love and marriage
love and marriage
go together like a horse and carriage
>create a world of isolation because he feels he doesn't deserve love of companionship
>subconsciously creates a companion because he is weak and can't stand living/dying alone
>upon seeing that he basically just inserted Asuka, his main tormentor, a character who doesn't bullshit him with flowery poetic to feed his ego, he engages murder protocol
>such a pussy that just because he was shown a brief kindness through physical, he cancels murder.exe
>he is at this point God+Adam
>still doesn't have the balls to go through with his desires, because he still believes he's human, and has human falacy
>he's just as pathetic as he was before becoming God
>shown a brief kindness through physical
i think this shows more about Asuka then anything, the fact that she shows kindness to Shinji and then reverts back to her usual self is like the opposite of Shinji showing aggression towards Asuka by strangling her and then reverting to his usual self.
Well you also need to understand that the only reason she showed kindness was because she was an amalgamation of 3 or 4 characters, creating Eve. The outward appearance of Asuka, the warmth of rei, the love of his mother, as well as Misato. Asuka may be the predominant personality, but rei/misato/his mother are also in there. She's technically a separate character made from his desperation. He made it so best girl won - all of them
it is the real asuka
asuka is the entithesis of shinji
Asuka thinks everyone is wrong for doing harm to her
Shinki thinks everyone is right for doing harm to him
they complete each other
Try, try, try to separate them
It's an illusion
Try, try, try, and you will only come
To this conclusion
This scenes means so much, dude, it's literally the meaning of Eva, literally all of the series can be shrieked into this particular scene, it's powerful. It's Hegel's master-slave dilemma representation, it's an end to the struggle of two hedgehogs who were unable to connect yet wanted to, it may even be Asuka's strangle fetish (which is absolutely retarded) or Asuka as a combination of people (which is absolutely retarded too because AT field), it may be a representation of Sartre's meaning of life, it can be anything. For me it's an end to the most dramatic existential crisis and e greatest love story ever told.
This song is wonderful
Asuka is mad because Kaji left her
Shinji would rather live in that hell where he's in conflict with another human than go to a safe space where he never has to deal with anyone. He's accepting the human condition
While the Rebuilds have stablished their own canon, the official NGE manga of Sadamoto explains the very same story as the anime, but in a different way.
The fact you don't like it doesn't make it less canonical than the anime. Please, think it twice before making such a statement.
I honestly can't understand what kind of idiot would call this a "romantic scene".
Leaving aside the fact that Evangelion is not a love story, how could anyone possibly consider Asuka is "tenderly caressing" Shinji, as some nerds of EvaGeeks usually state? Please, look at her face; I think it's pretty far from being a love expression.
NGE is a tragic story, not romantic. Unless one has that in mind, it's common to misunderstand everything in the series, and end up believing characters "love" each other (they're 14 years old, by the way). Some people should stop reading rubbish asushin doujins and realize Evangelion is more complex than that.
I'm afraid you have mistaken me for someone else (maybe those KxS fujoshis of other threads). By no means have I said Kawoshin is canon. I'm not a shipper of any couple, since I don't believe Evangelion is about the love for others, but for oneself.
I've heard it explained as Asuka realizing her own faults in Shiinji. He rejects instrumentality, and to confirm that people are again separate from each other, he hurts Asuka to see her reaction. Asuka recognizes that she has constantly been doing the same to everyone around her. Even though she craved attention, she was a huge bitch to most everyone she interacted with.
I must say I agree with you.
I find it equally disgusting to read people making up things to make Evangelion look like a sweet romance between Asuka and Shinji, than those who are obsessed with Kaworu and his ephemeral appearance.
I would say trying to explain Evangelion through couple ships is a terrible mistake.
Visual character design aside, I don't think anyone can succesfully argue that Asuka is not a deeper character than Rei. This makes her better in my book, even if I initially preferred the design of Rei.
Rei was an unfortunate subject to a lot of lazy writing in the show. She felt rushed and sloppily put together.
Asuka on the other hand didn't feel like a character, she felt like a real person. As if she wasn't a member of a show, but a human of flesh. It was astounding how impactful some of her scenes were. A truly fantastic character.
She's my favorite after Kaworu.
ITT: People who have never experienced love try to explain it, or try to explain it away.
You guys are worse than the blind people and the elephant.
And so is his sexual attraction to men.
Eva isn't even hard to understand.
As long as you've talked to people in your life, you should be able to relate to it on some level.
It's truly the Anime for normalfags, though.
Bisexuality exists. But it doesn't really matter, whether Shiji's feelings for Kaworu were platonic or romantic is basically semantics, the impact it had on Shinji is the same either way.
>Rebuild isn't canon
Though Anno confirmed it was romantic and sexual.
