All hail the best anime of Kyoani and of Year 2016
I miss them bros
I fucking love Asuka truly the best girl Kumiko agrees don't bother her about it
It'd be nice if there's romance between the cake and him to mirror Reina and Taki
What was based fagott thinking while watching /ourguy/ play?
Anyone else not able to watch anime besides kyoani shows nowadays? Been on a decline for years but even Jojo, the only of three shows I've seen this year, felt off due to style.
Also holy shit this show really have tip-top girls its amazing.
Hazuki is a really good girl.
>hot, like fucking perfect
>hidden depths and struggles
>same seiyuu as my waifu
Best girl of the show, absolutely.
>too late to learn any instrument
>too late to enjoy youth
>too late to fall in love
D R O P P E D
Are the people posting about how this is AOTY and KyoAni's magnum opus just trolling? I mean, I enjoyed this series, and I'll watch anything with a KyoAni label on it, but I would be hard-pressed to even put this series in a "Top 3" list, never mind greatest of all.
>too late to learn any instrument
It probably isn't, mate.
Playing an instrument is honestly a really nice way to keep yourself busy. You'll always have something to work towards, to get better.
reminder that ribbons actually cares and that she's going to make club great again also she got the ribbon of her senpai which is great
But I'm busy most of the day. I only have the weekends and that's probably not enough. Moreover the instrument that I really like, the trumpet, is hard as hell to learn and it would take several years to even get at a mediocre level.
Why is this a thing? Where is my realistic school drama?
>better than k-on
>phantom and hyouka were mediocre
Phantom was decent for being a Battle Harem LN adaptation. Hyouka was actually an AOTY. You're also forgetting Amaburi and Chuunibyou, both of which were more engaging than boring high school brass band drama.
>Moreover the instrument that I really like, the trumpet, is hard as hell to learn and it would take several years to even get at a mediocre level.
Some people learn faster than others, but yeah. It takes a while to get any good at it. Eventually though, you'll actually start to sound good and you'll be happy to have picked up the instrument in the first place. If you don't try, maybe you'll really regret it 10 years from now.
At the very least you could rent a instrument and take some lessons. If it doesn't end up working out you can at least not regret never trying in the long run.
What the fuck was up with the Commiefication of the subs this episode? They even changed Kaori's name.
Musume no Iede KyoAni adaptation WHEN.
Become the studio of fluff.
It hasn't even been 24 hours and the threads are already pretty much dead
>Animation in episode 1
>Animation in episode 2
>Animation in episode 3
>Animation in episode 4
>Animation in episode 5
>Animation in episode 6
>Animation in episode 7
>buh- buh the animation was fine!
No it fucking wasn't, that's why they fixed it in the second season. K-On S1 was made while Disappearance was the studio's focus and it and Haruhi S2 suffered for it.
It's the only 10/10 I've seen this year, and the only 10/10 Kyoani (Haruhi is 9/10, Nichijou is 8/10, and everything else is 6/10 or lower).
I mostly just loved S1 because I was really into Kumirei, but I found S2 to be extremely emotional. Just really powerful drama that was executed beautifully. I was literally shaking, heart pounding and on the verge of tears in almost every episode.
>I've heard this sound before... this Sound! Euphonium
>that fucking glance between Asuka and Kumiko during the whole song
I will feel never find a genuine friendship like this one.
You were supposed to choose one of them anon.
Every Kumiko and Reina ADOLESCENCE episode was magic.
Will they ever recover?
S2 was definitely inferior to S1, but not bad. The beginning was vexing, but it did get better.
That being said, it's a shame Shuuichi didn't get developed at all. Even if not romantic, I did expect him to get a bit more of focus.
Asuka did get a lot more of screen time, she became a much better character. However, as far as improvement goes, no one can beat Ribbons.
Kumiko was pretty much the same, since she's always been the most developed character.
The worst thing from S2 is Reina's character. It got completely annihilated. She went from one of the best things from S1, to nearly complete horeshit in S2. Reducing her character to her childish feelings for Taki completely destroyed her.
Shuichi still has the girls in the trombone section and Reina is still actively pursuing Taki-sensei's dick. They'll be fine.
I enjoyed most of this season. Episode 9 and 10 are par with S1 with the train crying scene being maybe the most emotional moment of the show.
