It was around two years ago. Anime has just become more and more popular on normie social networks too and loli images are never too far away from a normies timeline, especially on Twitter. Once you like or retweet one anime picture, you just get flooded with new followers and 90% of them are ERP accounts and you can tell they're owned by 14 year olds, so you get tarred with the same brush.

Most people just have a preconception about it.
It was the same way with comic books and shit like Star Trek until someone figured out there was money to be made there. Same thing will happen with anime.

As an American, I got into anime back in the early 90's. Hardly any white people watched anime back then, it was practically unheard of. It was really kind of an underground phenomenon in the white middle class suburbs, you had to be "in-the-know".

Then the fucking internet exploded and now anime is fucking everywhere.

Anime is really a "young adult" genre. Its when you're too old to enjoy kiddie shit but not old enough to enjoy truly grown up things, like literature and art.

Its the same thing with movies. They are really after that 18-25 demographic.
