Why are /a/'s memes so shit nowadays? Old memes and flashes actually had creativity since people bothered to put effort into them.

Post old memes.

>>
>>151818717
Nice false comparison.
We dont feel like anyone else owes anything to society, we just want normies out, like we always have. This has always been the case since the dawn of the internet. The only thing thay has changed is how we express this.
>>

Fixed.
/b/ and other such boards are far too stigmatized nowadays, as with visiting any other board. Leads to the kind of far-too-insular circlejerky stagnation I reckon /a/ suffers heavily from today.
There's no enough creativity because everyone is too afraid of standing out in any way, despite the forced anonymity.

>>
>>151818951
arguably, yes.
not as a direct result, it's more like the whole concept of containment boards is the problem. it should all be 4chan, but nowadays everyone treats each board like different (shitter) sites entirely.

Where did I say anything about not understand the culture? I said "doing something interesting", which is what this thread says /a/ is lacking now. If you do anything interesting you get spergs who take themselves too seriously saying you're not funny (regardless of how funny it is), forced meme, etc. This was not the case before.
>>
>>151819015
>How is telling someone to 'fuck off' for not understanding the culture until they are ready to assimilate the same as what you are saying.
Not him, but isn't the problem that the "culture" is way too specific? If you stand out in any way at all you're inviting shitposting.
Obviously normalfags should fuck off, but not everyone that gets called a normalfag is actually a normalfag. /a/ is too quick to smother any attempt at fun, whether it's the good kind of fun or the bad kind of fun.

Yes, but there's no reason to, community shaming is normally enough. It was in the past, when saging wasn't b&. That you don't understand that is one sign, as the first post quoted pointed out. It's also because of the idea that there's somehow a suffocating in-culture when /a/ has largely lost its identity, that his analysis is so off-mark (that anyone is at all afraid to "stand out" is a completely absurd misinterpretation of the nature of imageboards), and not least that the entire character of the post is a cliche newfag attitude - the self-confident outsider observer making an analysis of what he feels the board is doing wrong from his enlightened perspective despite only browsing a few months. I say browsing, because I very much doubt the self satisfied cunt ever bothered to lurk.

It doesn't matter at this point, this site is a hollow zombie and your ilk makes it clear every day.

My point was that it suffocates originality if anything you do is just going to be written off as a newfag being written off as flaunting his newfaggotry. The whole reason insularity is bad is because stifling new (or at least different) ideas directly causes stagnation, which was what I theorized to be the reason newer /a/ memes suck compared to older ones.

>That you don't understand that is one sign, as the first post quoted pointed out. It's also because of the idea that there's somehow a suffocating in-culture when /a/ has largely lost its identity, that his analysis is so off-mark (that anyone is at all afraid to "stand out" is a completely absurd misinterpretation of the nature of imageboards),
I didn't mean "stand out" in an individuality sense, more in the "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down" sense. If you don't 100% conform to the general /a/ approved mindset in your post then you're obviously nothing more than a cancerous newfag crossborder. New content sucks because nobody wants to try when they'll just get called redditors and their OC will just be ignored because it's "too cancerous" or whatever.

>and not least that the entire character of the post is a cliche newfag attitude - the self-confident outsider observer making an analysis of what he feels the board is doing wrong from his enlightened perspective despite only browsing a few months. I say browsing, because I very much doubt the self satisfied cunt ever bothered to lurk.
I know this doesn't matter, but for the record I'm the guy you're talking about and I started lurking regularly around later 2013. /pol/ is a cancerous growth, where playing the idiot has fed upon itself in a terrible cycle that makes everyone effectively an idiot. It doesn't matter if they're all "just pretending" when there's no difference between that and having literal retards on that board.

>for the record I'm the guy you're talking about
I'm aware and it doesn't matter. You have to either mix pronouns or preface every single address with a non-commital when being meta with newfags or else they play he said-she said as they don't understand the concept of addressing the general in anonymous discourse.

>I started lurking regularly around later 2013. I'm not claiming that makes me an oldfag or anything
It makes you new as fuck. I'd ask you how new do you have to be to think that 2013 isn't newfag beyond redemption, but I obviously don't have to ask.

>but it's more than enough time that I can say I have a solid grasp of how things work here
It clearly isn't.

