>Yuri on Ice - 50k
Stephane Lamibel here with breaking news. Apparently Orion hecked the heck up and release incorrect numbers stating YOI had sold 35K BDs and DVDs. We have just gotten new reports saying Yuri!!! On Ice sold 50K, beating out such classics as K-ON.
Now back to you, Victor, you salope.
Fujos won what exactly?
If more shows comes out for them so be it. Just hope they don't start flooding the market with carbon copy shows like they have been doing with their male audience for a long time and that they are diverse.
>An amazingly animated show with a brilliant and captivating story will never EVER outsell faggots fucking each other on skates nor idol garbage
The better question is what is wrong with the world.
oh yeah this show definitely isn't gay as fuck, all these fujo are just hanging onto pure, straight, not homosexual friendship between figure skaters
>FliFla will sell 8-9k in total
Just think about it.
>implying there is anything wrong with a series with passionate staff doing something different selling well
Have some fucking perspective, it's not bad because it's gay. The industry would be better off if more series had the love and research poured into it that YOI did, and if there was an increase in adult characters in professional contexts instead of more boring highschoolers. It's far better that something like this sells than more idolshit.
I can't blame them on not buying a lot of these shallows shows that been releasing over the years. If you seen one of them you pretty much seen them all because that's how copy and pasted these shows are. Might as well save your money when you can watch an old show that has all these elements you see in these current shows.
And pic related, the BD sales updated to 35k.
And the DVD sales updated to 15k.
Fuck off with this research meme already.
You're literally praising them for the work they were fucking supposed to do.
>OMG they depicted the real life ice skating in an ice skating anime!! So much passion!!
You might as well go praise janitor because he cleaned toilets
I never said Yuri wasn't well made. Anyway, you and me both know a show of similar quality without skating faggots wouldn't sell anywhere close. The industry not surprisingly is also aware of this fact.
Hetfags can burn in hell.
We're in the golden age, assholes
It seems a little late to bother complaining about that, we all know that anime is a niche product that only sells when the audience really gets invested in the characters. That's just how it is, it'd be nice if quality alone dictated sales but instead we should just be grateful when shipping and waifu/husbandofaggotry go hand in hand with a decent series.
/a/ can be confused for many things, but one thing it categorically fails at is prophecy.
Heh, how weak
Call me when it sells 66k on the first week
>Phichit taking a selfie with the graph
Reminder that disc sales are irrelevant in the age of Chinese streaming.
The chink anime fanbase are virtually all male otakus and don't give a shit about BL.
There has been in japan. Western whales don't know the half of it.
You're no fun.
Mocking shows for having low BD sales and celebrating when a show you like has high sales are classic /a/ traditions.
It's the truth though. BD sales compared to the past are way low with a few occasional big hits. Having more fujo shows isn't going to change the fact the industry is in a decline. It may hold it up for a while until it eventually end up tumbling down. Anime eventually is going to have to go mainstream if it wants to survive which to be honest the way the quality of the stories I been seeing in shows for years may be for the best.
We stole your throne when you weren't looking a long time ago, it's only taken you this long to finally noticing. We came at you not with invasion, but with infection, and you had no defense against it; no war to declare, your weapons stayed idle and your armor was useless. Where before you were able to stymie our advance with fury and fire, all it required was changing the nature of the battlefield to make fury and fire inconsequential. Now your world is our plaything, as are your hearts; your desires now service our desires, and now you face the choice you gave us for all those years: stay and accept your place, or perish in the cold and cling to memories of your now-dead age of glory.
You'll choose the former; you're too much the cowards to choose the latter.
Do you think people are posting these sales as proof that the industry is doing well? Sales are relative, they are only relevant in that we are comparing them with other series' sales. There is a time and place for talking about the industry as a whole but this is not it, this is for being smug or butthurt about how much your favourite series sells compared to others.
Do you guys know using stock images as references is common as fuck? There's lots of cases like those, not the first, not the last. Stop bitching. Indie artists do that, seniors too, it happens.
The number keeps creeping up. What would you do if it was surpassed, anon
>They also based their key frames on live action
No doubt we're gonna get a bunch of shitty rip-offs due to this and the fujos are gonna eat them up. Tumblr landwhales that praised YOI only on the basis of its "progressiveness" are gonna spill some serious salt once they realise Japan doesn't actually care about special snowflake shit.