He didn't kill anyone, though. Rei indirectly made them exist in a different way than before because he wanted to kill them but they're still technically alive. He actually brought everyone who had ever died back from the dead to live in the LCL sea.
God, that must have led to some awkward scenes when people started to rematerialize.
>We are the emperor of France
>No, we are the emperor of France
>No, we are the emperor of France
>I am citizen Robespierre
>Get him. Off with his head!
As I mainly see it, it's about Shinji and Asuka's struggle to connect, which we see throughout the series with them and other characters as well. Their relationship is the most complex one in the series, question of whether she loves him or not (I think the term "love" in this case is usually taken negatively by people, who look at it from one side). What's funny, you don't really need to definitely decide if she loves him as a woman loves a man (although it's stupid to assume this, they are barely teenagers, still children, confused and all), you need to concentrate on their inability to understand each other at least a bit. We see Asuka's attempts to approach him sexually, she tries to kiss him to see if there's any connection, if he wants to hold her and she's utterly disappointed, she takes it really bad. Her attempts to make him act like a man (like he did in ep. 10, remember her reaction) are failures. That's the struggle. And his attempts to approach her (ep. 22) are failures as well. Asuka aggressively protects her from others, Shinji does so passively.
That's the Beaty of the last scene. People who subconsciously wanted to understand each other and help themselves finally manage to do so. Even though the World is destroyed, there's still hope for happiness as long as you live. One of the main themes of the show is hope, hope that even people who can't stand each other will bring down their barriers and understand each other and work together to survive and they WILL survive and they WILL find happiness. This was represented in episode 7, which was accused of being a filler episode by people who don't get Eva at all. Remember the password for the Jet Alone? That's right.
Anno's a genius
Can dead people be brought back to life in the LCL soup? I mean since Asuka technically died, and yet she shows up in the end with bandages in her wounds, does that mean that Misato or all the other dead people can come back to life if their will to form was strong enough?
You shouldn't expect anything else from trash like EVA and japan. Seriously Eva is a garbage clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in waifu faggotry and NEUROSIS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.
However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The broken, angsty characters all trying their hardest to hide from their mental issues, the SYMBOLISM, peculiar, complex machinery, the whole Freudian faggotry and everything about the Evangelion world fuels their fantasies of being a patrician, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on guilt tripping, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underage retards eat this shit right the fuck up.
It's about a manchild who lives in a big robots fantasy world and refuse to grow up. Japan have a big problems with these people wand they try to get rid of the american democracy to start the extermination of the weaboos. You know the reason why /a/ hate Evangelion is because it told them how worthless pieces of shit they are. Evangelion should be the last anime you watch. If you still watch anime after that then shoot you in the head.
>Their relationship is the most complex one in the series
Is this a fucking joke? They only have interaction for like 5 episodes in the series.
Misato and Shinji's relationship is the one given the most focus, it's the most complex and important.
Results just came in. I regret to inform you it was legitimately too deep for you.
Shinji choked Asuka to see if she would accept him back even if he would end up hurting her
Shinji rejected the global orange juice because he believed that happiness can come through your acceptance of others even if harm may come in the future. It's how you work through these hardships that defines your happiness with your friends.
Therefore, by choking Asuka, Shinji is getting an immediate answer to whether Asuka could possibly accept him as a friend despite all odds. Asuka responds by caressing his cheek softly thereby affirming that she'll accept Shinji and telling herself that she's "disgusted" by her own actions, not Shinji's.
Basically, it's Shinji's question to the Hedgehog dilllema whereby two hedgehogs wishes to be friends but ends up hurting each other in the process of getting too close.
The orange goop that everyone gets sucked into is basically just everyone saying they'd rather live happily by becoming a singular entity than experiencing hardships from the interaction among other people.
/a/ doesn't have Eva though, in fact they love it and praise it as the greatest anime series ever made so everything you said with the exception of Japan's problem is complete bullshit.
Also learn how to speak before posting long comments like these
That interpretation is exactly what I defined as asushin garbage before. Again, please take a look at Asuka's expression when she "softly caresses" his face. If that face expresses acceptance or love to you, it means there's something wrong with your idea of love.
As for her last sentence, I'm not sure how you ended up considering she says it for her own faults. It's well-known that Miyamura Yuko thought that sentence when asked by Anno how she would react having in front of her someone who had masturbated to her comatose body.
Also, it's also logical to think Asuka said "Kimochi Warui" because she realizes Shinji is the same crybay as during the whole series, and thus, it would show again her extreme disappointment by Shinji's lack of courage and manliness, which is a recurrent idea throughout the whole series.
Better that than making up what happens there to fit it into your ship.
If you know better what Asuka's last sentence means than her own voice actress, then I'm glad for you, but that's just your imagination.