But god damn this show fail at the end. Ep 11 focused on a plot line that no one cared about. 12 was twenty minutes of missed opportunities (final ensemble together, Asuka and her father, Kumiko and her sister). 13 was basically a glorified recap episode with a confession at the end. I found myself speeding most of the episode just to get over with.
S2 ep1-10 8/10
S2 ep11-13 meh
I'm incredibly jealous that I'll never get to touch the fluff.
Onee-chan got the most powrful one.
There is a lot to Kumiko's relationships. At first she liked boys but they were no good, then she liked Reina but she didn't like her back, later she confessed to her original crush but it's absolutely forbidden, then, at the end, she finds somebody that's okay to love.
It truly was Hibike! Euphonium
Our boy Shuuichi needs to move on from Kumiko, the anime one at least. The dyke is so Thirsty she started projecting her desires on Asuka after Reina gave her a cold shoulder.
>all these delusional yurifags that have never loved someone platonically
Have you people ever had friends in your life? Oh wait I'm asking the wrong board
Don't worry, I think he already is moving on.
so if Asuka was just a replacement for Mamiko, was Reina just a replacement for Mamiko too?
The author of the novels said that the Japanese word (Hibike) is what you would say if you were asked, "What sound does a Euphonium make?" In the interview I read, Hibike was translated a "resound". The decision to translate Hibike as Sound is probably just based on what sounded good for an English title, as opposed to literal meaning.
Like they had this short cut in today's ep and yeah, all you can eat thigh meat
>the Japanese word (Hibike) is what you would say if you were asked, "What sound does a Euphonium make?"
i thought hibike straight up meant "sound" such that you could say hibike when asked what sound any instrument makes
The jazz piece (PV song) was fucking neat. Dat Kaori fast descendant scale, near the end, shitted on anything played by Reina so far.
I'd have loved if they'd done more of that through the series.
Well, I won't lie, I will miss this show. It left me with that annoying void in the chest when I saw Asuka leaving, and Kumiko read the Sound! Euphonium title.
Also the musical piece in the credits... As a musician, the more music, the more I get emotionally invested. Well this final episode was perfect to me. Hibike is described as a musical anime, but to me it lacked in that department, so I liked at least they done this for the final episode.
I don't think I want to see more of this. It's a pretty satisfactory ending for me.
God bless, KyoAni.
Here's the interview I read.
Read it and try to decide for yourself what it means. The question of what the title of the show means is near the top.
Hibike can either be the command or potential form for the verb in pic related.
>Anyone else not able to watch anime besides kyoani shows nowadays?
No you're just fucking autistic or a lying shitposter.
Delusional as fuck. Kumiko doesn't like Asuka romantically. That's like saying TV Utena wanted to fuck Himemiya but even more projecting.
I still love roboe.
Kumiko doesn't like Asuka romantically.
I read an interview with the author of the novels wherein she said that she wanted to write a story where 'fellowship' was above 'romance' so I tend to agree with this.
I got the impression that Kumiko is drawn to talented and "special" people. The author said that Shuichi was the special person before Reina showed up. And then I presume Asuka became an equally special person in her eyes as the novels progressed.
It was really unfair to the other sections desu
Did they fug later?
Man, Euphonium girls were best girls. These 3 are pretty much my 3 favorite characters from the show. I would move to Japan and join high school concert band and play Euphonium if these girls were real.
Since they made it to nationals they'll have more people flocking to join. Word has gotten about Taki-sensei too, remember the middle schoolers at the festival Reina chased away?
>she said that she wanted to write a story where 'fellowship' was above 'romance' so I tend to agree with this.
Yeah thats the main feeling I get, which I really respect. True friendship is really hard to find, especially people who share same goals and interests and who push you forward to those goals. The entire dynamic they had basically saved season 2 for me.
Also do you know why replies are showing as ellipses below reply numbers rather then (You)?
Yes, I agree. And about the removal of (you), not sure. It happened very recently. I guess it's just Hiroshimoot fucking with the site again.
Yes exactly. The author mentions in the interview at some point that Kumiko is a passive character, which I take to mean that she is an observer, so I think you're right.
I hope him and this guy never stop
Pretty nice series I guess.I understand they need to train and stuff but it would be nice if there are some other songs they played casually like that title call for the other instruments.
