I knew the ending wasn't going to be good based on the last few episodes, but DAMN.
>tfw dropped it after episode 9
Glad I dodged that bullet
So I guess this is the thread we're gonna use?
Sumbit your cards!
We're making a thank you image! The card will be a collection of images into one big image sent to them via Twitter using imgur. The due date for submissions is 12/30/16 at 9:00 am pst. Send all images to [email protected]
600 by 600 pixels
>Why not here? it's an imageboard after all. we'd just have to reply your post.
Its hard trying to shitpost 24/7 to have to go around collecting images
>Why not real postcards? I want to send one. But there needs to be a campaign for it to mean something.
I'm not sure how this would be accomplished so I'm limiting it to digital.
>Who are we sending it to?
@binobinobi the directors twitter
Too bad Yayaka couldn't dodge the rabbit cock
After Madoka, a happy ending is not so common really. It was also nice how they rejected various cop out endings in the last minutes. E.g. how the time rewind ending got BTFO by Salt.
Since we established in the previous threads that this show is a flawed masterpiece, or at least a similar tier of quality (somewhere above simply being great, but somewhere below being a masterpiece), What are some shows of similar and comparable quality?
What anime would you say is in the same tier as Flip Flappers? You can include old classics, obscure niche titles, or even new stuff in your list, I dont care- as long as you honestly believe what you are listing is of the same level of quality as Flip Flappers.
Salt is cute.
This show was okay.
Was this Sayuris room? Some anons assumed she's into cosplay, which would be fitting with all of those DVDs.
Yeah, it was a PI, but the characters didn't acted out of character
these outfits are so cute
FLFL thread without a strawpoll is not a FLFL thread
Was she implying Salt was having an affair?
>tfw with Sayuri
>OTP is canon
This show was just a better Space Dandy to me
It was like Space Dandy without the shit filler episodes, shit comedy, and better characters, and less jumping the shark
That's the best way I could describe this show
I meant it's still AOTS but damn I should have stopped watching at this episode, that was pretty much where the show peaked
I remember people discussing who the two silhouettes gushing blood could be from the preview last week.
Turns out it's just these fuckers.
You'd have to have the shittiest taste in the world not to love this episode.
So do you guys think that FliFla is going to go extant on the everyone's memory like the other masterpieces for instance Lain, Haibane?
Was great up to that ending. Though, I wish I would have waited to watch all of them instead of through 9 and being stuck waiting for the ending. Definitely a show you want to watch all at once.
I am just sad that I dont get to see more of those two being lovey dovey and going on fun adventures together. I am sad I dont get to see Salt trying to be an awkward dad, or FlipFlap basically opening a dorm for Yayaka, the Triplets, Papika, and Cocona.
I just love them all so much that I just want to see more. Is that so bad?
Do tell. I'm ignorant of the actual story of Journey to the West.
My favorite episode is still 3, but yeah, ep8 was the last big high/great episode. Ep9 was still good, even with the boring PI, it was a nice Yayaka centric episode, but ep10 onward was just excruciating to watch.
>lmao nigga don't even think, feel like it like Bruce Lee - Oshiyama 2016
it was pretty shit desu
The animation was horrendous, Mimi being the typical 2evil4u shapeshifting villain was fucking boring, the generic happy ending with 1 minute of doubt was way too fucking rushed, the fighting scenes didn't have any tension to them, the scene between Salt and Mimi had no impact whatsoever, the rabbit was just thrown in there because they forgot that he was at some point important to the show (same as bu and the twins)
I gained a daughter from this show, and I'm just glad she got her happy ending.
Yayaka was a mistake
Mimi was a mistake
Episode 8 was a success
not in the general publics eye, but in the eye of the 50-100 of us who love love LOVE it in these threads, I think it will be fondly remembered. It will grow into a niche classic that is tossed around in "Should you watch" threads and images as something that is essential to be seen if you want to move beyond entry level.
Not really as cancerously memorable as re:zero or hibikek, but this sits on a special place inside my memory.
It's more like a precious treasure I want to keep rather than flaunt it around and brag it to everyone.