>New content sucks because nobody wants to try when they'll just get called redditors and their OC will just be ignored because it's "too cancerous" or whatever
This isn't at all what's happening, as I said: what the fuck is wrong with you? You've got no idea how this works. You're just too new to be sensitive to what's being identified as cancerous so it looks like blind firing. New content is generated all the time, and memes have never needed to be screened, they follow a natural selection (good OC doesn't need to be told it's good, the proof is when it takes root by others saving and reposting); the exception is forced memes, for breaking that order. Only cancer gets actively culled.

Look, only newfags hesitate to post thinking they'll get sage shamed. The real fundamental barrier is the nature of thread exposure. Threads on more obscure shows sink like rocks. It results in /a/ being highly seasonal with only the biggest or cult shows getting off season threads. To answer OP, its this nature with respect to the change in the anime industry towards shorter show runs that cause memes to last only 1 season each. There are other factors - catalog resulting in consolidation into generals, and also obviously the overwhelming newfaggotry that has consumed 4chan in the last 5 years etc.

Forget the "anyone who started broswing after 20XX is automatically a newfag" meme for a second, 3 years is longer than you seem to realize, especially for something that's as addictive as 4chan is.

I'm not going to try to refute the rest of your post, because in broad terms you're right about a lot of it.

But none of that changes the fact that the insular nature of /a/'s culture stifles creativity, especially when compared to a decade or more ago.

I think cuck is pretty funny actually. The new usage of this word can accurately express certain things that we couldn't express in one word before. It's popular because with this one word you can easily convey common ideas that would otherwise take a few lines of text (and you'd have to repeat those lines every time to make your point, much better to have 1 word for it).

Cancer isn't a number. you're a newfag based on the way you talk, your opinions, what you know and more than anything, how you approach 4chan/anonymous discourse. no one knows what year you actually started browsing.

>But none of that changes the fact that the insular nature of /a/'s culture stifles creativity, especially when compared to a decade or more ago.
The only insular nature /a/ has is the more cancerous shows getting consolidated into generals and the aforementioned thing about only threads on not airing shows that don't sink are big/cult shows.

Refer to that Youtube link. /a/ was mad when it came out, tried making it's own and spectacularly failed in the attempt. This was doubly insulting to /a/, since as you may already know, /jp/ was composed of /a/ rejects, mostly to contain Touhou threads spilling to everything.

In any case, both /a/ and /jp/, the latter even more so, are no longer significant within 4chan.

Isolating itself from the other popular boards is a big part of /a/. You're cancer if you're recognizably "from" /v/ or /b/ or /pol/ or /r9k/. The more reasonable anons will clarify that it's not browsing those boards that's the issue, it's bringing those board's posting tendencies to /a/; but the majority of anons are not sensible about it.

This is nothing but a good thing and probably one of the major reasons why /a/ has still managed to stave off most of the cancer that has completely rotted almost every other board. Which, FYI, has been true re: redditors since 2011 or 12 or so, which might be why you have so much trouble identifying what people are so threatened by.

Ever heard of Chesterton's fence, newfag?
>In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.

I don't even want to be posting about this right now. I wouldn't be posting about it if you retards didn't greentext
>Kek is the possibly the most elaborate meme
as if that was incorrect. That makes me have to provide an explanation. Two final comments
1. Kek was extremely popular on /pol/ before and during Trumps election. This isn't some obscure meme.
2. The meme has dozens of different elements that are attached to it, linked to its origination and to its usage. Posters on /pol/ who use the meme are aware of these details. Again, this isn't some obscure thing a random person came up with, it's widely known on /pol/. This makes it the most elaborate meme on 4chan easily, proving my point.

This is my last post about this because I didn't even want to have this discussion, and I will not respond to braindead greentext replies.

>>151820584

>>

OPT is already on its way to becoming a general considering the increased frequency.
>>
>>151820584
It originated on SC1 with korean users, they laugh with ㅋㅋㅋㅋ which sounds like kekekek. Iiirc it only really took hold on 4chan when we were moving to increasingly obscure forms of LOL to avoid net fags, eg LOL to lol to lel to kek; just like trollface to ironic troll face to ruseman to bait

that video's retarded. its influence was due to heavy synchronicities, which first came to light with /tv/'s baneposting causing a plane crash. if /a/ hadn't become an irrelevant shithole, the connection to serial experiments lain's collective net consciousness and the narratives of both seasons of GITS:SAC would've been immediately made.