But they're so cute!
>ywn manhandle the fluff
She already did a spin-off with Kumiko's friend from Rikka as the main character.
She also said in an interview that she feels like she has written all she can about this series, but also that if she ever does revisit it that she wants to be careful and do it justice.
I don't think there are any plans for the immediate future. She said she wants to work on other stuff.
As for male main character, not sure. She hasn't written one yet.
That scene where she tried to give someone else's cakes to Nozomi
How can you not know Roboe's issues after they spent four episodes on them.
Reina is a cuck desu
>Has no chance with Taki because he's still fapping to his dead wife
>Doesn't even have Kumiko to fall back on because Asuka swept her off her feet while she was busy drooling over Taki's cock
Not sure how it works in Japan, but in American high school band ensemble there are no string instruments. Not sure why Sapphire-chan was even in the band. Maybe they just threw her in there because she was there and they didn't have an orchestra.
Midori is cute cute!
Kurosawa's little choked up "hai..." here, why is the voice acting in this show so good?
>I'd like to have a male MC if she continues Euphonium.
Well that sounds incredibly dumb,
What went wrong?
Wasn't she kumiko's childhood friend?
Don't bully her she did nothing wrong
Reina of course. I WILL DROWN WITH THIS SHIP.
Looks like this image was an early draft of the OP image
I liked the truly open ending with Shoe and Kumiko. Other anime make it clear that the two like each other, but I can't really discern their feelings here. Is Shoe over Kumiko? Has he given up just when Kumiko is showing some kind of interest? Kumiko looked somewhat disappointed when Shoe denied spreading rumors.
Was kind of weird how hard the show veered from being focusing on Reina so much in s1 to largely ignoring her in s2, and how a lot of unresolved Reina stuff was just kind of ignored.
But I got so see Kumiko throw a daisuki at Asuka, so fuck it. Good enough for me.
Reina's crush aside, she only wanted to make it to nationals and she did, she found a renowned sense of purpose after knowing about Taki's wife and her dream. More than unresolved she was just doing her own thing in the background.
Man every time I see Shuu walking alone it hurts man.
SHE GOT ANOTHER FRAME
Tell me guys. What are they planning here? Are they seriously calling this series quits already now that they finished up the novels?
I know that the author is planning to write more of Eupho but come the fuck on.
This final episode doesn't feel like a total finale at all. A send off yes but god dammit the goal doesn't feel achieved at all. Kumiko only partially broke her shell.
When shoe grows a pair and shows kumiko the power of cock.
Like I said, her character was already at the point where she would have changed but we don't get to see it.
It's so open ended for her.
Compare that to S1 and how it contrasted how she was not exerting that much effort at the start but by the end of it was all gung-ho.
no it's complete she started as this cynic who wanted nothing to do with band and music and actively put barriers between her and people who matter. Now she wants nothing more than to play her Euphonium for herself and the people she cares about.
>So that's what we are, huh? Some kind of sound euphonium.
Yfw you realize the entirety of Season 2 is a flashback when Kumiko opens the notebook in episode 1.
>No more fluff tentacles and noises
>No more deadfish
>No more Seal-chan, Grumpy-chan, Asuka, Kaori, Buchou & Lipstick-chan
>No more seeing the Roboe being a robot
>No more eyeless-chan and her lover glasses-chan
This is a truly sad day today anons. I'll miss this anime and thankfully we have YouTube for the noises.
What does this face convey?
This is something I didn't enjoy about them playing that song for the 3rd years.
I mean, it felt like they were shoving the fact that she lost in Kaori's face again. If things had been the other way around -- that is, Kaori actually was the one who had been playing to solo -- and now the torch was being passed on to Reina to play it, then, in my opinion, THAT would have been moving.
No more seeing Kaori and her glorious body and no more seeing her beauty mark.
>If things had been the other way around -- that is, Kaori actually was the one who had been playing to solo -- and now the torch was being passed on to Reina to play it, then, in my opinion, THAT would have been moving.
Kumiko did play Asuka's solo.
Kumiko and Reina hardly even have a friendship anymore.
