When I first announced animation, I watched the animation repeatedly, so it became a very memorable song. What graduation ceremony is doing something a little strange. While this episode was anti-climatic in some ways, I didn't mind it, usually these type of final episodes try to go for the 'life continues' route, but it usually only works when the characters actually feel human so it's not hard to imagine them living their lives outside of the screen. In Hibike's case this isn't an issue since its characterization and development has been some of the best not only in the medium but storytelling in general.

I'm not sure what to think of this season. I can't tell if it was worse, better, or around the same quality as the first season.

From the start it was full of pointless drama that ultimately went nowhere. The mizori/nozomi garbage straight from the beginning was so terrible. While the last season at least gave us some upbeat band segments in the first half and then delved into melodrama in the second half, this did the opposite. I think that a bad ending (like season one's) is worse for an overall product, but the beginning of season 2 was just so bad that I can't forget about it.

season 2 is a 5/10 at best. Maybe a 4/10 if we're being realistic though.

I always knew it, from day 1. Every scene with the two together made it more obvious yet I contained my autism unlike the local peasants. Now I can finally release that autism though, truly the OTP of the show.

I really expected something more than that for the ending. I mean, anime endings often feel like they're just going through the motions if they have no more surprises to offer, but this ending felt like it had no value whatsoever to me. The Asuka/Kumiko ending had to happen that way, with Kumiko seeking her out to have an emotional goodbye and Asuka hoping to avoid it, it can't be helped, I just wish the rest of the episode gave us something to chew on.

I don't care about shipping all that much. Lately I've been arguing in these threads that I'd at least wish the show had been more balanced with what it was doing. For the way it ended up, the Reina scenes in S1 shouldn't have been quite so overblown, and Shoe should have had more scenes in S2. It's no surprise Hibike discussion has so often descended into chaos.

But even so I feel there should have been something more to this episode. It should have been extended like the first episode of S2. It was sorely lacking any sort of reflection from Reina on her situation with Taki. It was also lacking any scenes with Kumiko and Reina reflecting on events generally. Their dialogues have been the most interesting in the show, it's weird they didn't indulge in that for the finale. They shared one brief scene that didn't have much to it, and Reina appearing at the end doesn't even count as a scene featuring her in my opinion.

The scene when Hazuki and Midori were pestering Kumiko about Shoe was odd. When Asuka and Aoi turned up, he just sort of disappeared. What happened there?

I liked when the 3rd years played the jazz tune from the very first PV. That was neat.

I get the symbolism of the 1st and 2nd years playing the song they've played over and over and over throughout the show to the 3rd years, I get it, but that doesn't mean I particularly want to hear it again, much less as a clip show. What a waste of time that was.

Going to have to agree with you here. Ultimately Asuka won the Kumikob owl so hard it's not even funny. It was pretty cute to see how much Kumiko behaved like a girl with a crush in every instant concerning Asuka this entire ep. It was almost like watching the first season again.

However, what bothers me is that romantic or not, I don't really follow Kumiko's feelings. Their relationship has always felt sort of hollow to me, or at least not as close for me to see that "confession" we got this episode coming.

I always thought that Kumiko viewed Asuka as a replacement for Mamiko - an older sister figure who's skill she could look up to.
This is more or less strengthened with the parallels of Asuka planning on dropping out of the band (like Mamiko) to focus on her studies, and Kumiko begging her not to after hearing her sister's regrets.