>if it was surpassed
Anime always has issues first time airing. Wonder how the BDs will turn out. Kyoani itself had issues they corrected. There is also artistic license in order to emphasize motion.
Yeah, because that totally happened with Free, eh?
No, Oricon's error was confirmed. It's over 50k total.
>Oricon has updated its sales numbers for both the first Blu-ray Disc volume and the first DVD volume. Oricon now states that the first Blu-ray Disc volume sold 35,453 copies in first three days, while the first DVD volume sold 15,425 copies. The list had previously stated that the Blu-ray Disc volume had sold 24,513, while the DVD volume had sold 11,076.
We laugh because we are not deluded like you.
Your greatest flagship cannot even surpass GuP. And you want to challenge fucking Love Live?
>one gaybait show sells
>fujos now believe they are taking over the industry
>let's ignore the rest of shows that sold in 2016 and the amount of flopping fujoshows
What a meme
I'm surprised they praised YOI for being progressive. There was so much queerbaiting in it and neither of the characters were ever serious about any of the romantic things they were doing. Victor either laughed it all off as a joke and Yuri is the densest material known to man.
>LLfags actually threatened enough by YOI that they're participating in a one sided fanwar over the tiny minority of YOIfags who speculated it might beat LL
Kek, nobody gives a shit if it beats LL or not, the sales are amazing as they are. LL isn't the gauge for success and everyone knows it's a juggernaut, bragging about it beating an original series by a tiny studio is verging on pathetic.
If there was so much "passion" in this project, why couldn't they make TV version look good like FliFla?
I'm sure if they were really "passionate" about it, they'd try to make it as good as possible for the broadcast through any means
>passion alone can compensate for budget and scheduling issues
Yeah, like Haikyuu and swordshit flopping, amirite. You're just mad.
You don't understand true passion.
How about bragging about it cannot even beat the anime original GuP and fucking Madoka?
Don't be so hard on yourself. We are just teaching you your place :^)
Last season had 16 fujos airing at the same time. None of them managed to survive.
All because Love Live was on the prowl
YoI is lucky to have evaded the guilotine by an inch on the scalp
But Flip Flappers looked really good, how did they manage it while YOI didn't even though it had just as much "passion and hardwork"?
Haikyuu isn't a fujoshow, it's just a show fujos watch, but you have a good point.
Are you implying these aren't sales worth bragging about? Again, LL is not the benchmark for good sales. Nobody is targeting LL specifically. Coming in here to laugh at a series with great numbers because it didn't beat one of the biggest franchises in the industry is like bragging that you beat a child in a race or something, embarrassing as fuck. Not as embarrassing as how genuinely angry and threatened you sound though.
I think you mean they'll cry salt once they realise they haven't created any real change by praising it from afar either. Tumblr is obsessed with the idea that they can force western social justice principles onto an eastern country.
Which is called colonialism or imperialism or whatever but if you told them they were doing that they'd rage.
>Last season had 16 fujos airing at the same time
Name all of them, then we can talk.
If you don't want others bragging how small time you trully are, then don't make threads claiming you've won the industry
Shitposting begets shitposting
The vast majority of series flop whether it's fujo, yuri or het. Ignoring the fact that the 'fujos won!' shit is obvious hyperbole and bait, they have an undeniably significant market share at this point and we know it upsets you.
Why do faggots act like Love Live only succeed because it had idols?
Do you really think LL sold so much because it had cute girls dancing? [email protected] existed long before LL, and yet it's not nearly as successfull
The people who truly believe it isn't a pile of bait every fucking fujo show has are not to be bothered with. Just look at the "muh representation" shit mentions int he archives. These people are not /a/.
One has to wonder why women just can't be more honest and admit they find it hot.
I agree on the queerbaiting its practically shoujo tear baby's first bl but I liked what they did with the reveal of the crazy after party shenanigans. could have definitely been done better but with that revelation in mind it ties the romance better.
>Ignoring the fact that the 'fujos won!' shit is obvious hyperbole and bait
>ignoring half the thread
I mean yeah you could do that but it doesn't make fujos look like rational human beings.