Honestly, it feels like Kumiko just sort of tolerates her presence at this point. That scene where Reina completely misunderstands Kumiko's apprehension to let things go as her being upset they didn't get gold. And Kumiko just gives this look like "this nigga". It's ridiculous how little the two of them are on the same page now. It's no wonder Kumiko's moved on to Asuka.
I think they're back to their middle school rapport that Shuu broke back in S1. I guess since they reconciled-ish last episode they were supposed to be back to their deadpan cynical friendship, which was why Shoe is like that again. This time it was Kumiko who wasn't acting normally.
Shuu suddenly disappeared after the other girls arrived and teased them, so I guess he's chickening out yet again but that kinda means he still has a thing for Kumiko.
The adventures of Tanabe in uni drowning in alcohol and sluts when?
Are you people really too retarded to spot bad writing? S2 was full of shit, not saying S1 didn't have it's garbage moments but we had 2 drama arcs in this one with actual stupid plotholes.
>Oboe autists friend leaves the club
>Somehow, even though they're in the same school they don't run into each other for an entire year
>Friend who left club actually thinks that they're still friends and that's nothing wrong at al
>In that entire year she doesn't once question why she's never fucking heard of Oboe-chan or looked for her (you know, sometimes you walk up to friends and ask whats up)
I fucking hate that most anime watchers are so fucking stupid that they can't tell when something doesn't make any sense. Probably too busy shitposting over yuri shipping or whatever.
>Kumiko and Reina hardly even have a friendship anymore.
When people say this kind of thing about Reina, Hazuki, or Midori, I can't help but think how stupid they must be. This is a show, and the show has a purpose, a story that it wants to tell. In this case, the story is about the band drama. It's not about tea time with the girls, it's not about how they spend their time after school, it's not about their dirly chats. It's a show about band drama and Kumiko's development. These characters were involved at some point but there is no reason for them to be involved in absolutely all of the drama that goes on. Hazuki and Midori had their role in S1 making Kumiko insterested in band. Hazuki also had some drama with Shuuichi. Reina had her role in the solo auditions, making Kumiko have passion, and now in her crush drama. Just because the drama moved on to someone else, doesn't mean these characters stop existing or even spending time together. It was implied that they spent time together, you're not supposed to worry about that. It's not a SoL, it's a drama. If you want to watch girls be friends, go watch K-on. It's ironic how people complained with K-on they never played music and only talked, and now with Hibike you complain that they never talked and only focused on the drama.
>not mind readers
I'm not asking them to be.
The point that I was bringing up with that scene was
1. Reina was (no doubt unconsciously) projecting her feelings about the end of the season onto Kumiko. Which isn't terrible but is pretty myopic.
2. Kumiko quietly understood that Reina didn't understand her, BUT in giving a glossed-over reply, she was also being disingenuous. Which is something she often is, but usually not with Reina. If not at least not with Reina before.
How do you even stay awake for this trash
I was actually open to hearing an honest critique of my post, but you really let me down, Anon.
It's just a rambling text wall that seems to come down to you making an argument that the story >>> the characters in this clearly character driven drama. With some thrown in knocks to K-ON for whatever the hell reason.
No cutie entourage.
Why even senpai?
I want to date Grumpy-chan.
We've already complained about the Mizore arc, retard. You aren't telling us shit we haven't complained about before, you would know this if you were active in these threads and not just a shitposter. That said, the rest of the season more than makes up for it.
Taki told Kumiko (right after Reina's handgasm) to prepare to play that part by herself even when Natsuki was supposed to play with her in the nationals. That part didn't sound particularly difficult so I'm guessing the reason she was going to play it by herself is because Asuka played it by herself as well. Also in the performance in episode 5, the camera only showed Asuka play that part, but that doesn't proove anything so whatever.
I think what he's trying to say was they don't have to show "friendship scenes" just to prove that Kumiko and Reina are friends.
I'm the one with the mind reader response btw. One thing that kind of felt lacking from this season was that Kumiko still has her good girl persona on when dealing with Reina. Reina's intial curiosity from S1 with Kumiko still hasn;t yielded results.
was actually confused about it myself tbh
it goes like this:
>reina sperging out in the flashback
>kumiko's high school start
>asuka's shitty marching band
>kumiko gets dragged into the club by irrelevant characters and meets asuka (pic related)
>and THEN she meets reina
so depending on how you look at it asuka could be the first girl
This is your girlfriend for tonight.
