How did the TV anime industry go from having one animation director per show to 10+ animation directors per episode? Will the industry eventually collapse like Anno predicted? Soon most airing shows will need to be delayed to meet the schedule. How did it get this bad?

Anime industry will never collapse. Long as theres demand, theres supply.

Given how shitty the profit margins are, there might be industrywide shakedown but beyond that propably nothing.

>Soon most anime shows will be delayed
>Amount of directors per episode

>Anno predicted

The man is a hack who only milks his one successful franchise, why do people even listen to these so called aging experts on a market they barely have any control over themselves?

OP is talking about collapse due to too much work not collapse due to declining income.
>>
>>151495264
Too much demand for shows made per season, and modern anime designs are too complex.
>>
>>151495427
I think the argument is about a collapse in output not a collapse of the entire industry. Over recent years problems associated with rushed production, poor quality, bd retakes, animation errors, missed broadcasts, have only become more and more frequent leading many to believe in the long run this 30-40 anime per season we see currently is unsustainable and something will have to give.

>Despite (or perhaps because of) advances in technology, the production process has became more complicated. Specifically, Ishii cited advances in character design and movement, background detail, and special effects that have “raised the bar on the quality viewers expect.” He also explained that in order to get voice recording done on schedule, production teams must create a rough version of the episode for the voice actors.

>Some series run late from the onset. Ishii mentioned that some series are announced suddenly, or with unrealistic start dates, meaning that the production of the entire series amounts to the production team trying to play catch-up.

> There aren’t enough animators to go around. As followers of our industry coverage know, this is one of the industry’s most pressing issues. Freelance animators are constantly working on multiple series at once, which results in delays when they can’t finish work on time.

>A lack of animators also forces studios to farm out work to subcontractors, added the anonymous runner, which can lead to poor-quality work that needs to be corrected, again leading to delays.

This kind of thing has been happening on Yuri on Ice this season from the beginning and even Flip Flappers now is clearly struggling with the llatest episode going up to 11 animation directors, 2 episode directors, 2 storyboarders, and 39 key animators to get done in time and it showed in the quality of the episode certainly despite there being some good cuts. Early on in the season it only had one animation director per and episode going up to 4 somewhere in the middle as the production schedule started catching up with them.

Welp that's it, had a good run, but anime's now finished.
>>
Now I see why they're so desperate for AI.

Anime is nothing but trash

I don't think anyone is saying anime is done for, just that the current levels of production are pushing the limits and having a detrimental effect on the quality of output. So either the levels of output would need to reduce or the quality of that output will continue to degrade.

I don't think there is a consumer industry on Earth that doesn't suffer from rushing products to meet consumer demand. It's not like it's remotely new either, Eva was made when there was 1/4 as many anime on TV and it has the most famous emergency backup plan fuckshow of an ending ever made.
>>
Anime designs need to be simpler, that's probably the easiest way to help deal with the problem. Modern designs have too many lines for the animators to worry about, especially for hair, eyes, and costumes.

Also if you have ever watched 80s TV anime you will understand that having a small number of shows did nothing to prevent corner cutting and outsourcing.

Nobody is saying there weren't production issues in the past. Just that nowadays they are becoming more common and for a rather specific set of reasons.
>>
Just read manga

there is no reason to watch anime if it's not a movie adaption or katanagatari style
>>
>>151497997
I have no real interest in manga and there is a great reason to watch anime - entertainment and enjoyment.
>>

The anime industry is already collapsing (Japanese econmic bubble crash and shit) when NGE entered the scene. I believe there will be no savior of anime when the anime industry blows over.
>>
Why can't they just cut out most of the useless background porn, and special effects?

Do you have a single fact to support that?
>>

No time series data. It's just commonly held opinion amongst animators based on all the animators I follow on twitter both young and old and seems apparent in the last couple of years.
>>
>>151498398
Yeah but animators are dramatic cunts.

They realized it was a good idea to have back ups in case their main director was a mentally unstable one trick pony.

I lol'd with this one, but you know it's true. Kek confirms.

Tons of anime coming out at once. It'll probably crash and then settle down eventually.