I'll laugh so hard if they fuck it up for season two and go the cliche route like every other fujo show. Not showing them kissing directly is the only reason why anyone liked this. Fujos love a good tease.
There's nothing wrong with general, aimless gloating. If LLfags wanna start a thread bragging about it's sales, that's fine. But pretending the only praiseworthy sales are ones that beat LL is pathetic.
Because it only succeeded because it had idols? Remove idols, singing and dancing and you have nothing left. Otaku bought LL only for event tickets, they don't care about the show.
You might be a shallow little hetfag who only watch anime for cute girls but some women look for more things like good content, plot and charactersation. Not everyone is as dim as you anon.
>There's nothing wrong with general, aimless gloating
On the contrary, general aimless gloating pretty much means you're directing your gloating to everyone else, so don't be so surprised when you get swarmed. It's like going to a ghetto, taking out a megaphone and screaming "HAHAHAHA EAT SHIT NIGGERS" then backpedaling with "b-b-b-but I wasn't talking to you specifically mr jamal" when someone comes up to your face.
It was a cliche fujo show from day one. I don't know why people think it's any different. They aimed for the market from the start and filled it with pandering for them from the start.
Remove landwhale pandering from YOI and it wouldn't sell nearly as much too.
>they don't care about the show
Yep, it's not like there's tons of merch getting sold every day or anything
>good content, plot and charactersation.
Sure but what does that have to do with YOI?
Everyone expects shitposting and butthurt, that's the whole fun of the threads. That doesn't mean we won't notice when someone is being particularly retarded and they absolutely deserve to be told that.
Japan literally does not give a shit about fags or dykes. So all you little special snowflakes that think that your yurishit/yaoishit isn't there to bait heteros are fucking deluded.
Are you going to continue avoiding the issue at hand here, which is that some people have decided literally the ONLY justification for praising/celebrating/bragging about these sales is if they beat LL? It's fucking retarded. They are going to be told they're retarded. It's not about whether or not it's 'okay'.
Oricon ranking of yesterday is up.
BD - #1
DVD - #2
First time BD takes first place in the daily rankings.
Crazy how the blu-ray version is actually ahead of SMAP.
No fucking shit, that's why the term 'queerbaiting' CANNOT APPLY. They don't care about queers, they aren't the intended audience. They are not being baited, they are being ignored entirely.
I was actually agreeing with you. That retard that thinks that Japan was actually catering to his faggot ass is delusional. "Queerbait" does not exist in accordance to Japanese media.
That's not what the term means, you moron. You can't invent definitions like that. Call it fujobait if you must, but queerbaiting is a specific thing that does not apply in this situation.
As >>151895364 says they didn't aim it at the western audience that’s praising it, so it can't apply (thus making all those letters the queer tumblr crowd are trying to send the makers saying thank you for validating them hilarious). However, you could probably make a good argument for it being done unintentionally.
Sorry for being late. My computer suddenly crashed
Anyway, here's your list of the unfortunate ones who faced Love Live's wrath:
>Fudanshi Koukou Seikatsu
>Fukigen na Mononokean
>Scared Rider Xechs
>Tsukiuta. The Animation
>Tales of Zestiria
>using a tumblr word and making up your own definition
How the fuck is that any better? They made it up, it's already a SJW word. You're using it for no good reason and people are rightfully telling you to use an /a/ appropriate term instead.
LL is all they have left. LL is what they think is the final boss to us, but LL is Teruki and YoI is Mob. We're not even fighting, we're just hanging out and having fun while they come in uninvited, fling shit in the air and scream about being the centre of the universe.
Literally every highlight of every episode in this show had been some fanservice scene for fujoshits to go mental about.
>omg they kissed!!!
>omg naked ass!!
>omg wedding ring!!!
At least don't pretend this show sold so much because it had "good writing".
Were you afraid of opening your eyes cause you could see two guys getting engaged? This time watch it with open eyes and try to use your brain in the process. I know, it's not easy for you but maybe, just maybe you can see we have human characters here, all of them with their own motives and reasons to be there, relationships that are realistic even with all the real life problems, respect and love for figure skating, so much that it's appreciated by real life figure skaters.
Don't be a butthurt little shit anon. If something is good, don't be afraid to enjoy it just to prove a point to yourself.