Hoping her porn count spikes again.
I was feeling condescending because I had just finished an episode of
Judge Judyso I kinda rambled there, you're right. But still, the idea is that the show is about the drama and not about their girly time together. You're right about it being character driven but that doesn't mean they should just show everything the characters do. They developed the characters as necessary for the drama, like Reina in S1E08, or Nozomi and Mizore in the first arc this season, and Asuka along the way, Mamiko in her arc, etc. They didn't miss out of their characterization. But it's pointless wasting time on irrelevant chatter when that's not the point, or the appeal, of the show. Reina, Hazuki, and Midori never stopped hanging out with Kumiko and they were there when expected as the drama developed (i.e. Reina visiting her when she was sick), why would one think they stopped being friends?
This was the moment that sealed her as best girl
>tfw no more party tricks and witch Asuka
>Taki told Kumiko (right after Reina's handgasm) to prepare to play that part by herself even when Natsuki was supposed to play with her in the nationals
He was talking about this part, which Natsuki understandably wouldn't be able to play.
>Somehow, even though they're in the same school they don't run into each other for an entire year
They weren't in the same class or club, and Mizore was busy practicing before and after school every day.
Besides, it wasn't a whole year.
Huh, makes sense. He did say measure 158 but I didn't care to check and just assumed it was that part. But you're right, it would be hard for Natsuki to catch up in time to play that part.
The Mizore/Nozomi misunderstanding can only be explained by Nozomi's disinterest with Mizore. I don't know what the novels say about this but Nozomi might not consider Mizore such a close friend to end all contact after quitting. They were probably nothing more than classmates and bandmates in middle school. But Mizore being the clingy little duckling she is probably thought they were friends.
Not AoTY by far, but kumiko's voice acting during the last scene, and the scene where she convinces asuka to come back was some of the best I've seen in animu(which isn't saying much, but hey)
>their girly time together
You're still coming off as condescending. Perhaps not to me, but just in general. This is almost definitely beside the point, but character interaction between girls is not "girly time".
To be honest, I'm not even sure what it is you're talking about. Did you read my posts properly? Do you even know what I was referring to in terms of Reina and Kumiko's relationship?
I'll repeat myself if I must but I was talking about the disconnect and lack of honesty between them. Although the latter is mostly on Kumiko's side. And what's wrong with this is that this wasn't something I got the sense of in season one. Especially concerning them being frank and open with each other. Now there seems to have almost been some sort of retrogression.
Which is why I said it's as if the two aren't friends anymore. Althought I'll admit I was exaggerating a bit.
And perhaps more importantly, going from this post and your last one, you seem to see the characters more like tasks in a program, or steps in a ladder, where after they've done their most important part, they can fade away while at the same time henceforth not necessarily having to adhere to the characters we've known them as. That's not very good writing.
Hail Hibike. Gott in himmel.
Ending was extremely well-done.
>This was a recap episode
If you said that, may I remind you this is a +18 board? gtfo. You can come back when you finish HS and tell me honestly you didn't even spend 1 minute reminiscing.
It was a bad ending. It could've been a lot better. Shoe's segment was completely irrelevant. It was a recap episode in the second half.
A lot of the shit in the episode was really unnecessary. Honestly. they should've just focused on one thing rather than going from Kumiko's sister, to shoeitchy, to Asuka
I agree with the program analogy and that ideally characters should be as relevant as possible throughout the story but that isn't the kind of show Hibike is. I actually kind of dislike that Natsuki is VP next year, I was hoping it would be someone less expected, some background character. Something I really like about Hibike is how the whole band was kind of 'present' in the sense that every background character was recognizable and had some sort of continuity. I think it's a shame Takeda fell for the Ribbons x Natsuki meme and made them the president and vicepresident for the next year. I agree with Yuuko being the president but Natsuki reall doesn't belong. In season 1, they gave the bg characters some focus as photographer, treasurer, x part leader etc. I liked that.
>hey let's end episode 12 with Kumiko saying I love you to her sister! So EPIC!
>lets start episode 13 with that to remind them what happened!
>BUT lets make that COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TO THE EPISODE!!!
KyoAni wouldn't make another movie of this, would they?