That may work for fandom doujins, but not for a serious analysis.
cause she sees her fragile self which she tries to hide desperately in shinji's actions making her angry about him but even more about her since she knows they're not different at all
truly hating him would mean truly hating herself
Shinji chokes asuka because he's literally the biggest fucking faggot in all of anime and after his mental breakdown he found it impossible to distinguish between what was reality and what wasn't, so he ended up choking asuka perhaps in an attempt to finish what he started in one of his mind-scenes but gave up because he's a massive faggot and can't make up his mind.
Asuka is confused if anything, and probably still hates his guts.
She did try to kill herself. In episode 24.
And she does sincerely hate herself.
You don't know shit about Asuka.
not eating and hiding isn't trying to kill yourself, she was just too depressed since she had just learned that the only person she truly admires was dead and she will never get acceptance by this person (kaiji)
it is easir to chase a dream than comfronting reality, but at that time her dream was finally gone
From my point of view, Asuka showed she could feel pain, and thus, she's alive. It's not Instrumentality anymore.
Of course, there are lots of interpretations, and you might have a different a different, and that's perfectly legit. But you might also agree with me that it's ridiculous to see the whole scene from a romantic point of view.
Not even Asuka figured out how to Asuka, anon.
So you're basically saying she understands him. Is there really such a big difference between acceptance and understanding?
No understanding or acceptance between them then? Are they still as incapable of forming connections with others as they were during the show?
Do what you must, the fujoshi have already won.
You fucking idiot, period blood doesn't work like that and we see a bandage on her wrist when she's unconscious.
She tried to kill herself and even said she has no more reason to live.
Just because Asuka touches his face? I'm sure it would take more than that to reach a true understanding between them, considering how much they have hurt each other before.
And of course, acceptance would be even more difficult to achieve.
Anyone who watched the show could successfully argue that Rei is a better written character than Asuka. Of the main characters, there are no truly poor characters sans Kaworu who isn't a very good character. So Asuka, Rei, Misato, Shinji, Gendo, Ritsuko and so on are all good, realistic characters in their own right.
But if we're to compare Rei and Asuka, there's some differences and completeness factors that make Rei a better character. First of all Asuka is somewhat of an amalgam of Anno's favorite characters, here for instance we have a scene from Nausicaa which is directly plagiarized in NGE'e ep 22, and it's particularly bad since it's the cornerstone of the character. It's all a copy.
Rei on the other hand has some more impressive work behind it, including an analysis into the mind of the schizophreniac, and due to the detachment from author and character, there's a more pure expression of character. If a writer becomes to obsessed with the character he or she writes, it often turns out like a fantasy with no point. Which brings us to the next point: Rei features a very solid character arc, that begins at episode 1 and ends with the beginning. Thematically we're shown how a person like Rei can come to understand her environment and peers, and ultimately improve upon herself and take action. It's a noble effort as far as a character goes.
Asuka on the other hand, lacks this sort of development, and remains more or less static as a character in order to exemplify failure and serve as a foil to Shinji. She makes no important part of the plot or it's setting, unlike Rei who is a cornerstone of it among the "elite" of Evangelion. She is the beginning and the end for mankind, and Rei's own arc of understanding herself is tied intrinsically to this.
yes, the gates of guf were opened. Every human who ever existed was put into the blackmoon/godrei. The interesting part is you never see how much time has passed between third impact and Shinji rejecting instrumentality, it could have been and hour or years. Its also pretty telling that out of 3 billion people shinji and Asuka are the only ones to come back at that point. Shinji had time to make that grave and looked like he was going insane because of the surroundings and lack of human interaction.
>The interesting part is you never see how much time has passed between third impact and Shinji rejecting instrumentality, it could have been and hour or years.
its probably not that long considering that the world he reformed into is still a flaming mass of bomb craters
No basis for that, I'm afraid. There's more originality in Rei's character than Asuka's, and that's why Rei was more popular and created her own archetype as well. This is written history.
Rei is unoriginal, her entire character is taken from Tomoe.
And Asuka has always been the most popular, she made tsunderes.
Making me laugh.
No, Asuka is nothing like that. Visiting the link brings me to a russian site, and this is in 2016 - you know Evangelion came out in 1995, right?
Here's one from around the time EVA was going on, in the 90's.
Tsunderes have been around for far longer than Asuka has been, and generally people credit 80's characters like Lum for the introduction.
>Mari being that high
Jesus fucking christ the rebuilds were a mistake
Keep the tears flowing Asuka fans. It's been at least ten years since I saw decent Asuka fans actually doing proper analysis instead of screaming like autists.
>Many of you are aware that I utilise ze/zir pronouns for the First Children
I TELL YOU BROTHER
just finished Eva 2.22
why does everyone hate the rebuilds again?
the CGI was bearable (but I'd prefer hand drawn)
and even the third impact was fine enough, am i about to be disappointed with 3.33?