I only watched 2 shows this season
I enjoyed it more than www.Working!, but that's a compliment, in my opinion
OH FUCK SHE'S GOING TO DO A THING
In my top 3 series by studio 3hz for sure
It was a show completely about self-contained stories (with them being hit and miss, 75% misses), no lasting character development since every episode was a separate world, with only the ending loosely tying it together.
I mean, I LIKED the show overall, but it was a show with enjoyment spikes, not consistency.
3 is easily episode of the year. Everything in it is great: animation, music, sceneries, enemies, fights, etc.
Also wins preview of the decade:
Feel the same.
If they also upgrade episodes 12 and 13 to 30 minutes each to fix pacing issues, it will easily upgrade to top 3.
If they then decided to add in an epilogue episode 14 with comfy adventures after the conclusion of the main story and maybe a kissu, it would be top 2 easily.
Then, if they did all the above and added like 5 more episodes to the main series- showing us the 2 PI that were only hinted at in episode 5, allowing us to have progression between episode 4 and 5 instead of the time jump, an episode 7.5 showing us Papika perspective of episode 7, and then 2 episodes focusing either solely on Papika or Flip Flap members, and then the show would defintiely be 11/10 perfect GOAT number 1 of all time.
>since this anime was made specifically for me.
I find it difficult to believe the majority of /a/ wants to watch an avant-garde post-modern helter-skelter aggregation of, more or less, discordant phantasmagorical acid trips laced with yuri fanservice in which all partaking female's breasts are no larger than A cups.
I don't know, on one hand so many other shows didnt screw the pooch in the last episodes (in fact, they got better) that it wouldnt be fair to put this show above them, and yet the first 8 or so episodes were so up and above everything else this season it would be sad to not give them praise.
I can't decide, but what i can say was this was disappointment of the season, it just came later than earlier this fall.
If so this is really really bad for Cocona.
What's the purpose of fighting and freeing herself from her mother if she goes to live in a world created by her mother? Where she only have to make decisions for the choices her mother allows?
Thanks for your constant friendly reminder of Cockona
>completely controls the world
Really made me think
Agreed, I dropped it on episode 8 or something after realizing I really don't give a damn about the characters, and that sakuga can't carry it on its own
humor was also hit or miss
Are we talking about the same show?
Episode 1-9 is a 9/10, with some 10/10 episodes.
Episode 10 is an 8/10.
Episode 11 is a 10/10.
First two thirds of episode 12 is 9/10, last third is an 8/10.
Episode 13 is a 9/10, if it had a kissu, it would be 10/10.
Sorry for being late, but man. What a ride.
The last episode was pretty hard on the Coconuts, you can chalk that one up to yanderemom going mental.
The other ones are sadly not worth mentioning aside from the 16 Papikas.
Apologies, but i can't scan this at the time, If the threads stay going I'll probably drop it sometime this week.
Thanks for the ride, see you next time.
Did they ever explain the dead girl in the beginning
This show showed love better than most romance anime, kiss or no kiss. I can't remember the last time I saw genuine love blossom from start to finish between two people that felt real.
> I dropped it on episode 8 or something
I am not a huge fan of space dandy but dropping the show is a mistake, especially since the latter half is generally better and has some absolutely fantastic stuff. The episodes are so different and the continuity matters so little that the right approach to SD is to skip episodes you're not feeling 5 minutes in.
Can't find Over The Rainbow on Youtube, please give me a link.
3hz has no talent outside of some above-average animators; just remember that they didn't make the backgrounds
I've watched all 3 shows they've made and they've all ended up sucking ass, I'm done with this fraud ass studio
Nobody cares, we are having adventurs!
The Precure hommage was great.
I hope you remember the Cure names from that sequence, anons.
>Papika uses Barriers
>Henshin is Pure Barrier
>Cocona uses a Blade
>Henshin is Pure Blade
>Yayaka uses Boots
>Henshin is _________
Tarantino is fun as fuck, the more you understand all his references the more you understand that he is just a big geek making films to honor his favorites. He has a passion that bleeds into his work that is infections. Its the same with FliFla, regardless of its flaws you can feel the passion.
>I WILL SAVE HER FROM SUFFERING BY TURNING HER INTO A DOLL
As far as villain motivations go, "muh suffering" is one of the worst.