It is a fujobait show. Last season was the most fujo season I've ever seen. And what a laugh it was to see it all fail under Love Live's commands
>All these hetfag tears
I wonder if they're crying as they desperately move the goalposts now they can't call it a flop
>but it didn't beat LL!
>but they traced!
>but it's queerbaiting!
They really keep these threads entertaining. If they had a little maturity and didn't get upset by something aimed at a different demographic doing well, there'd be no reason for us to be so smug over it.
None of us wanted Love Live to fail. A lot of people that like YoI also like Love Live. You're pathetic because you're actively rooting for a show to fail and when it doesn't you're still claiming superiority because a show you like as much as many in this thread did better. We don't care about beating Love Live we care about getting a second season.
I mean I've definitely seen way more gay OVA's, but YOI had more homo in the first episode than the entirety of anime based on actual BL games (DMMD, TNC.) I'm hard pressed at finding an example of a non-baity gay anime that actually aired on TV. Japan isn't exactly accepting of the actual homo gays, so baiting is frankly all that you'll get.
From what I heard of my fujo friends, the director for YOI is fairly adamant about them being actually gay, but can't actually make it happen.
That being said, is queerbaiting really any worse than lolrandumb titty shots and perv humor that gets injected in literally every other show? They're both fucking stupid. The last show I saw that had neither was fucking Kekkai wait till next season for the finale episode Sensen.
Touhou is the FINAL BOSS.
One of them were actually female though. And when they met again, it was only a very short time until one of them died. And they weren't romatically involved before they met again. That doesn't count as a canon gay couple.
Well, since it's literally a love story - a love story interwoven so deeply in the narrative that it's also reflected in the skating itself - it's a given that the memorable moments would mostly revolve around intimacy between the protagonists. That's obvious. Do you also point out that all memorable moments in, say, Death Note involve murders with Death Note?
What's the big deal again? It's still far below LL or Madoka.
>MUH SJW MUH PROGRESSIVES
You faggots realize that fujo shows like YOI are aimed at straight women right? Japan doesn't give a shit about faggots from San Francisco or cuck western liberal "progressiveness".
>Having more fujo shows isn't going to change the fact the industry is in a decline. It may hold it up for a while until it eventually end up tumbling down.
>I thought there were only a few fujo shows this coming year.
>Anime eventually is going to have to go mainstream if it wants to survive which to be honest the way the quality of the stories I been seeing in shows for years may be for the best.
Just because fujo shows are trending doesn't mean that the anime industry is going to take evasive action and actually go mainstream overnight (which it is, at least in Japan). We'll have to see what happens if this becomes the case in foreign countries, but it'll be unlikely for another couple of years. People are still going to have their slice-of-life, harem, ecchi, and whatever else. Who knows, maybe it'll result in a boom.
Case in point:
I wonder what gay and bi Japanese men think of YoI. And while it's targeting the fujo audience, I'm pretty sure a lot of fujo aren't straight. I don't give a shit about Western lgbtwtf though, I always see people who don't know shit about anime state their opinion on the show like they're experts.
Yeah, I saw someone repost a giant, feels filled letter about how glad they were that Japan was recognising their plight and that the makers had taken such care to research the queer identity and represent it so respectfully on screen.
In truth, the only reason Yuri and Victor weren't slobbering all over each other from the start is due to TV censorship.
I never even watched the show but I called this mid season. I knew vol 1 was going to sell over 60k and would probably be the best selling show of the year. Now I'm here to laugh at all the retards who called me a fujo while posting smug love live girls screenshots.
Because most of them are Americans, some of them are European, and they're self-centered as fuck. They think many anime and manga are for and about them when they're by Japanese authors for a Japanese audience, and then they complain about cultural appropriation and racism. Don't bother trying to understand them too much.
You mean fudanshi? Which ones? I'm sure all the artists I've seen on twitter posting their baldfat doujin are women.
>than the entirety of anime based on actual BL games (DMMD, TNC.)
That's because nobody wanted to work on a homo game anime adaptation when they found out what the source material was. TnC completely burned because the director didn't want to keep working on it.
YoL is different because the director and writer were so focused on being able to do what they wanted, which was gay skating,
I don't understand what you're trying to say anon. One of them was a woman when they were engaged. And that one died after they met again but now he was male. What do you mean "left together"? Alma died, where did they go? There was only Kanda left anyway, we can't even say "they".