The first two Rebuilds are different, but still good enough to make sure the third and the fourth is great. They're bombastic, cool, and all, they've got charm and recreates the fun feeling the original did in the early episodes, but just with enough drama and terror to make it special.
Then 3.33 happens, and Rebuild turns into absolute garbage. Blame Asuka fans and Kaworu fans. In fact, blame them for all the shitty spinoffs ever made since it's geared towards them.
Not just make his little 3rd Impact memorial, he could drag those planks to the shore and plant them over an afternoon. Shinji had time waiting for everyone he hoped to see again before that and was alone long enough to give them up for dead.
Asuka and Rei are ideologically opposed, and Evangelion uses this to great effect. Rei represents working with yourself and self acceptance, while Asuka represents escapism and self-denial.
They both live sad lives, deprived of much of the familial warmth a child needs, but they deal with it very differently. While Rei sees the truth for what it is, even if it so strongly belittles her own existence. She lives with it, even using it to her own advantage. It's exhausting on Rei psychologically, and as result she's almost dead in expression. She's sad.
Asuka is incapable of seeing the world for what it is, and instead relies on the lies and dreams fed to her by people who wish to control her. In order to alleviate her pain she resorts to escapism, using the EVA as a way to escape the real world. However this will never solve her problems, and because of this she is always taking her problems out on others. She is sad.
Both are tragic cases, but of the two only Rei is on the right track. The series then demonstrates how Asuka eventually crumbles and becomes a dead doll incapable of doing anything but being used and abused, even sexually as shown as in EoE. Rei on the other hand is met by rejection, setback and even death because of the path she's on, but despite every little setback, she grows stronger and wiser. Eventually, she is able to overturn her situation and thematically "defy" her bad luck in life: Gendo.
Choosing Asuka is choosing escapism, while choosing Rei is choosing real life and the hard truth.
I must say that analysis of yours is impeccable, showing you do know very well the in-depth personalities of EVA characters (unlike the majority of people here and on other forums).
This kind of analysis is what NGE fans really need to have good debates about the series, and not all that putrid ship/"best girl" garbage out there.
How can something so solid like that reverse? Because it doesn't.
Shinji had by himself, without Rei already approved the instrumentality's beginning. Before Rei made contact, the world was already pretty much destroyed, Japan was gone by the looks of it.
Rei overcame her problems, and then intercepted instrumentality and finally offered Shinji a choice. Does he want this or not? He didn't, and he was the victor of the day. As far as Asuka goes, we never know, there is only escapism in trying to figure out. Fan fiction and fanwank.
Everyone is able to come back, and in some scenes we see people floating up to a surface.
In life, Asuka never found her way. She was always helped by others, this also being part of the message. Someone who won't have the courage to accept the truth and themselves, will never be able to help themselves either. They will simply be burdens for everyone else.
Asuka was a burden for Shinji and Rei, who had to save her continuously and put up with her angry insults and attacks. They paid for Asuka's failures with blood, and Rei even was left alone in episode 23 because Asuka had become a useless puppet to be replaced by another pilot.
Asuka was a burden for Misato, who had to take care of her and ensure her safety.
Finally, Misato takes care of Asuka in EoE and sends her off to somewhere safe, and then Asuka is helped by the soul in EVA02. Despite all of that, Asuka loses the fight, and Shinji's instrumentality saved Asuka's life.
So without Shinji destroying the world, and Rei intercepting him to give him a choice, there would be no Asuka at the end. There would just be meatloaf inside an EVA.
Man, Rei is truly the best.
I mean, I grew up in a bilingual family whose second language uses a non-latin script (not Japanese, obviously), I'm just commenting on romanization choices. If someone could explain the reasoning behind it I would actually be interested
Draw your own conclusion. Whats sure is
>Adam/Eve or Rei/Lilith are together
>They are aliens or send by aliens and grant some kind of power
>Shinji gets this power
>People lose their "forcefield", which rips them apart or turns them into soup, whatever
>This means they actually become one single identity
>Shinji reverses this after all, because he now hopes to get asuka laid or some shit reason
> Toji's sister
I bet that she will be like Electra in Nadia, with either Shinji or Nemosato
Her brother probably died, its safe to assume that she hates the one responsible, either Shinji or Nemosato.
I'll fuk you up m8 rite in the boipussi
But Asuka doesn't like Shinji though, the Jap voice actress said it.
This is good, anyway. Asuka is single and available to be my waifu.
This, and if you're going to skip anything. Skip the rebuild movies, you're not missing out.
