Fucking awful ending.
Shit taste, shit thread starter.
>we truly were the Flip Flappers
Where were you when the power of yuri saved the universe?
As someone who really disliked episodes 11 and 12, 13 redeemed the show in many ways.
It was not a particularly great or inspired ending, but it was an ending. The staff ran into speed bumps along the way, but damn if they didn't do their damnedest to turn things around. Major props to them and their efforts.
what was going through Yayaka's head at this moment?
Please don't go. We can talk about this.
Would recommend to confiused lesbian teenagers.
Think it is because the story arc did not make a whole lot of sense without watchin 11,12 and 13 together. Watching it per week may have colored your judgement of episodes 11 and 12 without 13.
For the people that preferred the first half over the second (or everything prior to the final arc) but still enjoyed the last episode, did you lower your expectations for the finale or did you go in with the same mindset as the rest of the series? My expectations were lowered considerably and I had a blast with the ending, even if it didn't go exactly as I would have liked.
>Homura stop, you're breaking me apart!
You're like a baby.
One might be useless, but a hundred can achieve a lot.
Did we even have postcard anon submissions that can be said to truly stand on it's own?
The idea of having a conglomerate of people showing their love in a coordinated manner, contributing willingly even with their lack of drawing talent does sound more endearing.
>tfw you see a bright future and you're not in it
why? the show may feature yuri but it has nothing to do with the "struggle" to be cute lesbian girls in the west. Yes I know the author is dead but I find that interpretation to be reaching
So after rewatching all 13 episodes, I just can't pinpoint this character's role. Nothing was explained.
>never goes to class, has ugly pale skin
>hangs around a mad cult and emotionless twins
>really useless at gathering amorphous
>may or may not be straight
>dresses up in fetish costumes
What the fuck is this character? Who is her girlfriend supposed to be?
Its a bit different for me, because I loved episode 9 and episode 11, but felt that episode 10 and 12 were a bit lacking in comparison, but still good. I loved Episode 13 though, even though it didn't end the way I would have wanted. The more I step back and think about it, the more I like it though. It really left a solid impression on me. It made me feel things I haven't felt before, and some anons in previous threads mentioned something similar.
I never lowered my expectations however. It wasn't exactly what I wanted or expected, but I still left satisfied and happy, and full of feelings. I just want more Flip Flappers. I want more Cocona and Papika. I want to see that dorky, lovable couple do happy things together, and maybe kiss. I would also like to see Salt try and be a dad.
Personally liked every episode really. It's a roller coaster ride from start to finish.
Watched it weekly since the start then just before the final episode I watched them all as a marathon before watching the episode 13.
The whole show flows really well since information you may have forgotten with a weekly watch is not present in a marathon since the information is nearby in your mind.
fuck, i would never have imagined someone would be able to infiltrate us so easily
There have been a lot of good drawings so far. Especially the one with all three girls transformed or futanon's cropped mid-air kiss one.
>Who is her girlfriend supposed to be?
Don't listen to the other guys, it's this one.
Series best focus was papicoco or yyk getting cucked. 11 and 12 changed that for the sake of exposition. Understandable though.
THE RABBIT WAS A CONSOLATION PRIZE?!
I personally enjoyed the first half more than the second but I still had a lot of fun with 7 and on. There were loose ends here and there but my focus was entirely on Papika and Cocona, so like you said, it left me satisfied and happy too. After the discussion of a what-if OVA from the previous threads, I really want to see Salt trying to involve himself more in Cocona's life and generally more of Papika and Cocona having fun adventures.
The stream marathon the night before the livestream was nice. Aside from the memes exploding in chat, it was nice rewatching and refreshing everything from the series.
would you say its in your top 10
of all time?
I think it might be in mine, I need some more distance from it, because the I am still really attached to it because it was just finished, but currently it feels like it might be my third or fourth favorite anime of all time.
>I really want to see Salt trying to involve himself more in Cocona's life and generally more of Papika and Cocona having fun adventures.
Salt moved from an absent father to one involved in the life of his child. Mimi moved from a mother who was two involved to one who has learned to keep her distance. Between the two they have found balance.
Salt will naturally be more involved now, when he and Sayuri are not playing with his little salt shaker
OH SHIT IT'S HAPPENING!
Thank you a lot dear anon!
Cocona and Papika will go to school like normal during the day, and that's when Yayaka sneaks into their room and brings him into PI to fuck like rabbits. Cocona and Papika know it's happening but they pity her and pretend they don't know.
