I honestly thing One Piece was originally gonna be something lame, like "the journey itself," your nakama, or even nothing, but Oda dragged it for too long, and now his backs are against the wall and he had no choice but to drag it even further wasting time hoping one day he might've got hit by a truck or get a heart attack and One Piece will always be remembered as a tragically incomplete masterpiece like the Simarilion, rather than a great great manga with downer ending.

Practically people have guessed every permutation of what One Piece could be, and it is literally impossible for Oda to exceed our expectation
