Slayers would never have a proper ending unless Lina died or all the gods and mazoku were gone. And even then, there's gods and mazoku in other dimensions that keep trying to invade the world of Slayers (see Lost Universe).

This is why Slayers could have gone on for 20 more seasons if they wanted. It could have been like Naruto, except with good characters and comedy. But it also would have required a competent staff. Which Revolution didn't have.

I dunno, Slayers always kind of bothered me as far as fantasy goes. It was too prone to anachronisms and Japanisms and couldn't really keep a consistent tone.

Ive tried how many times to get into it but I could never finish more than a season with years in between. The characters are often grating and Lina's schtick especially got tiresome fast.

I think you're just missing the point of what Slayers is supposed to be. This anime represents the golden age of rpg in 90s era, it was different mindset from what we have now.
We enjoyed this anime because of the adventure and lighthearted story it was given, yet it can be serious at the same time when they fought the real enemy. The comedy is the best, I laughed very hard when I watched this anime.
It is predictable, but you are missing the point if you are watching this expecting political drama. This anime is basically black and white, it is simple, yet charming. I know where's the good guy and where's the bad guy. It's like playing Dragon quest, the story is predictable, you know you have to beat the demon king, yet what makes it interesting is the way you do things to get there( by gathering party member, finding treasures, etc).

This is the description of the first two episodes of each season. And not a very food description. Lina not only likes but loves Gourry. Which comes to its apex at the ending of Slayers Next. One of the best endings in anime history. Yet I don't know you could have such a limited view if you watched everything before Slayers Premium.

I get what it was supposed to be and I even adore that sort of thing. Slayers just wasn't good at it because it was too much of the same thing over and over again.

Cliche is fine, I love cliche, cliches exist for a reason but it never elevates them it never does anything with the standard formula and it's too long. It's just an overpowered bitch MC repeating the same jokes for 5 seasons and however many OVAs and movie.

If it came out today it would be deemed guilty of the same LN crap that we shit all over other shows for.

Try wasn't as good as NEXT, but it still had the humor people liked and eventually led to a strong ending.

Revolution on the other hand seemed to lose everything people expected from a Slayers season. The humor felt totally different. The art style was totally different. The drama was literally Star Wars with anthro characters and Lina and co just feel like secondary characters to the events happening around them. Etc.

I explained a long time ago in the thread. Lina is not a typical Tsundere (despite you claiming she is). She loves Gourry, which compes to its apex at the end of Slayers NEXT (which throws your whole cuck theory out the window). Lina eating a lot actually has a tie into the story since her use of magic drains her energy, but its also just funny by itself. She also doesn't get fat by eating a ton so I don't even see why you keep harping on this. And some people like flat girls, even if I don't.

Amelia is my favorite girl. I can just see that Lina is good too. And your comments make no sense for anyone who has seen the majority of the show. Hell, even just seeing one whole season a person could see Lina isn't what you describe.

The problem is that the people behind the anime want to have their cake and eat it too.

They'll never progress through the plot of the novels because Zelgadis and Amelia leave the party, but they won't just change up the plot because they didn't want to diverge too far from the novel plot.

So what we have now is 3 filler seasons, and any future seasons will also be filler seasons.

Considering that the original novel is a slice of life harem with mystery elements where Oreki have to help to solve mysteries while he is introduced to multiple heroines thanks to these mysteries and her sister, and kyoani pretty much changed a lot of the plot, reduced the screentime of the heroines or just simply ignored them for the sake of having romantic implications with Chitanda when that is almost no present in the novel... unless they pull off their ass more original content you won't want to see how a new kouhai and other girls get helped by Oreki ruining your anime original shipping...
This scene was one of the few things they kept from the original when Oreki realizes he is in the position of a generic harem mc being the nice guy who help all the girls.

They were adapted from the novels, but so much was changed that they're barely even the same arcs. The only difference between this and a normal filler arc is that now if they ever want to actually adapt the original arcs, they'd need to completely retcon these two seasons. I'll be honest, I think Try was better overall than the first season. The series didn't really hit it's stride until a little after the start of the Copy Rezzo arc, and the characterization was a little off compared to late in the season and later seasons. That said, the best parts of the first season absolutely shit on the best parts of Try, I just think the worst parts of the first season far outweigh everything wrong with Try.

Lina casted the Giga Slave which, in combination with her talismans and her 'will', didn't draw power from Lord of Nightmares but actually summoned it. The Lord of Nightmares took over her body as a vessel to give her substance. As a result, Linas soul was absorbed and only her body remained (holding the Lord of Nightmares). Which is a complicated way of saying Lina died.