Are you seriously that new here? What year did /qa/ and /fa/ start, anyway?

Well, it's to be expected, at one time 4chan had a unified board culture. At this point, the boards are large enough and isolated enough that they each have their own sets of memes and culture. Fewer and fewer memes spread cross-board now.
>>
>>151820819

>>151820859
Isolation from other boards' cancer is a good thing. It's how /a/ has always operated and it's very obvious why it's so. It does not necessarily have to result in stagnation, new blood is accepted if properly assimilated.

It might be hard for a total newfag like yourself to understand, but when someone calls out cross posters, they're not actually suggesting no one should ever browse other boards. Obviously most everyone on /m/ also browses /a/, what they mean is to keep whatever shit you might've dragged in from the other board outside the door - if you can tell you're a crossposter, you should just GTFO. just like if you can tell you're new, you should STFU and lurk.

>I'm having trouble understanding what the hell you mean by this.
Redditors had already mostly consumed the each of the major boards on 4chan beyond recognition by 2011 - 2012 depending on the board. Because you joined in 2013, you wouldn't really recognize the difference between 'posters on X board' compared to 'cancer on X board'.

No, he's right but it doesn't actually matter. The trick is that Chesterton is just laying a heuristic down for the newfag reformers to keep them in line. He doesn't actually have to follow it himself. Even following the rule, it's up to him, not the newfag, to make the decision to destroy it.

It's a rhetorical paradox, meant to demonstrate how logical people and arrive at illogical conclusions, and, more importantly, to teach you to avoid the same kind of problem.
The trick is that the intelligent reformer is purposefully blurring the line between explanation and justification, in order to force the first reformer to think.
He demands the first reformer present an argument in favor of the fence as proof that he understands it.
By itself, that's a wise thing to do-- you must understand your opponent before you can attack him. Of course, if you never advance beyond playing devil's advocate, nothing will ever get done, and you're just giving ammunition to the other side of the issue.
In practice, most of the time the guy playing "intelligent reformer" will use this as a delaying tactic, or worse, receive the first reformer's argument in favor of the fence and say "see, told you the fence has to stay up, retard."
It only works if both sides are willing to listen.

>First one is /qa/, /fa/ and other reddit-tier bs

This is a good example of an Anon who doesn't know his own history.

Lol Winrar, 9000 Internets -- these 4chan memes are so old and so established that of course they would be among the first ones adopted by cultures outside 4chan.

Eventually they became stale and sowe stopped using them, and now newfriend anon only sees them coming from outside 4chan, where they continue to survive and propagate. So he assumes they are foreign reddit memes, rejecting his own native 4chan culture because he does not recognize it.

Also regarding >>151818019 I am glad we still have the ancient tradition of imouto threads, even if nobody else on /a/ (including mods) likes them.

I'd argue the difference is /a/ generally had fun and was nice to each other with stuff like that, whereas /v/ is just a constant loop of mean spirited people insulting each other.

The ability to successfully tread the gray is the difference between a decent poster and a shitposter.

Said picture's frequency of repost is relatively small. It's enough to be endearing, but not enough to be overused into oblivion. Furthermore, the few who do post this picture don't put it on a pedestal and act as if it's the most hilarious thing ever and deserves to be spammed: (bananas, frog, etc). It's not posted as a representation of funny, or as a face of anything. It's itself.

Shit man. This understanding used to be commonplace. It was only the newfags who haven't lurked long enough and were trying to fit in who didn't understand that we weren't trying to be funny for the sake of being funny. We were just being, and sometimes that being happened to be funny and sometimes it didn't. As such there was no need to run a joke into the ground, because the jokes were just happenstance and we were moving onto new happenstance by the time they ran out of steam.

Everything I have to say to this post would only be a repeat of my other posts in this thread, however you didn't actually explain what you meant by it. What does that have to do with anything I've been saying? Why did you post it in the first place?

All I'm saying is this:
1. "current" /a/ is stagnant
2. the stagnation is caused by "isolating" itself from anything seen as cancerous i.e crossborders, newfags, redditors etc
3. the end result is a "no fun allowed" atmosphere, stifling original content. this isn't to say nothing funny comes out of /a/ now, just that it's a shadow of its former self in that regard

Nowhere am I saying this is the worst case scenario, or that I'd prefer /a/ be like any other board. I'm simply saying that things are not ideal. Stop carrying the conversation away from the topic.