Btw, I'm genuinely curious. I wonder if I didn't get that part.
>I'll laugh so hard if they fuck it up for season two and go the cliche route like every other fujo show. Not showing them kissing directly is the only reason why anyone liked this. Fujos love a good tease.
Are we talking about Yuri on Ice or Free?
>>projecting your delusions this hard
We don't know and I for one don't care, he's based as fuck
Man. Calling that season a slaughter would be a complete underestimation. Love Live killed everyone, even the ones on their team like New Game which was a successful manga and should have sold 10K.
I can only imagine how fujos would twist their faces if their Free and YoI dared to stand against this behemoth
He really is.
The fact that a guy drew this gets me so wet desu.
That's a rather sad thing to say
Bait my favorite buzzword of 2016. Prove me wrong.
You're talking about the Japanese fujos? I read an article on a blog about it, but I can't find the source anymore. Basically you have the fujos who only care about 2d gay guys, the ones who are so shameless they harass rl gay guys in the street or in gay bars so they can see the yaois irl, some are respectful and don't give their opinions, but that's about fujos in general, not just the ones who watch yoi.
That is like saying: If I drink bleach and die, I die. If I live, I get to make history.
You are correct, but no, there won't be a happy end
sounds beautiful. don't we all win then?
>I'll laugh so hard if they fuck it up for season two and go the cliche route like every other fujo show.
I don't get why people say this.
A classic fujo shows is something like Free. The characters are friends and nothing happens.
The character in YoI are not friends, it's impossible to read it like that. The pandering and fanservice it's ingrained into the narrative like in shows like Bakemonogatari. More so, we passed the "nothing happens" threshold long ago. What's the definition of nothing happens? More shit happened in this than your favorite romance anime.
>We have nothing to lose but you have everything.
The fact that it sold so well was enough. Fujos rarely get good shut to begin with, so if it were to "lose" to LL, no big deal. I'm happy that it came as far as it did. You guys will always have your idols so don't even know why you feel the urge to feel smug.
It's like a rich guy bragging to a poor guy.
>You may finally have a nice X but dont forget that mine is encrusted with diamonds.
In Japan there's no debate about queer baiting and muh represenation. Nippon queers don't care about it and have far more positive opinions about BL and yaoi than western LGBT. From what I've seen Yoi reception was overwhelmingly positive
That would be an amazing feat, but I have nothing against Madoka or LL anyway. I'm happy with what it's sold. I was happy even when we thought it sold less. Loads of us enjoyed the show and the threads. Its success is a nice bonus.
I've seen people talk about how some Japanese people were upset that homophobia wasn't addressed in yoi because it's almost never addressed in general, but I've never seen actual Japanese people complain about it. Other than that I'm not too surprised they don't give a fuck or they like it.
Kubo said she wanted a show full of love, so no homophobia in Yoi world. I'm not saying that's a great choice, but I understand that it had to be this way for the happy and positive atmosphere of the show.
Me too, it would have felt out of place given that the show is supposed to be fun and comfy. And with only 12 episodes it would have been hard to bring that up in the first place, we already were supposed to get a scene with Yuiro sating on Welcome to the Madness and it's not even there.
>Comics are already ruined by SJWs
>Jap games that are brought over to the west are getting censored and ruined by SJWs
>Anime is getting ruined by fujos
Yeah, gayshit sells to niche audience such as anime nerds. None of this can come even close to Kimi no Na Wa, which is a pure STRAIGHT romance. The problem with anime is that hetero romance tends to be incredibly boring and predictable so people will turn to gays.
I wasn't talking about real activists, but about people who are crazy about preventing others to do what they want because it's "bad" and "problematic", even if it's actually harmless, and who don't actually help fight oppression. The ones who criticize others to feel superior to them, kind of like on tumblr or twitter.
The "small alt-right group" you're talking about is netouyo, which is basically like /pol/(political "activists" who don't do shit in real life though, just online). The Japanese society sees them as pathetic nerds but it's quite common among anime fans which is why unrealistic nationalistic stuff like GATE is so popular. Basically people who don't know anything about their own country's history because it's a taboo in Japanese education.
>The problem with anime is that hetero romance tends to be incredibly boring and predictable so people will turn to gays.