Watch the last two and EoE. From what I got out of it, is that the 25+26 were a result of hitting the brick wall of their budget and having to work with what they had left. Also, it was the outcome of Shinji accepting instrumentality in the end. EoE was more of the intended ending, with some changes here and there. I wouldn't disregard 25+26 because they include dialogue which wasn't totally covered in EoE that you would probably like to watch/hear.
most of us can generally agree that the Rebuilds can be totally skipped, but if you really like EVA, give it a shot. Anno still has to "close the book" with the rebuilds and thankfully his team is finally back to working on it.
There's the whole "Rebuilds are a continuation" theory also. Wouldn't be surprised if Anno does some cuhrazy stunt like that, but nonetheless, it's interesting to see the "what could have been," with the Rebuilds.
Rei is just so fucking amazing, an Angel in human form.
Don't get how people can actually like a bitch like Asuka.
The more frigid, the more to warm up.
Are you guys jealous yet that I have access to a brand new cover of Cruel Angel Thesis that none of you have?
it's okay, I'll keep posting this until you are jealous.
I wonder why there's such aversion for NGE manga. Although I was raised watching the original series and I do prefer them to the manga, I would honestly say Sadamoto has a much saner mind than Hideaki Anno, and his drawing style is superb.
Also, considering the story it tells it's the same as in the anime, I find it laughable to insult people just because they defend the manga is canon (which is a fact, no matter if you don't like it).
I guess that's what 4chan is nowadays: a garbage dump where the scum of otaku community gathers and rants against everything and everyone. How pathetic.
Does anybody has that picture of shinji fugging asuka with the final scene background, been trying to look for it
No. Give me a call when Anno decides to provide reparations for more than a decade of hating on Rei pointlessly and childlessly.
The manga is decent but starts spiraling down around three quarters in, or somewaht later. It had potential, but Sadamoto dropped the ball, took too long inbetween chapters, and eventually rushed the whole thing and wrote a terrible ending.
>I guess that's what 4chan is nowadays: a garbage dump where the scum of otaku community gathers and rants against everything and everyone. How pathetic.
That's more like evageeks.org, to be fair.
I just wasn't the biggest fan of the fact the manga changed Shinji's main issue from being "I feel betrayed by everyone" to "I wanna fight for my friends but am not sure I can"
Oh boy, another thread about the dullest franchise in the history of anime franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy Eva pilot and his pals from NERV as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of pyschoanalyis, all to make science unscientific, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Anno blew the entire budget; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody? Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for his depression. The Evangelion series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least waifus were good though
The writing is dreadful; the girls were terrible. As I watched, I noticed that every time the main character faced a problem, the writers wrote instead that the character "must not run away."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Anno's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Evangelion by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching Evangelion at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch "Evangelion" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
it's okay to be jealous if you want
not that anon, but it kinda appeared that she slowly became woke af, starting from when they lost Unit-00 (ep23). I think it was implying that once her soul became more whole (a fractured part of it was implied to be the soul of unit-00) she (3rd Rei clone) started becoming more aware. shit got weird when she intervened when Kaworu and Shinji were in Terminal Dogma. It looked like she figured it all out with her role and Gendo's true intentions with her. On top of that she sensed Shinji in distress and from here you can cue in the part when she tells Gendo that she's not his puppet and takes the adam embryo.
Japs only like Rei because they can't handle strong, independent womyn. Anno said so.
The Master can never be wrong.
Nah. She'll be like Ikolina, the nurse girl on the Nautilus.
Completely in the background and completely irrelevant to the proceedings of the story.
When Sakura's design popped up and saw that she was basically the nurse on board, I had to go back and check that her hat and bangs weren't exactly like Ikolina's. They weren't.
You know how it is, work sucks trying to save the world, the kid you're supposed to be taking care of is a worthless lug, your old boyfriend just shows up back in town, you start to drink too much, you fuck a penguin... these things happen.
But it would also explain why bird flu seems to crop up more in Asia.
Poetic, isn't it? Asuka fans are like Asuka also unable to think for themselves or see life as it is, they can only follow the lies and dreams of others.
Even if the series objectively shows that Rei is the strongest and most independent woman, Asuka fans are unable to pick up on this.
>First post explains how Asuka can't think for herself and is a doll following others peoples directions
>Second post says that bullshit because Anno likes Asuka more and speaks badly of those who don't, therefore one should like Asuka
>Third post points out how that's just like Asuka, being a puppet that follows somoene elses meaning
>Fourth post uses moot's opinion on which character he likes best, making the same mistake AGAIN
IT JUST KEEPS HAPPENING
>you will never be inside Rei while she is also inside you
Why do waifufags ruin everything? How do we stop this infestation and actually discuss the show?
Point out that they have tiny penises and their waifus will never love them.
And carry on talking about the show.
>discuss the show
I feel like it's even worse to do that though.
>implying anyone would ever ride your baloney pony
>blaming Anno for your worthlessness
There is just so much things to talk about.