I'm really gonna miss this show.
This was supposed to come across like a cartoon villain right?
I can't wait to see their reaction!
>Mine is in there
Thank you so much!
It looks great, thanks again for putting it together.
And thanks to the rest of you lads for making these threads so great. Keep on Flip Flapping.
Absolutely based. Thank you, Card-anon.
I hope sensei will notice us.
If Uexküll is best boy, does that mean /our gal/ got a happy ending?
>dat tiny Yayaka
Will the bullying ever stop, comp/a/dre?
One day she'll find the right girl to flip flap with. A shame she never met Senpai and Yuyu tried to kill her.
>Fig. an entertaining and clever person who says or does funny things
I should be an animator for 3Hz.
Mimi trapped Papika in PI.
After a while, Cocona started to visit her.
Cocona is wearing a nighty, probably she always thought she was dreaming.
Cocona released Papika because of the shard in her leg.
When Cocona stopped coming, because somehow KKK got a hold of her, Papika went looking for her and found Salt.
Where baby Cocona was while Papika was trapped is a mystery.
Mimi gave Papika the baby, but they got caught in the explosion of Mimi. That still does not explain how they got separated.
Jesus Christ, no. If this plays anywhere near the depression block, it's going to remind everyone that there's no more Flip Flappers and they'll kill themselves.
>See you in Pure Illusion!
This show could reach a larger audience without all the unecessary fanservice and skimpy clothing
If you don't love the fanservice you were never the intended audience in the first place.
Imagine how he must have felt when Cocona showed up as Papika's new partner.
>Director-san wakes up
>sees card, comes to /a/
>"Fucking awful ending".
I'm really glad that I managed to get my card in there. Yesterday I went to sleep thinking that I would have a lot of time to make the card. Then I overslept and had only about 30 minutes to draw and 15 minutes to scan, edit and send it.
Thank you for giving us a chance to make this.
>Hey, Papika, did you ever try to enter Pure Illusion with anyone else before me?
Same for me except I had ten minutes so had literally no time to do anything. Usually when I do mspaint stuff I take an hour or two to draw whatever.
Part of me is glad mine got added to it, the other part of me is pissed at myself that I didn't set aside the time I should have earlier to actually make something worthwhile. But overall I am glad it was done and that I was a shitty part of it.
Cocona and Papika met as babyxadult, then babyxbaba, then babyxbaby, then as teenagers. With so much mimi fuckery what matters is that they are in love now, period. Think of them as star crossed lovers.
Made me think of this.
Mimi = Ophelia?
>surge in popularity (on /a/) during the airing
>everyone having fun
>suddenly not allowed to like show
I don't give a fuck, nigga. I enjoyed Flip Flappers and the threads immensely, no faggot complaining about my horrible taste is going to change that. This happened with TTGL and tons of shows after, it doesn't have to affect your personal experience unless you let it.
Nigga guess what.
So is it pretty much confirmed that Papika and friends killed some random girl in the beginning by trying to find a suitable partner for Papika to enter PI with? Are we gonna pretend Papika isn't a cold blooded murderer?
Also this, because of the trees.
Does this look like the face of a cold-blooded murderer?
Papika isn't accountable for her actions, look at her
nah, its just as likely that the girl at the beginning was Papika, passed out from being unable to go to PI on her own. After all, the girl at the start is wearing the same clothes as Papika, has the anklet, and while the lighting makes it tough to discern the color, hair shape resembles Papika hair by a fair bit.
T-technically it isn't her fault AB-chan died, though...
Can someone now compile a visual list of a the Thomassons in eps. 1 through 13?
Or 1 through 9 assuming NyuNyu counts for the last 4 eps.
>Is it supposed to imply that she aged backwards in Pure Illusion
She aged backwards when she was first thrown into Pure Illusion after Mimi burst into treats. Probably a side effect of the PI world, not unlike how that one world turned them into rabbit girls.
>that this whole time they were in Pure Illusion even in the finale?
They have been in pure illusion ever since they flew into that hole at the end of Episode 11. Cocona has been in pure illusion since her mom possessed her body at the end of 10.
In 10 years or so everyone will remember the Mimi incident and laugh about it.
>all those people that said she was ruined and worthless now
Nice. Thanks for the hard work cardanon.
Flip Flap ED album has been converted and upload to r/a/dio, anyone have a link to the OP?
every show, game, book, ect could be so much more, because nothing is perfect, and everything has flaws. Understanding and accepting this fact is just another part of growing up.
