Oh shit, I had already given up hope for a new WTC VN.
Isn't Hotarubi supposed to be related to the WTC series though? I wonder if it'll tie in to the new game or if it'll just be its own standalone thing.

Finally someone with fine taste.
Because she's the hero Rokkenjima deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt her. Because she can take it. Because she's not our hero. She's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Black Witch.
Thanks for the wonderful news, OP. I loved Higurashi and Umineko so much. I hope this one also has eight installments so I can take the whole journey from the beginning.

I poorly translated the tweet. Completely new mystery.
"Yesterday, I heard from the personal that there were a lot of Umineko fans at the comiket booth... For seeing that much people cosplaying our characters even in the middle of the winter, I would like to thank you. The development for the next game from the "when they cry" series is scheduled to start in 2017. It is expected that this game will be completely different compared to "Higurashi" and "Umineko". Will there be red truth and witches?
I very much doubt it, going off of "it will be very different"
So I'm imagining some kind of swerve where perhaps the story can get meta without witches...
>>151602721
I'm hoping it somehow retains the meta aspect in some form. That's one thing I liked very much as apposed to Higurashi.
I just hacked R07 computer and took a peek on the WTC 5 plot:
>the story starts at a winter resort where a bunch of people are enjoying their winter season
>suddenly an avalanche
>everyone dies but 5 people
>since they are trapped and without any signal of hope they, decied to confess their sins to each other, in order to see if they can find some peace in those last moments
>Everyone share their sins and crimes
>everything goes pitchblack
>MC #1 wake up in a hospital bed, realizing he and the other 4 survieved
>Now all of them has to live their lives knowing that someone out there knows about their sins, the sins that they swear take to their graves
You're welcome.
I have been readying my body for years and it's still not ready.
Can't wait to see their new designs
We shall enjoy it together, and whine about it together.
>>151599193
How can "completely different" be interpreted?
Higurashi and Umineko had pretty much the same general idea of 8 arcs with the same story "resetting" each times, but besides that it's still totally different, will the new WTC at least keep this structure?

Anyway, what I want is something different than what he used to work on.
After reading Higanbana, I feel that it was stale and Ryukishi can't escape from the HIgurashi/Umineko shadow.
Will Trianthology ever be translated?
>>151605003
I disagree, I think about 75% of Higanbana's stories were clever and original. But
>pseudo science
Yeah that would be interesting. To jump from exploration of the classic mystery themes and aesthetics to something completely in the opposite direction. I suppose absolutely anything is possible at this point. As long as it's a mystery.

Manga when?
Manga is the best version for both higurashi and umineko.
Wasn't Chiru supposed to get an anime in 2017 or did I dream it?
>>151609299
Chiru was supposed to get an anime years ago, but never did and never will
Going by how long it took R07 from releasing the last chapter of Higurashi to the first chapter of Umineko, we'll probably see the first chapter of this game being released sometime in 2018.
Also, how long on average was the wait for a chapter to be translated? I wasn't here when Umineko was being released.
>>151610190
Can't wait for more "meanwhile at witch hunt"

That doesn't even begin to apply anymore since he abandoned the comiket release schedule, plus EP1 of Umineko was released in the August immediately following Rei anyway.

The house adjacent to mine until very recently had bat nests in the attic, since the people living there have been leaving their attic window open for years.
Four have made it into my house, all during the summer. One turned up in my kitchen, one in the living room, and one in the ceiling of my basement. And everything is sealed except for a tiny ass chimney path which only opens by the heater all the way underground, and is always closed off except for during the winter anyway. Is it time for me to watch Higurashi and Umineko? Are they any good?
>>151615113
>but I can't say space does at all.
Oh really? How about a remote space colony of, say, 2000 people. Everyone has a job to do and then, mysteriously, someone is thrown out of an airlock. No one knows how but it happened. Then there's some conspiracy about old alien artifact and people start freaking out about Gods, similar to Alien. Blur the line between mystery, magic and sci-fi but IN SPAAAACE.
Tell me you wouldn't read that. And Space Detectives. Just that thought alone makes me giggle.

