Because Devilman is nearly 40 years old at this point and was never liked because of quality or writing. It was just edgy shit and low brow entertainment with a side of gore.

A lot of it is awful and contrived, but that doesn't detract from the fact some of his ideas and designs were pretty inspired.

You're pretty much describing the bulk of manga.

I read Devilman in my teen and I loved it, but it's pretty clear now that Devilman isn't any better or more awful than the manga made today.

Truth of the matter is, nips can't write for shit. I've tried reading all the shit that /a/ is into these days and they all suck hard. Even the ones that attempted to be philosophical and meaningful were actually pretty simplistic and contrived.

TLDR: Manga sucks, and the only reason you'll read them is for entertainment value. Manchildren like yourselves will never get over it. Hopefully I did, and I am now enjoying much better literature that will advance the human condition.