But the last episode was good? It was pretty great actually? WTF are you talking about?
The series took a down turn prior to ep11 but ep13 was great as the earlier ones and overall it's a great series.
Well, that was lame.
I'll never forget the early threads tho.
All the mass speculating and awe at the possibilities.
They may have come up to being jack dick, but it was fun while it lasted.
So long /flfl/, and thanks for all the fish.
>I can't remember the last time I saw genuine love blossom from start to finish between two people that felt real.
They born as soulmates, you really think this is "good" romance?
Not gonna lie, totally underwhelmed right now. At the very least, the generic happy ending means I don't have to be left with low quality AND tragedy. The bait and switch where
Cocona thought she could never get back to PI and had lost Papikawas actually a really good idea, but she didn't think that for long enough to make me feel sad or worried that that would be the actual ending. Should have been stretched out over a few more episodes. Rushed/10 I still love all the characters though.
Ep 12 was honestly better than 13 because it at least had the yayaka transformation
But 13 had Mimi transformation
Ep 12 was by far the worst and you can call it bad but 13 was in line with most of the other episodes in terms of quality and general flow of the story. The whole series is lighthearted and weird and to ask for some sort of edgy dark ending just ignores what the whole show is about.
That's the thing. Most people just couldn't see the actual substance because they couldn't find what they're used to seeing from generic big-studio shows. On the other hand, they also applaud those half-assed shows which they think has actual substance, but are just a bunch of tropes put together with 'muh refined animation' on top.
This, I dont know why people expected a dark end. Maybe something bittersweet, like Kingdom Hearts end (which was a popular vote from a good deal of you) but no one should have honestly expected full on tragedy.
Not in front of mom
>t she didn't think that for long enough to make me feel sad or worried that that would be the actual ending.
I thought it worked particularly well, the bittersweet ending was so expected that as soon as the colors were desaturated my heart just sank. It gave you just enough of a hint of depression then took it away with Papika and sunshine. Which encapsulated the feeling the Papika gave to Cocona when she has rescued her
This is my favorite this season because, second half of Stella no Mahou was also dab (what a coincidence).
I agree wholeheartedly. But even then it's more about the overall storyline being bad than about individual episodes.
>13 was in line with most of the other episodes in terms of quality and general flow of the story.
This just isn't true. Look at the likes of episodes 3 or 5 and compare it to the rushed exposition dump that was the last few episodes. The entire thing was an otherwise amazing anime ruined by time constraints.
Even the shitposters must agree that this episode was way better animated than we all feared.
yes, but then I grew up and stopped worrying about what others thought and watch my magical lesbian adventures with a big grin on my face like a little girl.
I'm just rewatching the first bit now and I have to say it's gorgeous. They really outdid themselves considering that intense last-minute crunch to get it all finished
Wukong under the mountain is a definitive and important scene in both Chinese and Japanese pop-culture as something mildly obscure but also supremely important to the literary world.
Even though Journey to the West is a Ming writing, it received a very early translation to Japanese, and major media in Japan adopted it early on. The scene evoked Saiyuki in some ways, one of the more influential recent examples, and Papika's character is not unlike that of Wukong depending on the rendition. It could be accidental, but there are a few hints it wasn't.
So, what do you think the chances are that Papika and Cocona are still stuck in Pure Illusion, and maybe never even left it? They flew into Mimi, seemingly without any real plan, and when they woke up everything was just magically back to normal.
We don't even know what happened after they collided with mimi. Did she destroy the world, and just make a new PI where she thought Cocona would be happy? A cardboard world with cardboard people, and maybe Cocona was even manipulated to never see through it-- just her and Papika, being played with like rag dolls, for the rest of eternity, going on fake adventures to fake worlds.
It is called Pure Illusion after all.
>tfw Mimi will never spank you until you become a good girl
With a mom like this, it's really no wonder Cocona grew into a lesbian.
http://pastebin.com/eiaveL68 Many thanks dataanon.
Triggering chartfag autism one last time.
It's been a pleasure gents.
Realistic Uexkull really fucked with my head.
