Why don't we get more art house anime like Flip Flappers?
The other thread just archived, which is a good thing. Let go.
But it's hard to let go, anon.
Because dumbdumbs and autists can't stand being kept in the dark about shit that's either irrelevant or not immediately necessary to convey. The Jap viewers hated it at first because of this.
They needed at least one correction.
Sakuga/visual direction guy here. This is the ideal order of watching Flip Flappers: episode 1, 2nd half of episode 2, episode 3, episode 5, episode 6, the rest of animation highlights on the booru, the background shots on twitter.
It was a truly thought-provoking anime.
Her ring is on the wrong leg for entire cut.
So that you would appreciate them more when they come out.
Planet reality, pic related.
Though Flip Flappers did well considering it's an original with barely any marketing and 3Hz was completely paid and wasn't relying on the BDs anyway.
And bat loli.
I didn't even like the OP.
Watch Sorameso instead. Very few people watched it when it aired, but it was Studio 3hz's first show and you could already see how this studio will become one of the greats.
It wasn't "art house", it was a silly monster-of-the-week equivalent show and had an art style that was like a mix between Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou Ii Desukara and Stella no Mahou, two by-the-numbers shows from last season that got nowhere near the cult following this shit did. Stop putting FliFlap on a pedestal, it was filled with as many tropes and cliches as any other series, nothing was art house about it.
FLIP FLAP FLIP FLAP

FLIP FLAP FLIP FLAP
Is the commentary included in the rips? I definitely can't afford to buy every single BD (before people rag on me, I pre-ordered the OST and might buy the Yayaka episodes), I'd be down for translating some of the key parts of the commentary.
The commentary is on the BDMV currently on nyaa.
Yes, and pic related is how friends usually look at one another.
Not until someone finds a birth certificate.
Being a lesbian genetic experiment has its perks.
Oh yeah, that stage was over as soon as ep 13 ended.
You hate it because it's true. Once Cocona goes through school and gets a job she'll find a handsome man to marry just like her mother did, and Papika will be watching from the sideline.
Papika may be handsome, but she's not a man.
>just like her mother did
Oh yeah, that worked out so well.
You just know Papikana was rocking Mimi's world on the side. Mimi was just one of those damaged lesbos that still goes back to dick now and again and she got what she deserved for it.
Kossori socchi o nozoitara,
socchi mo kocchi o nozoiteta.
Hitomi no oku ochiteiku,
koko wa doko nanoka naa?
Sotto te o tsunaidara,
Onnaji you ni kanjiteiru to,
naze ka wakarunda...
Nothing wrong would have happened if they didn't fuck up Salt's father DPI.
Also Cocona wouldn't exist if Mimi didn't go for the D.
Its likely Salt's dad had an experience more like Iro's. He didn't choose to switch with himself, Papika and Mimi chose for him.
Either way, it was dumb for Salt to blame his friend's for what happened. His dad is the one who took the risk.
How would you describe this anime to the uninitiated?
It's literally what Miyazaki would make, if he were born in the 70's or later.
In what fucking world do you figure?
It's hard to write well if you don't have a talent for it because the more shit you write, the harder it becomes to tell the difference. You can't really see "improvement" in writing the way you can with drawing.
The thing is that writing the plot for an animation and writing an actual story are two entirely different creatures. Yes, there's a level of skill needed to craft natural dialogue, but that is something that you just need to go outside to understand.
The places where a writer's talent show are places that are handled by the animators themselves, and it's probably harder to tell if your audience is going to like one way of animating something over another. "Do I want these crystals to explode out of the ground, grow naturally layer by layer? Should I scrap the idea altogether for something that'll be closer to the effect I want?"
Now, if your complaint is about FliFla's plot, keep in mind that this is just on the above average end of anime writing....and the audience still had trouble following.
As much as I loved almost all of the series, the ending really let me down. It felt sloppy, like they were just making things up on the fly in order to fill time. Mimi went through a bunch of transformations with no real point. Nyunyu was almost irrelevant to the end. Nothing felt like it held any consequences anymore.
It almost seems worse for such a promising story to fall apart at the end than for it to have been rubbish all along.
What was her point?
Its rare, but I am sure there are more.
Thinking back when looking at Pure Illusion taking over their "real life" world, it make me think of Paprika so much.
And its good, but same time if Anons want Season 2 of it, I don't think it will work. The ending clearly gave a comfy finale with a bow tie to its title.
And same time, I want to know more about Paprka(na)'s real story before being scouted to the organization and become Mimi's "partner". Or more of Nyunyu. (Nyunyu makes a good buddy for Buu-chan.)
normally I hate characters that do nothing but they were trying to show that yayaka was easily replaced by the people she was loyal to, if they just said she was fired it wouldnt have the same affect as showing her replacement doing her job better
I saw what page we were on, anon.
I know what you did.
I'll watch it sink again.
See you in 4 more pages, friend.