It is better to play the games.
But Higurashi anime was still ok.
And this new installment most likely won't be as good as the previous ones.
First four umineko episodes were awesome with fifth being the peak of the series.
Higurashi was ok over all.
But I think he will finally put and end to this series when he sees that the fan reaction is poor and he is hated.
>>151615449
>But Higurashi anime was still ok.
No, it's not.
>>151615410
The Higurashi anime is maybe 6/10. The Umineko anime is 3/10.
The visual novels are far better to read. You should start with Higurashi and then move on to Umineko. It's not like one is a sequel to the other, but there are elements and references in Umineko that are more enjoyable if you're familiar with Higurashi.
>>151615449
>But Higurashi anime was still ok.
If you ever actually played the games you would never think this.
>>151615481
The Higurashi anime is decent in its horror but fails at everything else to the point where it's not worth watching.

>>151615638
I mean, really, some of the scary scenes are good even though it fucks up the overall answers. Like not showing Tomitake having fun with the gang during the festival, and making Mion and Rena look insane.
The music is also god tier, something you don't see anyone mention anymore because the VN music is godlike as well.

>>151615481
>>151615459
The anime was ok especially compared to the umineko one. Stop shitting on it this badly.
>>151615867
You misunderstand, for every person saying the anime is ok, someone watches it instead of reading the VN, then wonders if he should read the VN afterwards if he knows the twist.
It's just the logical solution. Shit on the anime and tell everyone to stay away from it even though it's decent only because it captures the paranoia horror aspect in the VN.
>>151615867
I'm still mad because it fucked up the whole mion/shion storyline for me.

All this shitposting, can someone please post an actual TL?
>>151615914
Still this is not a right way to go about it.
We should recommend people to play games first but also say that anime is ok because that is how things are in reality.
Also anime is more easy to get in and go through for people with limited time when compared to the VNs who has long ass text.
>>151616078
>>151616119
You guys are agressive fags. Shitting on it won't change fact that most people will go for it first because it is easy to go through. And it does still do an ok job by itself.
Just like I've said already, recommend them the VNs first and if they don't want to they can go and watch anime.
>>151616136
It's very good but only read it after reading the VN.
>>151616382
>We should recommend people to play games first but also say that anime is ok because that is how things are in reality.

m8, not like everyone would be willing to spend many hours to read VNs, it needs effort. If we say them to ignore anime no matter what they might just drop the series altogether which would be not good in my opinion.

No, you're an autistic sycopant who probably made an eight hour video on how Rosa is the culprit. Umineko's ending was fucking trash, and despite what the one or two losers who defend it say it didn't "go above" people's heads.
It's just structurally impotent. The culprit is an unlikable spaz, the themes are nonsensical, and the complete 180 pivot in focus back to the game pieces in the end after spending four episodes pissing about with different layers of meta feels about as genuine as Kinzo the Friendly Grandpa
>>151618060
Never make a promise to a tranny

>>151618324
Didn't deserve her fate. R07 never has a denouement for her though. Fucking piece of shit hack writer. "Without love" my fucking ass.
>>151618072
The thing is that I rarely see very valid criticism of Umineko, meaning it always boils up to ridiculously subjective opinions ("culprit is unlikable") or just calling story dumb with no further explanations. In a way the sudden change of story focus is very similar in Higurashi, and Higurashi rarely gets trashed as thematically inconsistent even as you could similarly see it transform from horror-drama into power of friendship.
In short I totally understand why many people do not like it and the focus shift it makes, but if you have the time then please explain further why it's structurally impotent in a way that doesn't boil up to "I didn't like it". Considering the first half of your post is pretty much just an angry rant you probably have something to specify.
>>151618386
Because the narrative slobbers over Yasu's tranny cock and deliberately brushes the deaths of the truly innocent under the rug.

