Steel Ball Run made me cry. Is this normal?
Also, SBRverse jojo thread
>>
You can cry at anything if it touches you. I don't cry from fiction because I'm a cold hearted piece of shit but if it affected you that much then it did it's job. SBR had some pretty emotional moments towards the end, despite it's shortcomings.
>>
I didn't cry from SBR, but I got really emotionally invested into it. Everything from the Civil War arc on was an emotional rollercoaster.
>>
>>151782155
This. It was good, but not enough to cry over.

I lied, I teared up when Gyro died.
>>
>>151780962
it isn't normal, anon

>read Part 8
>annoying and dull, everyone is saying it's good but so far it's garbage
>get to paper moon
>it gets worse
When the fuck does this part start getting better
>>
>>151782742
Right after Paper Moon actually, the architect is the first proper antagonist and introduces the main group of antagonists and it escalates from there. When people are talking about how good 8 is they mean the last 3 years worth of stuff, the first 2 years were admittedly kind of boring but needed to set up for the good stuff. Kind of like SBR but slower paced.

>being an anime only at the time
>watch the big jojo remix with the "arigato Gyro" part
>already knew who Gyro is and realise that another Zepelly died
>feel really bad and tear up
>finally caugth up, read the part and not a single tier
I think it was mostly because I already cried for it
Still, sbr is great
>>
>>151780962
I cried too. When they lost all their cash + the corpse part and when you know who died. I don't know, it just got me.
>>
>>151783461
>the part where they give up the cash and corpse

I cried when they shared the drink in the street after that. I even got upset at Diego's death
>>
diego did nothing wrong
>>
>>151783668
At least Diego died thinking he had killed Valentine but too bad Valentine just came back without any problems.
>>
>>151780962
Is SBR the peak of JoJo? How will Araki ever top this?

Part 8

he can't

>toppable

kek
>>
>when danny shows up during the valentine fight
>gyro's death
>johnny's father cheering for his son in the end
fuck sbr it doesn't have any right to be this good
>>
>>151784125
why is SBR the best piece of manga ever conceived? it works in design, writing and characters. it's a damn masterpiece.
>>
>>151784072
How long until Hollywood makes a movie about SBR starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson as the third Shanghai Noon?
>>
>>151784569
hopefully an hour
>>
>>151784017
Part 8 hasn't hit quite the same highs but has been far more consistent and is getting close to the climax, so he might just manage it if he doesn't drop the ball after this coming zombie arc.
>>
>>151784157
The main characters get a lto fo development but characters like Pocoloco, Sandman and Hot Pants among others are unceremoniously dropped and never built on whch is a shame because they had a lot of potential and SBR COULD have been that great if not for a few issues like that.
>>
>>151784954
Why did Araki drop Soundman and Pocoloco after introducing them before the actual MCs?
>>
>>151784954
i totally get what you're saying and i'm inclined to agree. i still just think it's fucking amazing.
>>
>>151784969
We've never gotten a reason but I feel like it's because he underestimated how much time it would take to write SBR the way he wanted and he wasn't committed to writing the same manga for 10 years so he dropped a lot of noncritical elements in the lead up to the train fight which he knew was gonna run for like 2 years straight if he wanted to do it right. Even then Hot Pants and Diego die halfway through that with no resolution to their character arcs and it becomes all about Johnny, Gyro, Lucy and Valentine. It's kind of unfortunate, I really would have liked to see what Pocoloco and Sandman were originally planned to do and what Diego and Hot Pants were going to end up doing if he didn't always intend them to die so anticlimactically (I doubt he wanted them to die like that originally, Hot Pants had a lot of potential for a great redemption arc and it just sort of stops so suddenly and without any grace and feels really awkward), though Diego at least got a cool death scene even if it was implemented kind of haphazardly.

Can we call the part 1 - 6 universe the shonenverse and the new 7 - 8 universe as seinenverse?
>>
Quentin Tarantino could make a good SBR Movie
>>
>>151785046
no. go the fuck away.

