The man in charge, Salt's dad, gets mindfucked when he tries to test his machine (this machine supposedly places people entering PI near the user's mind-gate-thing like the one in Iroha's PI). He goes insane and obsesses over PI and sees Mimi as a goddess, so the KKK is created as a cult with the sole purpose of breaking down the barrier that separates PI from reality (EvilMimi was sort of achieving this in the final episodes).
Salt was probably trying to bring Mimi back using the collected fragments, but when EvilMimi appeared his new goal was to stop her from taking Cocona away.

Sort of. I think the KKK believes that PI acts like a dream in that you can do whatever you want. Considering that changing some stuff in PI affects the real world, they might have wanted a world that was controllable by humans. PI seems to be heavily based off the idea of the collective unconscious. Basically, its a mixed amalgamation of everyones inner, psychic worlds. That said, the different individual 'worlds' of PI seem to relate to specific people. At the same time, it seems more fluid than simply "1 world = 1 person".

DPI is directly related to a single persons mind however. Normal PI is a layer above, and is more of a mixture of everyones unconscious, but is possibly influenced most by whoevers DPI is closest to it.

Mimi is just really special and has tons of natural control over PI.

To be fair, Ikuhara is a lot better when he's got limitations placed on him.
Giving him free reign gets you MPD and YKA, both of which have their own strengths, but are nowhere near as good as Utena was.

Hell, Utena was amazing not because of Ikuni alone, but because of Be-Papas.

It establishes that Papika and Cocona were childhood friends, and Yayaka can get fucked. It also hints at how the two fell out of PI in the first place. I guess their impedance was too high, so they got split up when the travelled to the real world. Papika ended up with her old friend Salt, and Cocona wound up in KKK hands.

That was happening before the show took place, when they were both really young. She probably wasn't in PI or a tree cage in the actual event, but Cocona might have met her when she was snooping around the lab with Yayaka.
She forgot about it because she was young, and it might actually explain why they had a "moment" when they first locked eyes.

She didn't. The klan captured her as a toddler alongside Papika, then regressed Papika's age.

Oh, I've long felt the same. MPD and YKA, especially MPD, felt like an overconcentrated distillation of his visual and thematic tricks that were much more sparingly applied in Utena.

But let's not pretend the man doesn't fucking love lesbians. Hell, consider the fact that two of the three breakout late 90s/early 00 phenomenons that gave birth to modern yuri were Sailor Moon (by which I mean Haruka and Michiru in S), Utena, and Maria-sama ga Miteru. Ikuhara is largely responsible for two of those. He's literally the father of modern yuri as we know it.

We don't know what Cocona, Papika, Yayaka, Salt, Hidaka, Sayuri, Toto, Yuyu, or Nyunyu plan to do in the future, most of them don't have homes or jobs, and many of them have their only purpose in life removed. As characters they've only introduced problems by not fleshing them out and then the show drops any pretense of caring and doesn't have them interact again.

Pick your favorite show. Imagine they blew up the house in the final episode and then everyone just went to school like nothing had happened and we never see a solution. And then people go online and say it was a proper happy ending and everything was resolved. That's how stupid you look.
