Hello everyone, Census-kun here. Sorry about missing yesterday! But no worries, I have a poll up just for you guys!

That is what I want to say, but I see some kind anon did my duty for me yesterday and made sure a poll was put up in my absence, thank you anon! So instead of a poll, I am going to share my final thoughts on Flip Flappers. I voted for it being a Masterpiece, and I honestly believe it is so. It is not a Masterpiece necessarily in terms of how the word is commonly used (as a substitute for GOAT), although some do indeed see it as a GOAT. No, it is a Masterpiece in the original sense of the word, the actual definition of the word “Masterpiece.”

Flip Flappers fits both of these- it is both Oshiyama’s best work, and it is a work of outstanding artistry, skill, and workmanship.

More than any of that though, Flip Flappers really touched me- I read in one of the previous threads about how some anons had a warm, strange feeling in their hearts after finishing the show. That feeling is mutual. Flip Flappers has the ability to touch your heart and make you feel something big- without resorting to invoking sadness. That is something special that I do not think should be overlooked. I love love LOVE Flip Flappers, and I am glad I got to experience it with you all.

Man I was really worried after how poorly 11 and 12 went, but I think they did a pretty good job with the finale. It was a bit corny though and I think some parts were confusing. I still don't think having dark Mimi as the final boss was a good idea. Ultimately the last three episodes had way to much unnecessary plot and they could have gotten away with something bit simpler.

Overall I'm glad flip Flappers exists and that I watched it. It's definitely left the strongest impression on me out of everything I've watched this year.

Kissu would've made this series a legit masterpiece, not because of yuri but because it's relatively rare for any sort of pairing in even an original work to get a kissu, and Cocona and Papika are already built up so well.

I liked that one anon who said Flip Flappers isn't yuri, it just has romance as an element, and that's part of what makes it so special.

Anyway, as is even with all of the flaws, dropped plot points, and a generally messy second half, still a hugely solid 8 or 9/10 just because it's so damn likeable and fun. CCN, PPK and YYK are some of the best characters to be in an original work in a super long time.

Mimi works as the antagonist because the story is ultimately about Cocona growing up and her family dealing with that situation. Its not a show about Cocona fighting the bad guy, its family drama.

When you really think about it Mimi was never even that bad to begin with, she was just being an overprotective mother. She just needed to reconnect with Salt, balance the paternal and maternal, and learn to let her daughter be her own women.

Its a cute little story about love and family in the end, that is why it works so well.

Actually I mean Deep PI. Which wasn't exactly 'dropped', it went on something, but it really only went on one specific thing to explain the backstory of Asclepius (and I guess to show that PI has layers).

But I feel like it was underutilized and could've been used instead to help with telling Mimi backstory or something. It was a really cool concept.

In the end, everything that absolutely NEEDS an answer is answered, but I still wish we got a few more concrete details to round it out.

Also an OVA with an epilogue showing the characters adjusting to their new developments (specifically Cocona and her parents) would be really nice. Cocona still doesn't even know that Salt is her dad, right?

It was, DPI was used to demonstrate that people have multiple sides and that a single event can cause someone to "switch" or change. All of episode 6 was actually very clever set up and showing, not telling, of how the mechanics of GoodMimi and EvilMimi worked, how they are just different facets of the same person, brought out and exaggerated by PI and DPI.

The scene with the room with the apple and the collapsing walls was Mimi's DPI. That's why Dark Mimi was there and Mimi's personality changed as a result of switching with her, it was like Iroha's and Saltdad's personalities being changed by meddling in their DPIs. Same with young Salt's offer to switch with Salt at the very end. Or at least, that's how I interpreted it.

I can see that, sure, but I still think Cocona and Papika going into deep PI specifically could've been used more. Episode 6 was done really well, and it was a super interesting storytelling device to have the characters themselves act out the past.

Yes, I was one of the people who liked the idea of Cocona and Papika going through the Salt and Mimi story by acting it out in DPI. Even though it would be weird from an audience standpoint (and /u/ might be furious, but fuck /u/), it's not like it's any weirder than Papika eating Cocona's placenta like we got in canon.

It would have been interesting to watch but it is largely irrelevant. FliFla was not the story of Salt and Mimi it was the story of Cocona and Papika. There was no need to cover their back story in detail or change it in any way, Salt even rejects the possibility of changing his past with the execution of his shadow.

We would have ended up with a very different story if we went down that road, nothing wrong with that but I like the FliFla as is

Most recently they stole our speculah after episode 10 about freudian imagery, unbirthing and the umbilical cord and claimed it as their own.