>>151785048
i feel like it would lack the emotion during the sad parts though
>>
>>151785005
I'm not saying it's not amazing I'm just saying it could have been so much better too. I genuinely think Araki gets better with each Part and 8 looks like it could top 7 if he doesn't fuck up the next couple of arcs.
>>
>>151785046
Nah people just call them the original universe and the SBRverse because that describes the content rather than the demographic. Also Part 7 was shonen for the first 6 months of it's run.
>>
>>151785033
That's a shame, I think Johnny, Gyro, Lucy and Valentine made up for it enough though
>>
>>151785066
i feel you, but i personally think part 8 isn't american enough

>inb4 gappy makes me happy
>>
>>151785048
Probably not. Even though Tarantion does a lot of stuff in the same genre they're completely different tonally and Araki and Tarantino have clashing styles. The kind of messages they try and get across in their work are pretty different too. Tarantino has mad aesthetic but as he's gotten older he's running out of gas and the stuff he makes doesn't even compare to his older stuff whereas Araki just gets better with age.

ENOUGH
>>
>>151785102
I mean Araki is Japanese and the American-ness of SBR was mostly Jingoism on Valentine's part and meant to cover up his shadiness by saying it's for a higher cause. Also Jo2uke incites a chemical response within my brain that triggers a mass release of dopamine, resulting in a feeling of extreme joy.

You seem like a particularly unhappy person. Luckily for you, I know of a certain four balled sailor man who knows a thing or two about cutting loose and getting happy; his name is Gappy.

only if you wear a sailor cappy
>>
>>151785279
Would taking Gappy's load increase the chance of twins?
>>
>>151780962
Part 7 was perfect. It was like a shounen battle manga but adapted flawlessly to seinen. Good pacing, good character development, balanced stand abilities, and an antagonist whose goals made sense instead of being evil or insane for no reason.
>>
>>151785310
this, but any of gappy?
>>
>>151785342
Nah, it'd just make determining the father more difficult considering one set sprays Josefumi Juice and the other sprays Kira Kummies. He could technically have twins who are only half related if one comes from the Kira sack and the other from the Josefumi sack.
>>
>>151785353
He was still very evil and self interested, but I liked how the fact that he was helping America fueled his delusion further and made him think all the other shit he was doing was somehow justified by it.

>>151785577
Jobin isn't really villain-y though, but I'd fuck his fear.
>>
>>151785398
That's what I mean. He wasn't evil for the sake of world domination or something crazy. He legitimately thought what he was doing was justified since it would make his country untouchable by misfortune. He was mostly right and operated selflessly.
>>
>>151785634
He operated selfelssly but there was definitely an element of selfishness to it since he just wanted to stroke his ego. Ironically he was already a hero to his people since he had a 92% approval rating and even his biggest detractors admitted he was the best presifent they had, but it wasn't enough for him. The moment he started seeking out the rest of the corpse and sacrificing the people he was meant to be protecting to get it is when he lost sight of what was actually important and he became a proper villain, before then he'd done everything right.

Did Araki have to include this
>>
>>151785925
No, it was weird.
>>
>>151785925
The point was that it wasn't the boy himself Gyro was that worked up about, though he did care about him, but it was the idea of having to execute a clearly innocent kid and Gyro's actions eventually led to the abolishment of the death sentence in Naples. The line was meant to be funny and also reinforce the idea that it wasn't the kid that was important, but the ethics of the whole thing. Could have been done better but it gave me a stupid giggle because of how out of left field it was.
>>
What were some fake spoilers you got while reading JoJo for the first time anons? A couple years back when I read Part 7 for the first time someone told me what Valentine's power was before I reached that part and that he was an AU version of Kars, so I kept waiting all throughout the train fight for him to disappear with D4C then pop back out as a frozen bird man and attack them again but it never happened. In hindsight it was fucking stupid and I don't know how I fell for it, but it was funny at least.
