Where did Araragi get 3600 Dollar to afford this watch?
He can't possibly have payed for it by himself
Did he commit a crime?
Is this why he left the house in such a hurry the night he met Shinobu?
>>
3600 yen is not a lot of money, considering exchange rate.
>>
His family is rich. It was probably a christmas gift from his dad or something.
>>
Araragi family house's over the top visuals aside, he's family is pretty wealthy.
>>
>>151555284

Who in their right mind would want a watch over a car. Is your ego really so important that you would dump 5200 bucks just to have it stroked by strangers on the sidewalk?
>>
>>151556182
It wasn't about ego,I have the money to spare and I love the history and the look of the watch.
And like you said, only other people who take an interest in watches recognise it and come up to me,the ''Stranger on the Sidewalk'' doesn't really interest me.

Mate, quartz/whatever crystal oscillators are fairly accurate even for a 25 buck chinkshit watch. I mean at minutes and sometimes only seconds of slippage over several years accurate.

If we were talking mechanical, hell no anything under 200 won't be even close to accurate, but tech has done away with that problem long ago.

He doesn't need to be a criminal when his parents are police officers. Just look at the place they live in - lounge like a modern art gallery, bedrooms like something out of MoMA and a bathroom like a cathedral.

Oh, and the car. Has anyone noticed that Arararagi's car has red lights at the front? In Japan, only police cars can have red lights at the front. Go figure.
>>
Maybe he just borrowed it from his father because he couldn't find his/he didn't own one and for some reason the situation required a watch.

There was a youtube documentary.

Most watchmakers today know they are in a dangerous fragile state close to extinction so the most expensive brands need to constantly come up with ways to sell their fancy watches.

It is like asking why are your pair of glasses are so expensive.

Basically, all your glass frames and lenses are made by the same company even though your glasses frames say Gucchi. They contract to the same company behind it all and before the name Gucci is applied to the frame with a machine, the originally nameless glasses frame only just cost less than 5 dollars to produce. Now with the Gucchi brand name applied, it costs like 100 dollars or more.

Shoujo manga that constantly feature heirs or sons of Japanese politicians make Japanese politicians seem like royalty.

I'm talking about shoujo manga, though.

I don't really know how Japanese politicians are treated in real life.

However, seeing Araragi's house and its size, Araragi's mom may be a Police Superintendet.

She wears a suit to work now instead of her old cop uniform she had when Araragi was like 5 years old.

Policemen that wear suits to work rather than regular cop uniforms means they may have been promoted to a managerial position or higher.

For example, the Police Superintendent spends most of the day behind a desk after all.

Those visuals are exaggerations, sure, but they're common tropes in anime. A ton of shows have characters breaking walls down and putting huge craters in the road. Similarly, wounds in anime always tend to spit out about 3 human bodies worth of blood.

But the anon I'm quoting said that taking any visual in the show literally is stupid, and so that raises more issues. If I'm supposed to take nothing literally, what's even the point in watching the show? I'd be better off just reading the source material. You can't say every visual is meant to be figurative, because at that point it becomes useless to watch the show.