If Rabbits in FLFL world would be expected to look realistic, then that means that something is wrong with the world where Uexkull looks like a green blob.
What if evilMimi escapes confinement in Pure Illusion and decides to see if the world is good enough for her kawaii Cocona-chan by giving outsiders in a backwater town the ability to enter Pure Illusion to see what they do with it?
Cocona is cool
No problem. I like making them.
Everytime someone says they are feeling that writer change I imagine they are getting a pen impaling their asshole or something
I love how FliFla has great wallpaper-worthy stitches that you can display publicly without revealing your powerlevel.
There is no evil mimi, there is only mimi. At the end of the episode she had resolved her inner conflict, she was ready to let her daughter go and live her life. The best part was that it took both mimi and salt together for her to make this realization. Its a great comment on the types of parental love and the need for balance
>some episodes actually have substance
This is getting too abstract. What does substance even mean in this context? None of the episodes in Space Dandy really had substance, outside of the ending and maybe one or two. Dandy getting together with Scarlet was the most substance in the show, and it literally reverted to status quo in the end. None of the episodes of Space Dandy had a real point, they were all for fun or gags, at most a little backstory on side characters.
Tell me anon, what was the "substance" in Space Dandy?
I can feel my disappointment for having hopes up.
Twins became slightly more empathetic, Yayaka got over her Cocona crush, Cocona decided she liked Papika. None of those lasted more than 2 episodes of content and really only covered a few minutes of the show. The entire rest of it was filler.
Thanks to you as well. We've made something magical.
Seriously though why the curves, it's triggering me
I would have liked something resembling the live action + 2D parts of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duCiKfcMNOA
A "real word" Pure Illusion to end the series, that would make Flip Flappers into a 9 or 10/10 anime.
Shame the costume and character designs are not cute enough. They were kind of bland, and lacking fluffy angelic types that are often in mahou shoujo. Also, there's too much sexualization. These two factors are one of the few reasons that made it unpopular to actual middle school girls or younger.
Maybe if we all buy the blurays they'll make another season that's just pure adventure and no plot shit, r-right guys?
What was she blushing at?
What was the point of bringing up Sayuri's crush on Salt in ep 12 out of nowhere? I thought they were building up him giving up on Mimi, but it's not like Sayuri influenced his actions in any way in the end. Another waste of screentime plotline?
> Jakob Johann Baron von Uexküll was a Baltic German biologist who worked in the fields of muscular physiology, animal behaviour studies, and the cybernetics of life.
It's true though. All the mahou shoujo costumes have that cutesy cheesiness and fluffy things. FliFla instead went for muh butterfly symbolism and lewdify its design. Might as well make all the six kids as males, and homo-shotalust them up to each others. I'm sure it'd sell like crazy.
Last stitch. And since someone asked for an archive last time, here's everything I made for FF excluding webms and
I loved how her hands were blushing too
Shyuri is best yuri
Mimi is the worst because she made the show actively worse. To a lesser extent Yayaka since she consumed screentime becoming cool and likeable without actually achieving anything in the end.
Of course. Season 2 will be glorious and another beautiful depiction of Cocona and friends going through imaginative symbolism filled adventures, expect it sometime in the near future.
>without actually achieving anything in the end
She achieved best girl status.
>Not 12 year old edgy boiz
>Consider a happy ending generic and dull just 'cause
Are you newfags, normies, edgy kids or just braindead since birth?
Anyways, solid 9/10. Itself it would be 8/10, but I found it very enjoyable and interesting, so it gets an extra point for that. A few things are left unexplained, but nowhere the amount of most other shows. Let's not forget that Madoka is FULL of plotholes and unexplained bs.
S-Sure it will, anon. We just have to believe.
As much as I would love one there shouldn't be a season two. The story is complete there is nothing left of importance to tell with our characters. Papika and Cocona can now live forever in our imaginations.
I don't like this
This is the shit of nightmares
Pure laziness. I wanted curves that look like soundwaves and just used OpenOffice's very limited chart generator. Couldn't be bothered finding a method/program that represented the data more accurately while maintaining a flipflappy style.
If this was not a completely pointless and meaningless chart I would have put in more effort. But because it is pointless, the triggering was hilarious. So bad curves it is.