Sorry faggot, not happening. But for the sake of any suckers your "people just didn't GET IT" act cons, the problem is that Umineko makes a big deal about rules and trust, but betrays that trust and cheats several times.
The red text counting personas as people, but not witch personas as people, is inexcusable. The endless references to "fair play" mystery but having a giant fucking bomb at the center of the island is fucking dumb. The deliberate and constant switch between "You don't need to forgive the culprit, just understand her!" and then "ISN'T BEATRICE(Yasu) GREAT SHE'S SUCH A HERO YAAAAAAAY" is irritating, and finally, the meta self insert writer crap. >but not witch personas as people, is inexcusable
But witches aren't people. Obviously you are going to say next "but imaginative persons aren't persons either" but considering it was never even defined what counts as a person that's hardly a trait that would mess even the internal logic.
>The endless references to "fair play" mystery but having a giant fucking bomb at the center of the island is fucking dumb.
It was foreshadowed since episode 1 so it's hardly "dumb", just something you didn't like.
>"ISN'T BEATRICE(Yasu) GREAT SHE'S SUCH A HERO YAAAAAAAY"
I don't think this ever happened. The novel portrayed Yasu pretty honestly as a shitty person, it's just that most of ep 7 is told from his perspective which is reflected in the narrative. As a counterweight he is portrayed to do pretty malicious pranks to for example Jessica, not to mention the fact he pretty much planned a mass murder. I don't understand how you got the message he was a hero when he was portrayed as malicious and borderline insane.
Your points are pretty stupid and you outright refused to answer to what I asked. I think it's time to step off of your high horse, at least if you refuse to actually discuss the topic in a way that doesn't amount to petty insults.

When you start ep 4, you don't care about Ange. It's only when you get to ep 6 that you start to care. And when you reread ep 4, you see her beginnings and growth. Her bullying at school in ep 4 is top tier.

>>151603078

>>151623391
Depends on your theory but the Golden Truth is a human truth that is accepted by the collective community. It can be true or false, but it becomes truth if everyone accepts it as such.
For example, there is no red truth on Kinzo's dead body or if he's dead, but because everyone notices that the body has a 6th toe, it becomes a gold truth that the body belongs to Kinzo.
Essentially, the red truth is the absolute truth, while the gold truth is an approximation of the truth by collective consensus. It does not have to be true, simply agreed upon to be the truth. For example, it is used a second time in ep 6, when Chick Beatrice and Beatrice create magic by ''appearing'' a candy from a cup. Thus, with the gold truth, it is agreed between those two that is is magic. As Lambda says, the gold truth can sometimes be stronger than the red truth but also weaker, it depends on your perspective, how it is used and who believes it.
The philosopher Peirce is rather interesting in that regard as it is his pragmatism that gold truth. Popper as well but he's a worth shit.
For example, to some, Rosatrice is a Gold Truth, even if it is not a red truth.
That is the difference.

>>151628545
This.
Yasu wrote some murder mystery stories because she was bored and tossed them in the ocean.
Then all the Ushiromiya's got together and had a happy time at the family reunion. Unfortunately the bomb under the mansion went off because it was old and malfunctioned and everyone but Eva died (she was playing hide and seek) and Battler (who ended up getting knocked into the ocean).
It was just a stupid accident but afterwards the media insisted there was foul play and got people to imagine all the terrible things that might have happened but never did.
The truth behind Umineko's mysteries is that there were never any mysteries in the first place.
>>151628685
Ryukishi is right. A Democracy is actually pretty hard and if people take it for granted eventually it will end up as a corrupt, powerless system.
Benjamin Franklin said the same thing in his final speech at the Constitutional Convention.
>"... I agree to this Constitution, with all its faults—if they are such; because I think a general Government necessary for us, and there is no form of government but what may be a blessing to the people, if well administered; and I believe, farther, that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other."
>>151628685
Right, I thought explaining bullying as related to social hierarchy was pretty clever.
But what I really loved about those stories was how wacky it was. The word "bullying" must have been said like 500 times. Yukari and Sumire are fun reps for their philosophies.
>>151629006
>The American system is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. A democracy is a system of unlimited majority rule; the classic example is ancient Athens. And the symbol of it is the fate of Socrates, who was put to death legally, because the majority didn’t like what he was saying, although he had initiated no force and had violated no one’s rights.
>Democracy, in short, is a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights: the majority can do whatever it wants with no restrictions. In principle, the democratic government is all-powerful. Democracy is a totalitarian manifestation; it is not a form of freedom . . . .
>The American system is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights. In such a system, majority rule is applicable only to lesser details, such as the selection of certain personnel. But the majority has no say over the basic principles governing the government. It has no power to ask for or gain the infringement of individual rights.