Is there anything more that you would like to add before I go to sleep?

>successfully tread the gray

If you can't see the difference between that and bananas/frog, there's no hope for you. Multiple people aren't posting sakurafish in multiple thread for the sake of posting sakurafish to be funny/be acknowledged/fit in.

The frequency as which it's posted has decreased steadily over time. It's not some fad that everyone caught onto and wants to be a part of it to fit in. It's not flip haircuts. It's not wearing a silver chain around your neck. It's not posting frogs.

There's belonging, and there's wanting to fit in, wanting to jump in on the cool. If you can't tell the difference then you either haven't lurked long enough, don't belong, or just don't care.
>>
Something I saw last year that gave me great price in /a/:
In the Mayoiga superthreads, there were oldfags actively reminding anons not to make a new thread until the current one hit page 10, and encouraging them to decide who would make the new one ahead of time.
>>
>>151821338
I post exclusively in /a/ /his/, /wsg/ and /co/ I go on a few other boards regularly but I refuse to post on them as they are beneath me.
Crossboarders are fags that can't leave their baggage at the door. I keep my /co/ and /his/ shit there. I don't Stirner shit post in /a/ threads or autistically screech about how glad I am that space rocks will be canceled soon and are getting the Korra treatment.

This is mostly true, however, I think it's possible for someone to be cancerous in one place and not in another.
For example, when I get into a niche seasonal show with only 20 other people ever interested during a thread I am courteous and we all have a great time. When there's a massive rolling thread/general about something that is seasonal while I might start out quality I will go with the flow and shit post, in time.
You can't squeeze water from rocks so you might as well enjoy throwing them through windows. It's a common goods problem. The second shit posting tips the scales and quality is no longer even moral viable is when it all goes down.

>>
>>151821869
Not always. I've seen blanket bans end things on other boards. The trick was with those, I suppose, was the demographic wasn't as ingrained into other areas. If all the ketai posters were into a particular show and that alone, then banning it would stop that shit quickly as they would have no reason to stay.
If they were all jojofags then banning jojo here would make them go back where they came from and their spam with them. Ket-ai has been left too long and now people that ACTUALLY post here are part of the cancer.

When did the > started getting called meme arrows again?

I think changes in society as the Internet became so much more mainstream and widespread have changed things so people don't really care about "teh weirdz place" any more.

To kids today the Internet isn't a toy, or an exciting new frontier to discover. It's just a part of life they've always had.

I am but a baby

I think it's ever since people started using it outside of 4chan.

So the 90s?

So since usenet?

No, I mean when it became mainstream knowledge. Maybe 2010 or something.

She's supposed to elicit a reaction other than indifference. In that regard, she has failed.

Fuck, discovering the internet held possibly held unlimited porn was one of the funnest things about it when I was young.

You just had to download it for about two days and hope nobody calls during that time.

I can't tell whether our cancer spread to them or their cancer spread back to us.

I am genuinely enjoying this thread, it's surprisingly civil and I hope mods will respect that

First to them and now back to us.

Mods put this thread on autosage a while ago.
>>
>>151822341
Autosage is lame.
If you don't like thread delete it mod.

Basically that. A containment mascot for a containment board.

She doesn't even have a "thing" to her like Ebola-chan or Nevada-tan. She's just there. "Top kek" and whatnot.

It started in 201X when we got another shipment of newfags who didn't use them properly, thus the ironic term 'meme arrows' appeared.
>>

>its popular therefore good
>>
>>151822353
no, this is fine. autsaging is a functional "I don't dislike this thread, but it shouldn't be here". It's like saying "hey, move along now" without abruptly ending all the conversation by pruning it.
>>
>>151822353
It's a decent solution to board discussion meta threads.
>>
>>151822341
Mods are fucking trash and as much of a problem as newfags.
>>
>>151822353
They tried that with Keit-ai and look where we are.
>>

>"hey, move along now"
Well, it's working.

Still, I agree with you that it's better than suddenly deleting the thread.

Ebaum's World was the original toilet of the Internet where everything is reposted. 9gag has taken over.

Anyone still here?