>He drew around 250 cuts of rough key animation in just a single week. For the record, your average 20 minutes long TV anime episode has around 300 cuts. I suppose this episode had a bit more, but that doesn’t change the fact that Oshiyama drew roughs for the vast majority of the episode. It was revealed at a talk event with industry giants such as Mitsuo Iso (who was personally very displeased with Flip Flappers, but enough of a legend that we refer to our animation awards as The Isos), Osamu Kobayashi, Masaaki Yuasa and Takashi Mukouda. The reason why Oshiyama did such a massive amount of work is simple: with only around two weeks to finish the episode, hiring key animators – including artists who would be be completely new to the series – and then having to correct their work would be more time consuming. He said: “If I do it alone, it’ll be faster“.
>animated the whole goddamn episode himself
Holy fuck the absolute madman.
Why even hire animators when your director is a one-man gainax?
You're a funny flip anon i like you, that's why i'm going to flap you last.
Did this show have a good ending or a so-so ending? So many anime go hard on the supposed symbolism but never follow up.
Even as a person who actually likes some of Triple-Q's stuff this is just shit. I think the song is just too calm and slow for this kind of thing to work with it.
At least it wasn't another "Triple-Q still thinks fucking Gangnam Style is funny" episode
Watch it and find out
The actual ending is very satisfying and stays true to the spirit and heart of the show.
Some people found the buildup to the ending to be sloppy though, and some people are just unhappy that the show actually turned out to have a plot.
I think that a lot of anons have massive hard-ons for bittersweet endings and were disappointed that the show went the full good end route like YuYuYu did.
Is this another Madoka but with lesbians anime?
>what I expected
>what I got
>He doesn't know about the lesbians.
Dimension W first volume sold 1356. Flip Flap will probably beat that. Sora no Method sold more, but it had an event ticket with Minase Inori, the latter volumes didn't sell as well.
Taking all variables into consideration with it being an original work with little to no big names and 0 advertising i'd say 1-2k sales is probably more than they would be expecting. It'd only really be flopping when compared to shows that already expecting big sales.
JUST RELEASE THE FUCKIN SOUNDTRACK ALREADY
Don't you think Salt had already realized that Cocona is his daughter in episode 1?
Perhaps they didn't even notice?
The story was never good, the crazy adventuring was.
Realize that the villain was an evil alternate personality of MC mother who suddenly vanished into PI because of reasons. This whole backstory thing is completely wonky, the way they brought this villain in is wonky, they way it was resolved was wonky. Characters were mostly background noise or devices, or Papika muh friendship, Cocona muh insecurity and Yayaka muh jealousy/anger.
The chara designer probably made many designs, director probably liked this one a lot and decided to put it into the show even if it brought nothing of value to the plot. That should sum up the process of Flip Flappers production as a whole.
Plot hole. Likely the writers didn't think nor care about it. Why did Mimi magically vanish after getting to PI? Why did Papika's age kept changing?
Official answer? PI magic, anything goes.
Real answer? They didn't care that it would make any sense as long as they could move things in the direction they wanted.
She was hardly considered a menace.
And then they just had nothing to stop Mimi.
Congratulations! The opinion you posted has earned you a free (you). What are your plans now that you have been granted such a sought-after prize?
Ignore the retards saying "plot holes" and "shitty writing". Can't expect them to connect the clues she show actually gave us.
The actual answer is that the dicktree prison was inside an unstable part of Pure Illusion, which is why Papika's age was constantly changing. Cocona only ever saw that prison in her dreams as we see it in one of the episodes in which she meets Mimi on the boat again. Cocona never mentioned her dreams with the boat, and really how often do you remember your dreams? Given also the PI memory fuckery, it could just make it easier to forget. Cocona was already outside of PI living a "normal" life while Papika was imprisoned.
I liked the flashback and the sense of havoc throughout the episode.
BD fixes for ep 1 are literally only credit fixes.
Oh, and this ED loop is changed to be consistent with the version in later episodes.
>Inverting Toto and Yuyu
That's really a game changer.
Might have noticed before it was too late to make corrections. There's probably a 1 month+ time period between final corrections and actual shipment where you can't make any changes or else your shit won't get sent to the BD pressing plants in Taiwan or China on time.
BD fixes for ep 2, frame by frame analysis
>Same OP credit fix 欄 -> 蘭
>Same re-rendered ED credits
>Lip sync edit of Yayaka nanda omae
>Minor frame editing of Papika grabbing Uex
That's all, folks.
You put the hard work in, so we can wear the Papika grin.
Official daki confirmed?
(Source: dlu-rays page on official website)
>entire episode about Cocona accepting that she has to love every side of Papika, not just the one she's familiar with
>that bed scene with succubus Papika
>"let's forget everything and do something fun"
>"do you love me?"
>"as a friend, right?"
>"why would you ask that?"
Flip Flappers needs a reboot but without plot and removing the fanservice
>Sterilize art because I'm too insecure about what people think about me observing a caricature of a 14 year-old in a swimsuit.