Great job card/a/non and all the Flip-anons that submitted an image
Today we're making /a/'s history
At the beginning of the show, Papika escapes and they show a body
That never happened, anyways you should delete this
she even drew a paint for Cocona
She got over her past, it's not like they went into her DPI and wreaked havoc. There was still a consequence on her personality. Salt's dad got bungled by their actions.
I'm expecting Over the Rainbow, Serendipity and FLIP FLAP FLIP FLAP tomorrow night. Hopefully it doesn't kill anyone.
It is papika. Its a 2 second flashback meant to show you what she is talking about. No one else wears this outfit but Papika. Hair color looks off because of the lighting- when you manually oversaturate the colors, you see red in the hair, not blue.
Why is Yayaka in cram school?
Brilliant conclusion to the story. Did everything it needed to. Interesting build-up, exciting climax, wrapped up the important loose ends. The only real issue with any of that part was the execution of the telling of it in places.
Sure, it's fine to accept that nothing will be perfect. For me, however, the show's quality tanked after episode 10, barely picking itself back up for a dignified final episode.
Outside factors fucked the production of this show more than anything else. It saddens me when a show doesn't live up to expectations, but when a show is forced to give up on reaching the heights it was perfectly capable of achieving, all due to shit scheduling, that fucking pisses me off.
Damn I'm gonna miss these threads
Stopped reading right there.
Episode 11 was my favorite episode, 10 and 12 were the only disapointments for me, but only barely and relatively so- 10 and 12 were like 8/10 episodes in a show that had nothing but 9 and 10/10 episodes.
In the grand scheme of things, it makes nitpicking so hard about how it could be 'so much better' just feel pathetic.
>five off a perfect square
DAMN YOU ANONS
YOU BLEW IT ALL UP
Finally got back from my thing.
This is perfect.
None of the individual episodes were bad, it's just the overall storyline was bad (and it was there from the beginning) or too convoluted for a 1-cour show and what they decided to use screentime for.
>It didn't match what I wanted so it's bad
Every thread since episode 7.
>Ara, Papika, are you just going to sit there and do nothing?
You know, it's only 6 AM in Japan and I doubt the director or anyone besides those that have liked/retweeted it have seen it.
If you or cardanon really wanted, you could probably squeeze in a few more cards if they were made.
>None of the individual episodes were bad
>it's just the overall storyline was bad
Yes, and episodes 10-13 put the greatest focus on it. Do the math.
>or too convoluted for a 1-cour show
It probably isn't, but thanks to Oshiyama's shit directing it does seem like it.
It isn't pathetic to criticize a show you like, anon. I love Flip Flappers and the staff that created it, but I also respect it enough to identify its (sometimes very clear) faults and still hold it in high regard. Much of the show stands up to considerable scrutiny. These were very capable people working on an ambitious project. I give them major props for doing as well as they did.
But yeah, nothing is perfect.
People would just be complaining nothing made sense without the explanations in the backstory.
>2 episodes worth of time in flashbacks
You mean like 4 minutes one episode and 2 minutes in another?
yeah, but it also didnt really have enough to stretch out a full 2nd cour either. Pick your poison bro. We either would have over stuffed episodes trying to rush through too much like we have now, or boring episodes trying to stretch out what is ultimately too little and feel like filler.
I prefer what we got out of those 2 choices.
There is nothing wrong with giving Yayaka screentime after they focused 8 fucking episodes on Cocona and Papika.
Flashbacks were not 2 episodes long? Or do you mean they should've been that long? Because that would be terrible.
They did. Complaints early on were that it wasn't explaining enough and had no plot, then when the plot starts and they explain things the complaint becomes too much plot and too much explaining. You can't win.
They could have easily worked more of the actual plot in earlier.
>It isn't pathetic to criticize a show you like, anon.
I agree, I have criticized it before as well. Don't misunderstand me- I am not saying don't criticize, I am saying drop the hyperbole and "oh this could have been sooo much better" nonsense.
>Much of the show stands up to considerable scrutiny.
This statement of mine is probably going to get torn up and marked but: Most art does.
People were complaining before episode 7 too.
>meh episodic shit
>where is the plot?
And after episode 9
>I miss the episodic adventures
>fuck the plot
have we finally reached the point where people don't know moot or is this a fucking troll.