For instance, the whole idea of someone running away from their fate, and how escaping responsibility only makes the same old problem worse to deal with.
Or how to connect with others in an environment that is already disconnected and dysfunctional. All Eva characters have these little lies they tell themselves and unhealthy mechanisms to cope with their job, and they all fail in the long run.
>the whole idea of someone running away from their fate, and how escaping responsibility only makes the same old problem worse to deal with.
>All Eva characters have these little lies they tell themselves and unhealthy mechanisms to cope with their job, and they all fail in the long run.
You've got to teach yourself the little lies so you can go on to believe the big lies. Like justice, mercy, compassion. That sort of thing.
>still having this argument after we were given canon
Part II (movies) Drama card D-88
Title: "Kimochi warui"
"Shinji renounced the world where all hearts had melted into one and accepted each other unconditionally. His desire... to live with 'others' -- other hearts that would sometimes reject him, even deny him. That is why the first thing he did after coming to his senses was to place his hands around Asuka's neck. To feel the existence of an 'other'. To confirm (make sure of) rejection and denial."
Also, it's possible that he just fucking hates asuka for making his pubescent fuckhead self feel tremendous pain and confusion
We already know that Shinji doesn't act "appropriately " to situations
An that's the biggest lie of them all. Everyone's going to avoid that lone depressed person in a public space. From the group's standpoint, that kind of person is on the same page as a hobo or a junkie.
Not perfect in tems of condition but perfect in our hearts
I kinda feel bad for Asuka, she will be remain forever alone with no bf.
I watched rebuild and nothing about their relationship seems romantic, Mari even teases Asuka about Shinji.
Wait until 4.0, Eva is now homosexual propaganda.
Well, that's if 4.0 ever comes out. Its like Half Life 3.
Besides, won't Japanese be very upset their waifu isn't pure?
Anno is already confirmed to be working on it, newfag.
>won't Japanese be very upset their waifu isn't pure?
Well, they hate the Asuka/Shinji pairing, so that only confirms Asuka will either end alone or with Mari.
They still consider yurishit pure.
>Well, they hate the Asuka/Shinji pairing
Then why did they put it in 2.0 and parts of it in 3.33?
>Anno is already confirmed to be working on it, newfag.
>he thinks its coming out
Did you watch it? Asuka was jealous Shinji was spending time with Rei and starting cooking Shinji a romantic dinner. Gets embarrassed when Misato said that she was already putting the moves on Shinji.
In 3.33, she's always thinking about Shinji. she has lovey dovey eyes at the thought of Shinji saving her. Mari says to "save the princess" Heck Asuka is mad at Shinji throughout 3.33 because he didn't save her.
For some reason they keep cramming in the Asushin shipping stuff.
4.0 is just going to be live action of Anno wanking inside a container on Antarctica. After he cums, he and the film crew are going to take a sleigh full of assorted eva merch and little Asukas outside, hook it up to an explosive device, set it to blow in an hour, and leave the premises in an icebreaker.
I watched it, and there's way more Shinji x Rei x Kaworu stuff than Asuka.
Asuka is just a side character at this point.
I feel bad for the Asuka shippers honestly, all their scenes from the Anime were deleted and taken out of Rebuild, as if they didn't even matter or were important.
Doesn't matter, its there. Why did they put it in? I thought you said they hate it?
They removed the hedgehogs dillemma as well, they removed alot from NGE.
Also, Shikinami is a new character.
>the hedgehogs dillemma
No they didn't, it's mentioned in 1.0.
They didn't remove that much when it came to other characters, but they removed and changed a lot of Asuka.
I genuinely feel bad for you guys, it must suck to have the character you loved completely replaced. Guess Soryu just didn't matter much to Anno in the end.
>frank sinatra also did fly me to the moon
Jesus fuck. Was Anno a westabo?
They're throwing way more bones to Rei and Kaworu shippers though.
The only thing that mattered to Anno in the end is hard cash. He has no problem turning Eva into a franchise and having his staff churn out a new movie or series every 2 years.
Oh, because they love Asuka so much and hate Shinji? So they want Asuka to be single for "fantasy" reasons?
Asuka's hedgehogs dilemma and her inability to talk to people about her feelins, her desire for love and affection. Its gone.
Anno said he wanted EVA to expand the brand and get as big and vast as Gundam.
He's willing to jew it out.
>every 2 years
He has a huge and obvious problem with it, he doesn't want to work on it himself but doesn't want to give up control. Also his staff have started complaining about arthritis.
The only time Shinji has ever canonically ejaculated, he was staring at Asuka's naked chest right next to her. If he was displaced in space by a meter or two, he'd have impregnated Asuka.
Shinji x Asuka is all but confirmed.
>Yui asks Shinji "What is it you wish for?"
>Picture of Asuka
Reifags undeniably BTFO
To Asukafags, she might as well just be a pair of tits. That's all they care about when it comes to her.