Gay isn't any less predictable and otaku just aren't into homo/yuri/shipping as much as fujoshi. They more worship the waifu than the pairing. Just look at Rem or Megumin's overwhelming popularity this year.
Um no? Do you even read BL? Homophobia is talked about a lot and most of the time the uke reminds the seme that they're both guys and they can't go on like this because society or their families and what's the point of two men dating. (One popular BL even says they can't marry so why date. I'm serious.)
Should I feel anything about seeing two men getting engaged? Should I see that as good writing and characterization? Western media had controversial themes like that ages ago and there's gay couples in every TV show and film, it's not like I'm not used to it. Titles like that have actually changed the society and attitudes, your trashy fujobait anime will never be anything on that level.
I'm happy for MAPPA, they deserve it after giving us the gift that is baldfat.
I enjoy any kind of romance, I don't really care if it's straight, bl or yuri (though I tend to value the gay ones a little more since they're more unusual).
The thing about Yuri on ice is that the characters are actually likable, unlike in most anime romance stories. I wouldn't say deep, there wasn't much time to develop that anyway in one season, but it has been a long time since an anime cast hasn't made me cringe.
Is homophobia really that big of a deal in Nip land?
I've always thought East Asia is more open when it come to LGBT. I know when I used to live in Thailand people were pretty open to homosexual relationships.
>Jap games that are brought over to the west are getting censored and ruined by SJWs
Debatable, but the most they've done is fucked with the localization, which in itself is an issue.
>Anime is getting ruined by fujos
I haven't heard of a fujo that was an SJW. Besides, most of them are just there to objectify (yes, I hate this word as much as everyone else does) gay men.
Kind of. The majority live in a 1950s-esque mentality when it comes to LGBT stuff, at least from what I know in Japan.
Homosexuality does exist and is more or less accepted in certain places of East Asia like you mentioned, but I'll have to look into it more.
Not all countries are the same. In Japan they pretend gay people don't exist instead of actively shitting on them. Honestly it seems to suck not to be acknowledged and taken seriously, but it doesn't seem so bad compared to the countries where not being straight is illegal.
>The thing about Yuri on ice is that the characters are actually likable, unlike in most anime romance stories. I wouldn't say deep, there wasn't much time to develop that anyway in one season, but it has been a long time since an anime cast hasn't made me cringe.
Pretty much this, the only reason I care about the romance are characters. I'm not even a fujo, this is my first homo anime.
I don't know some of those but I do know that /a/ calls anything with mostly female audience fujo. Or anything that has more homo fanart/doujin than there is hetero is automatically fujo in their eyes.
/u/ blown the fuck out yet again.
This just proves literally no one in the world likes yuri, and more people are open to a good story with gay men than disgusting, soulless lesbians pandering to pedophiles. Madoka going full het will be the nail in the coffin.
They don't seem to understand that something can have a fujo audience without it being the intended audience. I know some female otaku don't like or even hate actual BL or gay stuff so it's inaccurate anyway.
Yuri is pure degeneracy. Lesbians are evil and hated all around thd globe. That's why they're portrayed as monsters in anime. Yuri never sells, their fans are subhuman and deserve to suffer.
This. I want to see them burn when Madoka gets a boyfriend and kills Homura.
Yeah, they mostly view being gay as a western thing. No one really cares because it's not a "real" thing to most of them.
So obviously for gay people here it's really shitty, as they feel compelled to hide it/marry and have babies anyway, as if you come out you're basically a freak and it's shameful.
Yuri is pure degeneracy with no redeeming points. The Love Lives are all straight and will get boyfriends. The only high selli g anime with lesbianism is Madoka and only the villain and most hated character Homura is gay.
Isn't it a little bit easier nowadays for young people? Because since young Japanese people in general aren't really into dating and are called "herbivores", it seems easier to hide it without the pressure to date marry someone in order to seem straight. If that makes sense.
Well yes but gay people have to face homophobia too and it sometimes (or most of the time depending on where you live) becomes a big issue that comes with being gay. Like, you and your relationship is really normal but some people are assholes and some are violent assholes and you have to go through some ridiculous shit. It's our reality.
Wait, is this true? How do we know they didn't make a mistake again? Holy shit I really want to believe.
