, you have to deal with everything from scanning to redrawing and it takes so much more time. Sometimes, a single page can take hours to complete. There's also a huge variance of skill, with some scanlations being eye cancer and others even surpassing the quality of your average official release. To be honest, becoming proficient in editing takes years of experience. It is literally a comparable time investment as learning a language.
Someone who learns photoshop in a day is going to be like someone using Google translate. They may get some things right, but ultimately it's going to be shit.

And yes, now that I've taken another look at it since like 2 years ago, I see that the redraw is completely awful. Alright. But editing, typsetting, etc, it's perfectly learnable in a day to a degree where most readers won't even notice you're an absolute, total beginner.

Back in the day, I did some translations using google translate and dictionaries. It was later translated by someone who knew the language and surprisingly, my google translations got the gist of basically everything but one or two weird idioms. Essentially, this the same as the type of editing you're talking about.
>>
>>152038824
No, you're really grasping at straws here. Machine translators will get even the most basic of sentences completely wrong unless you're translating from two similar languages like English to German or some shit.

I've posted my example for all you anons to rip apart, so why don't you link to your machine translated one?
>>
>>152038379
Apparently, some poor souls redraw without being the typesetter themselves. I don't know why anyone would do that to themselves.
>>
>>152038929
>No, you're really grasping at straws here.
If your only defense is to call me a liar, then please don't even bother. You really think it's some sort of impossible task to figure out SOV and look up words with a dictionary in this day and age? There are tons of guides for Japanese with basic phrases. It's just subjects with conjugation.

Here's some of what I translated
こちら秋の島新島取材班です
This is the expedition team for the New Island of Autumn.
秋の島新島は三か月前海底火山の噴火により 突然出現した隆起島です
This island was formed 3 months ago after the eruption of a submarine volcano. This was a sudden and unexpected event.
今 火山の噴火は収まっているようですが島の隆起は続いているようです
It seems that the volcanic eruptions have ceased for now, but the island still seems to be rising out of the water.
表面は溶岩が固まり黒っぽくなっておりますが まだ ところどころ赤い線が見えます
Most of the lava on the surface has clumped together in black lumps, but you can still thin red lines intermittently
あの赤い色はまだ固まっていない溶岩でしょう
The intermittent red lines is lava that has yet to harden.
>>
>>152039035
redrawing is the fun part of scanlation. You're trying to copy the mangaka style by trying to think like him and then redraw some part. The worst part is the cleaning and cleaning the fukin bubble.
>>
>>152039192
>The worst part is the cleaning and cleaning the fukin bubble.
It takes like 2 seconds a bubble
>>
>>152039143
Sure that's what you translated. Give me a link to the release. You think I haven't done what you have for years on end while learning the language? There's literally no comparison to be made between photoshop and a fucking language. I made do in a day with one of them and I'll let you guess which.
>>
>>152039035

RIGHT?
>>
>>152039393
>Redrawing speed lines
This gives me night terrors.
>>
Is the hinamatsuri translator still here?
>>
>>152039421
Yeah, whenever something like that happens, I just go with what the majority of the untouched drawing is doing, even if it means I have to completely redo the other half of the original.

My main gripe with redrawing is that using the pen tool is a pain in the ass, and getting patterns right is almost always impossible because of a small 1 pc deformity somewhere.

When it's not something like that, it can be fun, specially stuff like freehand drawing with the brush tool to copy a messy drawing style.

So some simple lines and words were managed by google, hooray. You learn the language for the hard ones that come by, and they come with alarming regularity. I don't doubt there would be some crucial mistranslations every so often with a machine translator, and those are why you don't do that. Even my translations get shit on 24/7 by others and I guarantee you I'm better than google though I might not be so good overall.

Your arguing that translating is easier than learning how to edit with photoshop is just wrong mate.

The most natural option is to separate it into clauses or dramatic timing with words.

Or you could do >>152039944. Not really related but I personally knew a redrawer once that was suspicious that a south american group was stealing their releases without crediting them so he drew in his own background character in a page once. Sure enough, it popped up on the south american group's release as well.
