Yea I'd say flip flappers is easily AOTS, as there really wasn't much else this season as fun, we'll animated, or with such a unique art style.

I'd even give it AOTY just because I feel like it'll go down as a sort of niche classic that goes on a lot of "must watch" recommendation lists for people. Not a 10/10 by any means as it certainly has its flaws (mostly in the realm of pacing), but a very well made and enjoyable anime.

Mob and Reigen received obvious resolution in the finale.
Teruki got his catharsis midway through the show and transitioned into an ally.
Ritsu also about the same but more gradually.
The side characters were more or less out of the picture in the last arc but they were just side characters. As far as drama goes though it's pretty clear that Mob and Reigen have the most important part in the story.

Serious post. AOTS is very subjective as ranking depends entirely on what factors you value the shows by - be it popularity on /a/, personal enjoyment, memetic relevance, sales etc.

So better measure would be not to measure the values NOW, but estimate which shows will become classics - because as season ends, majority of the shows will be completely forgotten and fade into pit of irrelevance, with few exceptions. Those exceptions are Classics - anime tested with time, and only thing that can be trully called AOTS, since in a season you`ll not even remember what aired back during this time.

So according to this, the AOTS for each seasons are:
Winter - Konosuba/Phantom World (2nd will be remembered longer just because its by KyoAni)
Spring - Kiznaiver (because Trigger), Macross Delta (because Macross), Mayoiga (Another is Classic)
Summer- LL Sunshine, New Game (because CGDCT by Godakobo). Also Summer is illustration of my point, since as it ended everyone immidiately forgot its actual AOTS - ReLife.
Fall - Yuri on Ice (since Hibike is 2nd cour)

Re:Zero and the likes, while enjoying the popularity for moment will wane in abyss drown in the continous stream of Isekai adaptaion. Next season already replaced with Death March.

Every KyoAni anime past KeyShit except for Munto became classic. Even the ones that pretty much failed like Nichijou and Tamako.

KyoAni works gain more popularity with time because they age well - thanks to great direction and production values, a value of real classics.

Good example being Hyouka which wasnt actually that popular when it aired, but gained traction very fast after BD release and outperformed all predictions in sales, as well now considered best KyoAni show and has big fanbase.

People liking KyoAni will inevitably go through their other works and watch PW as well.

Macross Delta is not a first Macross to fail, just as recent Aquarion is not the first one to be bad. However Macross is classic franchize, and any show that is not completely disregarded will remain relevant in the future. When next Macross will be released newfags will ask "in what order should i watch Macross?" and Delta will be there in the list.

I'd say Kuromukuro is quite underrated and should take it over Flying Witch (which I definitely liked a lot). I haven't watched the last few episodes of Hibike yet but I heard they are pretty great so maybe judging by the end it's overall better than FliFla (I probably won't think so because I think FliFla ended pretty well).

I don't know about Hibike since I haven't watched it but if you think Kuromukuro is a bad mecha you simply haven't watched enough bad mecha. It's a throwback to old formula and intentionally removed all the edginess and replaced it with SOL. Also it ended really well--everything explained, story concluded but left some room for imagination.

FliFla had a really bad couple of episodes but ep13 was pretty fine and the series ended well overall.

I like the show but I disagree on that point. It needed to end either with Ken and Yukina becoming a couple on Earth, or with Ken and Yukina going together to the other planet (without Yukina being left behind).

The show built up their relationship so beautifully that it was a huge fucking bummer to end with them separated and the usual "we'll meet together again I swear" fucking bullshit ending that's bittersweet for the mere sake of being bittersweet.

A bittersweet end fit the whole story well. It was explained pretty clearly why Ken and Muetta couldn't stay on Earth and you can't expect Yukina just leaving her mother and sister there on the spot when she's not even an adult yet. Overall I really like them not showing anything related to the other planet, it left room for the audience to imagine whether or not Ken and Muetta had just died or were they successful.

New Game does not live up to Godakobo`s best shows, but it is leagues above Stella by all means. NG popularity is really caused more by lack of good comedy sols at that season, but its still more relevant and better made then SnM.

SnM is somewhere on Momokuri tier - a nice show to watch if have too much time and everything else dropped, but completely forgettable otherwise.

Good comparison would be past seasons Kono Bijutsu, which unlike SnM is actually a good show and not just filler for lack of alternatives.

There have been 3 other anime this season that were delayed, 1 week isn't enough to ruin a series. SnM literally has some of the worst official subtitles of anything in recent memory though. They are consistently Hadena tier bad every week. The other fansubs groups are hardly any better because they use these as a base as well. They are shit enough to ruin the entire show.

Flip Flappers ended up the AOTY this year almost undisputed
Only Flying Witch came close and it still couldn't really give flifla a run for it's money.

It's a once-in-a-decade kind of show, something we'll be talking about well into the 2020s. Other shows to come will be criticized more harshly because they fail to compare favourably to Flip Flappers, and original concepts will struggle as they are accused of simply being shallow imitations or downright ripoffs of this masterpiece.