How about you get the fuck over it?
>implying LWA is going to be AOTY 2017
You're in for a disappointment my friend. The second OVA was already dog shit tailored for mainstream western taste, and now they have to pad a whole cour.
>Hi. I'm Papika, PhD in 2nd wave feminist theory, and I'm here to tell you why glue-gushing gonorrhea geometry is not necessary for sexual satisfaction.
>First, observe the way my lovely assistant (that's you, Cocona) wraps her thighs around my head. Many skeptics on the Christian right have made dubious allegations about whether or not this is natural. I ask you, gentlemen, that if this is not natural, how can you explain the snug way in which these divine pillows hug my face like a pair of sapho-erotic earmuffs?...oh! Smells like lavender today....Cocona would like that part struck from the record.
>Secondly, we know from past, well documented experiments that Coconas and Cocona prototypes do not respond well to phallic contact. The Cocona Mk Mimi was so dissatisfied with Salt- I mean...the subject's inadequate penis, she almost blew up everything and tried to consume her daughter with the gaping, blood belching maw of eldritch horror that he had left behind.
>Now, I know what you are all thinking. "But we need warty hotdogs to manufacture more Coconas! How can you deprive the world of such majestic beauty?" While it may be true with our current technology, Cocona and I have been searching her fridge and dresser drawer extensively for a substitute. We expect to make a breakthrough some time in the next year, though further trial runs may be needed to confirm our findings.
>Finally, I feel the need to address the question that PR has received more than any other. "Alright, Papika, I get that Cocona has a life-threatening allergy to weenies, but surely that doesn't mean she needs 'your' lesbo-mutant ham wallet, right? Why can't she be with an ugly blonde slut with no curves?"
>We here at Papika industries take your concerns very seriously, and we appreciate your letters and the return addresses on them. Thank you and goodnight.
>She said she wanted to be his #1.
>She never said that he was her #1. That's obviously me.
>You'll take this PhD and computer from me when either heterosexuality is dead or I am.
Flip Flappers is still liked, what you're witnessing now is the sad remnants and shitposting.
Your PhD won't be of much use when you get exposed as the murderer you are soon.
I can only imagine Re:Zero fags or other fanboys are still salty about losing that totally official poll and added to the shitposting here. There are even people trying to piss anons in other threads off by comparing their currently airing shows to Flip Flappers.
Papika, what are you doing on the computer?
We do once in a while, but they always flop.
>Oh, you silly slutbag. If I were capable of murder, you would've died by now.
>Looking to see if you saved those nudes of Salt.
Anything that enjoyed some genuine enthusiasm and bit of popularity on /a/ will get severe backlash from the vocal ones who hated it but couldn't get their voice heard back then.
Don't be like that anon, it was fairly hard to follow. If it wasn't for the timeline, I wouldn't have been able to understand it well.
Plus, it maintained the shitposting at minimal levels thanks to that.
She's always been, maybe your taste has just improved.
So what doe people mean when they say the show didn't make use of the symbolism of the first eps in the end? What kind of symbolism are they refering to that didn't relate to the core films.
>Maybe Papika Deaging
I think you are falling for a ruse here.
It's clearly two people facing each other.
i found an anon-card-tier cute drawing
This card was drawn by Oshiyama for an overseas anime convention or something.
Was this book by Hidaka Toshitaka the inspiration for FlipFlappers? It even mentions Uexküll
Yes, he was mentioned in Oshiyama's interview.
This is based on something the seiyuu said during today's event. Like, Papika and Cocona wore wedding dresses at the end of episode 12, but Yayaka would wear a suit because it's cooler that way.
Only things that are attributed to big names sell like Ikuhara or Yuasa. And that's typically because they did more tame things in the past that led them to gain cult followings.
My husband (female) Yayaka is so cute.
She's just being a good winner, tough I've seen it's a commom ocurrence for the main VA to like the sidegirl more, Yuuna's VA from Yuuki Yuuna has Karin as her favorite character
It doesn't matter how as long as Yayaka gets to the Cocopussy.
Could you guys please stop shitting up LWA threads? Thanks.
Is it me, or initial henshin-Cocona design is extremely lewd?
it is the only way Yayakass will get some Cockona
Me too. Started watching this season and I all I can think about is that Chiya from UM is this season's Papika and Vampire-chan from demi is this season's best girl (also blond). I think Flip Flappers broke me very badly.
But we have Futanon and Mexicanon in the west.
I'm not too pumped for this season either.
LWA will probably be nice but the threads are already beyond salvation.
The worst is that shitposters over there are trying to use FliFla to derail the threads.
Here's a bitter redpill: Shows like FF and Kyousou Giga wouldn't sell even if they had well-directed endings
I never got the impression that Yayaka "loved" Cocona that way, not even in the end.
It seemed like she just wanted to be her friend, to stay next to her together.
But not in a romantic or sexual way, it wasn't a fascination with Cocona either.
Just genuine friendship.
Was I alone?