This stops being an issue when Ryukishi gets a good handle in ep 5 and onwards.
Another problem of Higurashi that people have complained is that the gang mostly have the same tone of voice. They feel like kids but lack their own personality through their speech. The voices fixes that. Ryukishi also fixed that in Umineko as you can tell that each parent and cousin has a different speech pattern, so Ryukishi was clearly taking notes of the criticism.

I haven't seen the new Kinzo until now. Good God what did the maniacs do!? Even Anime Kinzo is better.
Say whatever you want about Umineko's sprites but they had a certain appeal. That new Kinzo isn't memetic at all.

Some of the sprites are okayish, but Battler looks beyond retarded and considering he has probably the most screen-time I think it's kind of a major fuck-up. Just downloaded the full ps3 patch with moving mouths etc, I guess I'll just replay with it some day.

RGD was a very good read.

I remember in the interview on the wiki that he's talking about how exhausting it was to make a story in 3 layers and how he doesn't want to do it again for a very long time. I just think we'll have a story that's not horror and detective related.
>>151667659
So basically pseudo-western feminism?
RGD is all about "muh Japanese spirit", it's as feminist as other works by Ryu.
>>151667880
>I just think we'll have a story that's not horror and detective related.

Happy New Year, Se/a/cats.
I tried this series a while ago, but did'nt make sense at all, the murders are never explained and most characters doesn't have sense under the premise that magic doesn't exists. It's contradictory.

>>151670745
Pretty sure it's 80 hours
>>151670603
>>151670603
The anime is garbage, read the VN to get the full experience. I know everyone says "the original is better" but the anime tries to cram 80 hours into 24 episodes, I bet you don't even remember all the character names which is pretty big sin for a character driven story.
Just play the VN.
Happy new year you faggots.

But Battler explains it all in the last showdown. Tiny bombs in the food, trap X everywhere, what's there to doubt? Also
>most characters doesn't have sense under the premise that magic doesn't exists
What makes you think magic doesn't exist? It's confirmed in Gold.

Or Manga, it does a good adaptation and I would say even improves certain parts of it especially the horror aspect, as well as giving a proper answer. Only downside is no music and voices.

"When Nobody Cries"
I just started reading Umineko, I'm in the first chapter right when the survivors start holing up in Kinzo's study. How much farther do I have to go for the chapter?
Am I supposed to use the old sprites?
>>151683736
Whichever you prefer I guess.
Some like the original, some the PS3. It's generally agreed though that the Steam/Pachinko version is shit.
>>151635194
>>151635231
>>151635472
>>151683736
I think the old sprites are best. They express emotion better and are the authors original intent. PS3 sprites are also good. Just never use the godawful pachinko sprites that are the default on the steam release.
Also, you are near the climax of chapter 1.
Chapter 2 is slightly longer than Chapter 1.
Chapter 3 is like twice the size of the first 2 chapters.
Chapter 4 is like 20% larger than chapter 3.
You are in for one hell of a wild ride, leave this thread before you get spoiled.
its about an fbi agent investigating murders on college campus
the twist is that
the fbi agent's true identity is battler
as in BATTLERas in asumu's childas in Jessica. Final boss is Yasu
>>151684047
But I am using the Steam version since it was gifted to me. Is there any way to mod in the PS3 sprites?
I just can't take anything seriously with the ZUN-tier art, I just burst out laughing each time
>>151684139
trust me, you get used to the ZUN art and it becomes an endearing part of the experience. The emotions they manage to express are great. I never bothered modding the steam version, but I know there is a ps3 sprite mod for the non steam version.
Rose Gun Days is a weird mix of Jingoism, Feminism, and Anti-Western sentiment
Naturally, the most interesting/popular characters are all western themed + related.
Goodbye thread

>>151684406
>anti-Western sentiment
It's pretty fair and balanced to be honest. It makes it clear Japan has a lot of fucking problems and the Japanese are responsible for many of those problems, but China and the US are also shitty and their hands aren't clean either.
I think the one thing you can take away from RGD is that you should be proud of your own heritage and nationality, but within moderation. Being too ashamed of it, but also too proud of it will bring all sorts of problems.
Until next animal cries.