Lord of Nightmares then revived Lina after Gourry showed his love for her.

Yes and no. Giga Slave inherently summons Lord of Nightmares due to the spell's very nature. It wouldn't matter if the spell was successful or not, as LoN herself states, her mind is her power, her power is her mind.

Lina didn't fuck up the spell, what caused the possession was Phibrizzo messing with the casting and trying to kill Lina with it.

Cmon it wasnt even that bad. Sure there were some plotholes like Zuma and it didnt measure up to the earlier seasons, but there were still some enjoyable moments on those seasons. The production team sucked for it too.
What really needs to happen is a faithful adaption of the LN. Amelia and Zel might not have a big of an appearance in them but there are some pretty darkish moments in them which people will eat up. If they gather a good team they could pull off a good comeback and provide some needed competition right now.

The LNs for sure if you want the whole experience. There is a manga adaption of volumes 1-8 (Equivalent to the first two seasons of the show), though it changes some things (IE Runeblast shows up). As far as manga goes read Falces after the LNs, then read the manga version and Aqualord eventually.

Doing a real adaption of the LNs would be hard though. They would need a lot in the way of episodes if they were to cover the first half of the series again. If they wanted to just say that it continues from Next they would need to take the time to explain a bunch of concepts that aren't covered in the anime, like priests and generals other than Zellos existing and Ragnut Rushava.

The first time Lina used the Giga Slave, it just called on her power but didn't summon her. Its implied by the story that she got lucky. But they emphasize that if she didn't get lucky and lost control of the spell, it would trigger the end of the world. Not explaining what that was.

In NEXT, we figure out what that is. Because if you don't get 'lucky', then using the spell actually summons the LON itself. Which, depending on her whims at the time, can cause the total destruction of everything. It is once again implied (but not definitively stated) that Hellmaster interrupting the spell actually caused another lucky event. The LON was summoned (as Hellmaster wanted). But she did not get summoned fully and got trapped in Lina's body (which is not what he wanted, he wanted her to be ). That's where it becomes fuzzy however. Based on her whole power of the mind speech, it makes me think that the part that was summoned was the LON 'will' or mental power. Not her physical form. Which took over Lina's body and overtaking her soul. Though it could also be that her entire physical form is her will. That's really not explained.

Either way, LON decides to destroy Hellmaster, revive Lina and spare the world, which also is not explained. It almost seems like she decides to spare the world just to spite Hellmaster. And that she dislikes the mazoku agenda. Which makes you wonder if the LON really did give the mazoku the desire to destroy everything. They attribute it to her, but she goes directly against it in NEXT.

The LNs hashed it pretty differently. Lina only drew enough power to destroy the universe and all that when she was able to complete the spell AFTER learning LoN's full title, which Phibrizzo was able to lead her to. If she had just stuck to the incomplete version Hellmaster would have been fine (He survives several shots of it earlier on). If she still had the sword of light to enhance the incomplete version then Hellmaster would have died but there wouldn't have been a risk involved. The incomplete version actually isn't that dangerous.

Hellmaster only died because of his lack of research. He tricked Lina into eating part of him, and then attacked her from within without realizing that she was possesed. LoN only attacked him because she was pissed off at being attacked, and as a result didn't have enough energy to blow up the universe after killing him. It is more or less stated later on that Sabranigdo wouldn't have made the same mistake as he actually would have known what he was doing. Gourry's love wasn't a factor.

That's not really how it went down in the anime. The first time she cast Giga Slave she didn't know the complete spell and used the Sword of Light to do it as well. She didn't get "lucky", she just didn't fuck it up. When she uses it against Phibrizzo she does know the complete spell so it's more powerful, but she loses control because he attacks her while she's casting. Phibrizzo hopes this will kill Lina and destroy the world, but what happens instead is that LoN possesses Lina. Neither of them knew what would happen if the spell got fucked up and both had the expectation that it would just destroy the world, instead of getting the caster possessed by the actual LoN.

Slayers Special is a seperate series, so yes. Only the first volume (Out of thirty) has ever been completely translated though, so unless you known nihongo (Slayers isn't a complicated work of literature, so it isn't that hard to read) you are out of luck. The Slayers Special manga sort of covers a few chapters.

I do like how it actually does tie into the main series and help make the setting much more consistent than it is in the anime though. Sadly Cammy and Mina never make an appearance in the anime.

I read the first novel not long ago. Lina's narration is interesting, but the plot is so bad, not to mention Kanzaka wrote himself into the corner by killing the main demon right off the bat and had to find ways out of it in subsequent volumes.