Let me start by saying that Ayanami Rei isn’t even really a person. She’s a monstrosity made out Yui Ikari’s DNA. The connection between her and Shinji Ikari comes from Shinji being interested to her smell because it reminds him of his mother and the fact that his father is giving her positive attention instead of him. Her personality type in the original anime was a response to the love of typical emotionless and submissive anime girls, and why something like that wouldn’t work in real life. Both the manga and the movie versions replaced that with Shinji straight-up warming her up and making her more human than either her, her in-show clones, or the thousands of direct copies of her in other popular anime.
Rei is by far one of the worst girls in the show, maybe even just in anime altogether, because that was the point of the character. She’s the choice of people who want to escape from human interaction and want a pet to mold however they see fit. Which is why she’s great for a spineless loser like Shinji.
Because she's just a fuck whore to him. Pump and dump, nothing else. She even calls him out on it.
Yeah, because it was a scary and horrifying sight.
He still didn't give a shit when she was dying.
He even heard her last blood-curling screams and he still did nothing. He didn't even show any facial expression.
There wasn't much he would have been able to do anyway. His Eva was stuck in bakelite and the control room wasn't really in any position to get it going. He was stuck until the Eva freed itself.
It doesn't matter.
The point is he heard Asuka's last screams. Maya told him Asuka was dying, that she was dead. Shinji heard her screams and crying.
And yet his face is completely emotionless, he doesn't show any shock or sadness, or even regret.
He absolutely doesn't care at all, he even starts thinking about his mother instead.
You can't sugarcoat this or pretend it didn't happen.
Shinji cried over Kaworu's death, and cried over Misato's death just minutes before.
But he didn't give a single shit when he heard Asuka screaming and dying over the intercom.
You can't ignore this.
Shinji is literally a little shit. I've never hated any MC more than I hate Shinji.
>It's to hard, I can't do it
>Okay I'll do it
>Oh sorry, it's hard again and I quit
>Nevermind I'll do it again
>Lemme just sit here uselessly while people die trying to save me
>Okay I'll do something
>I hate myself so sorry not sorry but everyone turns to jelly now lol
Now imagine your parents setting up a fake lecture in order to put you in your place. Imagine that everyone you know was watching, and that you had to wear a heart monitor and a bodysuit for the duration of the whole thing.
Why was the manga ending so fucking terrible?
>Dude lets have EoE but change it so Shinji doesn't learn anything and all character development goes down the shitter because everyone gets sudden magic amnesia
The only good thing about the manga ending is that Reifags get cucked (again)
Lol plebs, the ending is a masterpiece, and Evangelion IS a love story, on multiple different fronts. The characters are also trying to love one another while also not getting hurt.
Kaji x Misato is synonymous with Shinji x Asuka, albiet as adults instead of children. They share deep seated insecurities, but outwardly they deal with them differently, and those puzzle pieces don't match all the time.
Shinji's low self esteem stopped him from questioning 'why does she really want to kiss me'. Asuka's low self esteem prevents her from understanding why he couldn't hold her. If either of them had made a move, it would have likely ended with a sex scene and corresponding romance. Why would Asuka even be mad at Shinji for not holding her (a further projection of Kaji's rejection) if she didn't care about him? Research attachment disorders and you'll find that all the characters reject those who love them out of fear of rejection. Its the same reason Misato rejects Kaji even when she loves him.
To say it isn't a love story, is buttdevastatingly simple. The ending, where Asuka is being choked, happens for this reason. Shinji comes back from the LCL, and upon seeing Asuka back first, it hits him that they are exactly the same (why they both returned), and he is angry at her, for 'failing' him, for not 'helping' him love himself. When Asuka raises her hand to touch his face, like Lilith and his mother both did, he realizes that the love that exists within them also exists within Asuka, and all women to a degree. Overcome with emotion, he cries as the walls surrounding his emotions come tumbling down. In the final scene, Asuka also realizes this, and after they FINALLY make a meaningful connection, she still can't help but to be her defensive self, which is why she says she feels disgusting. The last line is intentionally ambiguous, so we question whether she's talking about herself, Shinji, what he's doing, what she's doing, or all of it combined.
D'awww this makes me feel like reading erotic fanfic of NGE again.
To clarify, ASUKA IS THE STRONGEST CHARACTERS IN THE SERIES BECAUSE INSTEAD OF CONTINUING THE CYCLE OF PAIN AT THE END OF INSTRUEMENTALITY SHE COMMITS AN ACT OF KINDNESS SO SIMPLE AND SO GREAT THAT IT CAUSES SHINJI TO COMPLETELY BREAK DOWN.
Cuntless anon in charge of damage control.
