Steel Ball Run made me cry. Is this normal? Also, SBRverse jojo thread

You can cry at anything if it touches you. I don't cry from fiction because I'm a cold hearted piece of shit but if it affected you that much then it did it's job. SBR had some pretty emotional moments towards the end, despite it's shortcomings.

I didn't cry from SBR, but I got really emotionally invested into it. Everything from the Civil War arc on was an emotional rollercoaster.

Right after Paper Moon actually, the architect is the first proper antagonist and introduces the main group of antagonists and it escalates from there. When people are talking about how good 8 is they mean the last 3 years worth of stuff, the first 2 years were admittedly kind of boring but needed to set up for the good stuff. Kind of like SBR but slower paced.

Part 8 hasn't hit quite the same highs but has been far more consistent and is getting close to the climax, so he might just manage it if he doesn't drop the ball after this coming zombie arc.

The main characters get a lto fo development but characters like Pocoloco, Sandman and Hot Pants among others are unceremoniously dropped and never built on whch is a shame because they had a lot of potential and SBR COULD have been that great if not for a few issues like that.

We've never gotten a reason but I feel like it's because he underestimated how much time it would take to write SBR the way he wanted and he wasn't committed to writing the same manga for 10 years so he dropped a lot of noncritical elements in the lead up to the train fight which he knew was gonna run for like 2 years straight if he wanted to do it right. Even then Hot Pants and Diego die halfway through that with no resolution to their character arcs and it becomes all about Johnny, Gyro, Lucy and Valentine. It's kind of unfortunate, I really would have liked to see what Pocoloco and Sandman were originally planned to do and what Diego and Hot Pants were going to end up doing if he didn't always intend them to die so anticlimactically (I doubt he wanted them to die like that originally, Hot Pants had a lot of potential for a great redemption arc and it just sort of stops so suddenly and without any grace and feels really awkward), though Diego at least got a cool death scene even if it was implemented kind of haphazardly.

Can we call the part 1 - 6 universe the shonenverse and the new 7 - 8 universe as seinenverse?

Probably not. Even though Tarantion does a lot of stuff in the same genre they're completely different tonally and Araki and Tarantino have clashing styles. The kind of messages they try and get across in their work are pretty different too. Tarantino has mad aesthetic but as he's gotten older he's running out of gas and the stuff he makes doesn't even compare to his older stuff whereas Araki just gets better with age.

Part 7 was perfect. It was like a shounen battle manga but adapted flawlessly to seinen. Good pacing, good character development, balanced stand abilities, and an antagonist whose goals made sense instead of being evil or insane for no reason.

He operated selfelssly but there was definitely an element of selfishness to it since he just wanted to stroke his ego. Ironically he was already a hero to his people since he had a 92% approval rating and even his biggest detractors admitted he was the best presifent they had, but it wasn't enough for him. The moment he started seeking out the rest of the corpse and sacrificing the people he was meant to be protecting to get it is when he lost sight of what was actually important and he became a proper villain, before then he'd done everything right.

The point was that it wasn't the boy himself Gyro was that worked up about, though he did care about him, but it was the idea of having to execute a clearly innocent kid and Gyro's actions eventually led to the abolishment of the death sentence in Naples. The line was meant to be funny and also reinforce the idea that it wasn't the kid that was important, but the ethics of the whole thing. Could have been done better but it gave me a stupid giggle because of how out of left field it was.

What were some fake spoilers you got while reading JoJo for the first time anons? A couple years back when I read Part 7 for the first time someone told me what Valentine's power was before I reached that part and that he was an AU version of Kars, so I kept waiting all throughout the train fight for him to disappear with D4C then pop back out as a frozen bird man and attack them again but it never happened. In hindsight it was fucking stupid and I don't know how I fell for it, but it was funny at least.
