I'll actually answer this seriously for a change of pace.

I remember watching on TV Speed Racer and Pokemon, but I didn't even know those were Japanese and shiet.

Along the way I was kind of watching anime that was airing on TV, but stopped at the same time as I stopped watching TV.

Then in my country there was big Haruhi Suzumiya boom and I was just getting into this Internet thing, don't look at me, my parents could afford only PS2 to me and my brother at 2006. So I kind of got hooked in.

I liked it, and was watching an anime or two for years. Mostly Miyazaki movies or something very specific.

Tipping point for me was Kino's Journey, because, well, I was looking for something exactly like fucking that, but somehow didn't know I wanted it. So, I just check out seasonal crap, like 5 or 6 shows while cleaning my backlog. Pretty mild, but I also read mangas and I am not a NEET.

I had contact with anime for a pretty long time now. Starting as kid with DB,DBZ,DBGT, Slayers, Yaiba, Magic Knight Rayearth, Pokemon, Shaman King. Then when I was in early teens there was this TV Program in my country, where past 9 PM they aired like 2 anime per season. From what I remember there was Bleach, FMA, NGE, Black Lagoon, Eureka Seven. This is where I first learned the word "anime", but the first time I watched online with knowing it being anime was via friend recomendation. We were rollerskates maniacs at the time, so he found Air Gear and told me about it, and from there went downhill.

I listened to/really likes his music well before I ever watched anything anime related. But over time I got more and more interested in the whole Japanese thing he plays on. Then i was browsing youtube and I saw something anohana related pop up, and I remebered he said it was one of his favorite series. So i watched the vid and all the comments were saying how good it was, how i made then cry etc. So I gave it a go & since then I've been trying to find things that make me feel the same way that series did.

Its still my favorite series, but it was a bit odd to me. I dunno, maybe to native Japs it seems less out of place. The whole thing with the notes Menma left was really well done, but the last 30-40 seconds of the thing were a bit 'huh?'

I unironically got into it to socialize with people. I heard anime was big at the university I was going to, and I figured if I got into it, I'd have something to talk with people about other than sterile /sci/ crap and obscure webcomics that no one has ever heard of.

Eventually I watched chobits and then toradora in september and really, really liked it so I came here to find more good shit and have been watching for much of my free time since.

that was literally the last 4 episodes and nobody really suffered at all. It turned out all right in the end when ryuuji quickly figured out the mistakes he was making. If his mother hadn't run away basically nothing would have happened and it reconnected his mother with her parents anyway. Neither was it spur of the moment since they were basically housemates from day 1 even though they weren't into each other at that time

When I was in like first grade (or somewhere around that) everyone watched DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh and Beyblade. Those were the 3 anime all the kids watched and if you didn't you were a loser.

Eventually most people moved on from anime, but I simply never did. Though there was a bit of a drought between when German TV mostly stopped airing anime and I didn't yet have access to the internet.

I watched Pokémon, Digimon and Cardcaptors as a kid. Halfway through high school I gave up most of my extra-curricular activities to focus on studying, so when the holidays came I had more time to myself than I was ever used to. I quickly learned that The Simpsons didn't have the range of comedy, action, drama and romance, mostly romance, that I craved. I vaguely remember Toradora being the first series I actually watched. After that, I've been hooked.
