I don't think so.

Anime, much like any other non-digital medium, has trouble competing with media that are defined by technological novelty and absolute pandering.

They should embrace it. Look at Prisma Illya alone as a recent example.

There are more and more shows every season, but not more and more otaku. They often save their money over a bad season so they can afford to pay for shows that they really like.

The number of fujoshi shows are still much lower than the number of shows with cute girls, so fujoshi shows have a better chance of having excellent sales.
