Of course the character design goods are doing well though, if there's one thing Tales still kind of manages to nail from a things that will get otakus attention perspective it's that. The event DVD's are also still fairly popular from my understanding.

From a game perspective tales has it's problems though as it's hamstrung between trying to pander to it's otaku/fujo base in Japan that wouldn't even give a shit if it was a JRPG with stats and mechanics or just some adventure game visual novel skit thing like the cutscenes or not and people outside of that circle that actually do give a damn if things like the gameplay, camera and various other systems are lackluster or not.

By that point in time they stores already had their stock. The fact that they sold through said stock, shows that the store managers never expected it to sell that much to begin with. Let me clear this up because you seem to have mixed up some of what I said. Persona 5 and FFXV shouldn't have as much of a bearing on another game's sales as you seem to think they do, there may be some overlap of fans for both series but not everyone who bought Tales is going for those games. By your example you can say FFXV had low sales as well because it came out after Persona 5 or even Pokemon so people wasted there money on those instead (when in reality not to many people in Japan own a PS4 and nips were cautious with the game since FFXIII hit bargain bins pretty quickly after launch). Timing wasn't the issue. Most Tales game sales are front loaded so the entire stock is sold in the first two or so weeks. Berseria had a good first week but the numbers were still extremely low coming off Zestiria the year before. Your grossly overestimating how much the following weeks sold, it was basically cleaning up the excess stock(which is what I meant by good word of mouth), if store managers were that impressed they would have ordered more copies but they didn't have to do that since demand wasn't that high, people were just buying up what was left. You have to look at it as a whole, I wasn't just talking about first week sales. I think I'll leave it at that though since this is becoming more of a /v/ conversation when people should be excited for the episode.

Baba and Bandai Namco fucked up the good willed on the reception of Berseria because of how shitty they handled their PR with Zestiria. Not communicating to fans in regards to the game-play issues even though they posted it on their official bulletin board for the series. Along, with the Zabida dlc issue which some fans has issued with because of a costume had him wearing Dezel hat despite the fact the dlc has him not doing that and them not fixing that.

Also the Alisha dlc issue and Baba responses towards that. Zestiria was literally everything gone wrong in towards treating your fan-base.

Well I see you're one of those "story" players. I enjoy the games for the gameplay and couldn't give a fuck what they do with the story and characters so long as it doesn't go the Graces route.

The combat is far more refined and thus more fun to play to me. Bosses don't iron stance out of every combo after 10 hits. The weakness system plays into comboing and isn't stupidly overcomplicated like Graces. All the characters have some new artes and tweaks to help bolster them to try to keep up with Ludger, and while they're not as strong as him, they're still a blast to play as. And Xillia 2 has Gaius. Immediate win over Xillia. He's one of the most fun characters to play as in all of Tales.

I think Namco had already approved a lot of cross-promotional material budgeted and approved before the game's release (and the subsequent wave of malevolence it unleashed)

Zesty had an ova introducing Sorey, Mikleo and Alisha with praying her way into Heaven/Shangri-La to recruit him as marketing waaay before this series ever came out. I guess the series' main goal was to try to market Berseria, and maybe smooth down 2ch's ruffled feathers. (which failed, the fujoshi didn't get their Sorey/Mikleo pandering and Alisha became the new Rose while their fanbases continue to toss shit at each other)
