Why does anime bother having male protagonists when the female lead always end up becoming the more popular and marketed ones?
What's anime with a self-insert protagonist?

Thread. Go home ladies and gentlement
So the turbovirgin beta orbiter japanese audience can self insert with the bland black haired brown eyed harem stumbler.

Why can't they self insert into the bland, black haired, brown eyed girl?
We'll see if this meme is true when Virgin Soul and Sword of Orotaria come around.
Self insert

It's difficult to self insert with a character you can not associate with yourself.
You can obviously have shows in which self insertation is not a focus but the nips have realized sticking an easily associatable jappy everyman in as the protagonist is an easy starting point for clammy NEETbucks
What do you mean? Kirito is popular. Lelouch is far more popular than CC.
Unless you mean romcoms/harems where the whole point is to sell the female characters. The same applies in media aimed at women, where it's the males being sold. A protagonist with the same sex as the audience aids the fantasy.

If the viewer sees a protagonist who resembles himself become romantically involved a girl he finds attractive he's watching the show under the premise of "that could be me" and thus experiences romance by proxy. He's also given the confirmation that the girl is attracted to someone like him and thus he can way easier imagine himself in a romantic situation with said girl because it has been confirmed that she likes people like him.
Without the protagonist this is impossible.

>more popular than CC
I have a hard time believing that

What's hard to believe? Lelouch is a phenomenon. Tops polls all the time. Suzaku is also more popular than her.

CG is fujoshit

I think there's a bigger difference in character between genders in Japan compared to the West, so that would be even less possible than it is in western fiction.

I cant take female protagonist in shonen mangas seriously I always see them as fucktoys.

It's omnipandering.

Yet you have plenty opf games with gender selectable main characters that keep 99% of the same dialog and the only difference is the FeMC comes off as a bit of a tomboyish lesbian.

No, it's mostly fujoshit.

If you're obsessed with the gay parts.