This is just bigotry and hatred coming from you. See >>152023582
Try judging a person on their own merits before you draw the "they aren't us" card. Basically Rei is a stronger, smarter and better person than Asuka ever was or could become.
Rei kicked ass, Asuka licked ass. Reminder that Asuka tried to commit suicide, and was a puppet to NERV while Rei broke NERV.
Who should I trust, your words or your trips?
At least Asuka's room isn't full of rotten bandages and bags of trash.
>At least Asuka's room isn't full of rotten bandages and bags of trash.
Unless you count Asuka herself.
Says the assmad Asukafag who can only spread hate and bigotry because Rei is objectively better.
>hate and bigotry
Go back to Tumblr and then kill yourself for having shit-taste
Asuka fans sre perpetually butthurt about Asuka being a weak failure in NGE that was used to exemplify the worst about otaku. In one scene, Asuka is even treated as a mindless and lifeless sex toy for introverted otaku to get off to.
>tfw magazines all had wrong information about the Eva lore
>tfw arguing with other fans face-to-face
>tfw the internet and evageeks killed all the fun in discussing Eva
y'all kids don't know what Evangelion is like if you weren't into it in the 90s.
We should work on a secret handshake or some other way to recognize each-other in public. What do you think it should be?
Asuka is canonicaly a lesbian and she's in love with Hikari
It's true, she blushed at her.
And we all know what blushing means in Eva. True love.
The end is clear, SEELE wanted the humans to reach their next evolutionary stage by turning them into an angel by absorbing the EVA 01, but Gendo just wanted to do this to free the soul of Yui and deposit it in Rei, and at the last moment to manipulate Shinji to undo the unification, SEELE did not want that and wanted the unification to be permanent. The rest of the scenes of the final chapter of the anime happen in Shinji within the EVA during the unification of souls (and this is not the end of humanity, but only absorbs some regions of Japan, since the EVA absorbs what Shinji considers his "world"). Shinji realizes that he can live without them, that he can be himself and he undoes the unification only by releasing Asuka because he is not the only one to be a part of them. Is in love with her and accepts her sexuality. The end of the anime where everyone applauds implies this, since the rest of the world is happy that Shinji is accepted as it is and that sex is an important part of life and purpose.
Shinji accepts that she's a lesbian
In the end, nobody wins except for Shinji himself. That and Yui.
Evangelion is primarily a story about learning to love yourself, first and foremost.
The only character that comes closest to winning the Shinjibowl from a romantic standpoint is Kaworu.
His face was in his knees, stop pulling bullshit out of your ass. He's also shuttering the whole time he's being informed of it.
Also, when Misato is informed that Asuka has control of the Eva, Misato says her name out loud in a relieved way, and Shinji moves when he hears her name.
Although this could either be out of relief for himself, or maybe movement in a "oh fuck she's alive" sort of way. Although I think it leans in favor of the former.
The baby is mad.
Anyway, staying on topic, he could also be shuddering* due to the frustration of not being able to get to his Eva. But the reaction he gave after seeing the mangled 02 seems to imply that he was upset about not being able to help Asuka.
Also pic related, stop being a retard whenever you see fit. (Yeah I got the spelling wrong, but even a monkey could figure out what I meant)
Anon, Go watch End of Eva and then skip to 40:30. You can clearly see Shinji is shuddering.
At that point he had gone through so much shit that he didn't care about anyone but himself.
Or rather, Shinji doesn't care about important people dying 'in the moment' because it's likely a mix of self-protection and shock he's formed after all of the shit he's gone through.
He does the same with Misato, he's pretty cold with her even after she gives him the kiss while she's dying. He starts crying after the elevator shuts on him, when Misato is away from his face.
Same with Asuka. Shinji doesn't scream his lungs out in abject horror until he sees the result of mass production evas for himself.
Even does the same thing with Kaworu - is a fairly cold and angry asshole as he's getting ready to kill him with his own hands - but is completely devastated to the point of largely giving up on life shortly after.
It's a defense mechanism.
ITT: Rei versus Asuka waifu wars. Both of those kids are fucked up, and you're a bunch of creepy fuckers for doting over 14 year old anime characters.
Pic related, a considerably superior waifu, she is still fucked up but actually functions as a reasonably good human being.
Here, I went out of my way to make this just for you. It's nice to see so many (you)'s in such a short period of time
If you're not blind then look at
>But it's Shikinami
Why are Asukafags so retarded?
I didn't name the image, It was called that when I saved it.
Squirming in happiness that worst girl is dying
damn you got me, I'm actually a Misato fag calling out some retard that doesn't get what shuddering is
Friendly reminder that ALL Reifags need to be lined up against the wall and shot
Nah, only Asukafags are that brainless and stupid. So you're a lying dumb Asukaposter.
Why is Asuka so ugly bros?
She looks like a man-frog hybrid in this image