I can't tell anymore, save me from this hell Papika
The fight was QUALITY tier and Mimi sporting a crocodile head was stupid. I'm actually surprised they didn't turn her into a spider or made her henshin a spider form: the gimmick to the whole flip flapping thing was butterflies so a spider being the villain would have fit the theme. It would have also played with how Mimi has trapped Cocona and Papika in her web (PI, or her over-protectiveness) and both are struggling to break free.
Flip Flap threads have always been a back and forth between plotfags and episodic adventurefags.
I know it may be hard for you imagine this, but some people actually did find the plot that developed to be not interesting, and ultimately a let down on the way the first half of the show captured the imagination.
So, um, why is nobody talking about this?
>They could have easily worked more of the actual plot in earlier.
I not sure about that. For me the perfect scenario would have been either of the following:
>Expand fun adventures to be the entire cour, then announce a movie- the movie would handle Episode 9-13 arc.
>The show would be about a cour and a half, with around 18-20 episodes at the most. Make the episode 10-13 into 6 episodes instead of 3, and add an epilogue episode.
>The show would be about a cour and a half, with around 18-20 episodes at the most. Make the episode 10-13 into 6 episodes instead of 3, and add an epilogue episode.
This would have been far, FAR better than what we've got.
>Who is her girlfriend supposed to be?
>Flip Flappers is now dead theme
>drop the hyperbole and "oh this could have been sooo much better" nonsense.
I'm not saying it as hyperbole. There is a noticeable drop in animation quality from 11 onwards, only returning in 13. I'm not saying they didn't try, either. I was expressing my disappointment that the staff was not allowed to flourish due to outside forces. In this sense, yes, FliFla was perfectly capable of being at least visually better than it was.
One thing I definitely learned from /flipflap/ is that there is a problem with baiting. There is a lack of effort nowadays and it all just ends up resorting to spamming and being intentionally obtuse. What a shame.
Ah, well excuse me then. I thought you were talking about script and story, not animation. The BDs should fix it. Also, looking at 3hz history, every single one of their past projects included an OVA in the final BD release.
REminder that her struggle resulted in nothing. Not even winning, I mean she never even conveyed to Cocona how important to her she was. She never even reached the part where she could have been rejected.
>There is nothing wrong with giving Yayaka screentime
See above, I don't see what was accomplished with making Yayaka so cool (and admittedly very likeable).
Well, the script could definitely use some touching-up in some places, too. Like the awkward exposition in the extended flashbacks with Salt and Mimi. I wouldn't be averse to some kind of Director's Cut version with extra scenes to help round out their relationship a bit.
>We have truly become the Flip Flappers!
Well, I guess this is it then isn't it? Despite everything, it was a lot of fun, thanks for the memories guys, let's go on an adventure in a Pure Illusion again!
I think the salt and mimi stuff was fine, it was actually my favorite parts of those episodes. I think more time needed to be spent on Papika in these last 4 episodes than what we got though.
Other than that, the only complaint I have of any real substance is the last 3 minutes of episode 12. There needed to be a bit more in those final few minutes to make it really hit home.
Yeah, compared to cocopapi it felt bland as fuck.
Episode 12 had some of the best animation in the entire series. If you think otherwise you are just wrong. The only real problem in 12 was a couple of moments of QUALITY and one unfinished scene. Episode 13 was pretty ragged though and really needs some work.
Hand Shakers seems focused around fanservice rather than just incidentally having it ever now and then so is probably garbage. No staff with any talent working on it either and CGI animation. LWA is the most obvious interesting from a production standpoint next season but its never going to have deep speculation and nice threads like Flip Flappers.
Hand Shakers might be entertaining but it's not going to be another Flip Flappers. It's more than the visuals that made the series enjoyable and it looks like they're playing it straight with Hand Shakers.
If it's anything like K, the threads will be fun once the incessant complaints about the filters dies out.
She clearly raped Kyubey's collective anus.
Too little too late, though I feel that is how much of the series was.
>lets not explain everything calmly to Cocona the day we meet
>surprised when she throws a fit about being lied to and used
Just one of those 'there'd be no story if someone cleared up the misunderstanding'.
The series was planned from the start before the writer change. The new writer was brought in because the original writer wasn't delivering making the schedule.
I quit this place fairly easy to be honest. Did it for like 2008-2010 without even caring.
I'm marathoning this and Pandora. Hope there's another similar series soon so I can have a trilogy of dorky lesbians.
These uniforms look way better than the normal ones.
There'd be no story if Salt wore a condom when he was fucking his test subjects.