Yayaka was awesome, but the biggest consequence of her struggle was the twins taking her example. The story would have been better if died in ep 9. Although with Iroha recovering seems like the authors didn't want the girls to be burdened with any consequence from their actions.
Mimi being cutemad at Salt for keeping her waiting was adorable.
Mimi should've stayed like this. The KKK ruined everything.
>Although with Iroha recovering seems like the authors didn't want the girls to be burdened with any consequence from their actions.
She was recovered after they switched orange and blue iro. We just saw it as a negative because we were viewing it from the perspective of Cocona, who didn't want change.
Papika and Cocona had freed Iro from her need to use art as a mechanism to deal with her unloving parents, instead art became a joyful, something to express herself like she did with her aunt
I put this on hold on episode 5. Should I bother finishing it?
>We just saw it as a negative because we were viewing it from the perspective of Cocona, who didn't want change.
/a/ also saw it as a negative because SHE'S TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLE THE NORMIE SLUT RUINED FOREVER
it was never portrayed as being negative and even Cocona realized it by episode 8.
If my memory is correct
1-6 Yunico (yuri author)
4- some guy I don't remember
7 - Oshyiama himself
8-13 some drama guy
SHE ACTUALLY SAID IT
I'm a little bit slower, was Salt Cocona's father or did Salt's father rape Mimi?
>being this triggered by cunny
How does it make you feel that young Salt stuck his little salt shaker right into Mimi's cunny and indirectly fucked Cocona's perfect body
So ultimately why was the show called Flip Flappers
Rewatched it with HS, lovely ending. It's not perfect, but what is? I'm glad we got our CocoPapi.
The Mimi dream is the first thing you see in episode 1 after the OP.
SHE'S ACTUALLY DOING IT
It's been a pleasure posting with you all. Hopefully we don't have to wait to long for another flip flappers.
According to the interview with Oshiyama posted earlier today Yuniko and Oshiyama already planned out the story together at the beginning and the 8-13 guy was only brought in because of the schedule.
>She was recovered after they switched orange and blue iro.
She was ruined like Salt's dad. They "killed" her by erasing the person she was.
>instead art became a joyful
I would assume she would never draw anything good again due to loosing her edge, but it's not really what the final episode implies (although the canvas was empty so it's not like actually drew anything, let alone anything good). Well, it sucks in my opinion because it removes impact from previous scenes. And there was no consequence to their actions.
It's bad not because of the way she changed, but because she became another being that only looks like Iroha and is called Iroha.
What a shit tier show. There was no story at all. And all the /u/fags thinking they got a yuri ending disgusts me. Yuri is never ever real.
Fuck this show. I hope it is forgotten forever starting tomorrow.
First 7 episodes were fantastic, episodes 8 and 9 were okay, episodes 10-13 were weak.
I'm sad that my initial fears of the show tripping over itself once it got into the main plot were accurate. They should have scrapped it altogether and stuck with the original adventurous tone.
>cops a feel before knocking her away
It's really know wonder Cocona ended up gay. Poor girl never had a chance
The condom probably exploded from the insane pressure inside.
It was always going to be the story we saw though just perhaps expressed differently. I am not sure how much better anyone could have done it with the time they had left. It was Yuniko and Oshiyama's first original project so it isn't surprising they misjudged somewhat the amount of material they could tell to best effect.
>implying a condom could withstand this
Why are people upset about the ending? After 3 and a half straight episodes of suffering, We got a happy/heartwarming end without the use of copouts or asspulls (despite what shitposter trolling may say).
This was pretty good. Sure, our FEELS weren't wrecked by something tragic or bittersweet, but my heart is full of happiness- the only sadness and disappointment I have over the ending is the fact that its over and I don't get more adventures with these lovable dorks.
I feel pretty good right now.
There were consequences, Iro was a different person. Her motivation for creating art just changed. Instead of being a response to a bad situation, a way to deal, it was a response to a good situation.
She still has the desire to create art but her reason for doing so is slightly different. Deep PI cured here of her neurosis surrounding her bad childhood
Got bogged down by school and had to put everything but Working and Euphonium on hold
