Lets be honest: How many of you are considering adding Flip Flappers to your 3x3s when the show is over?
Flip Flappers Thread.
It would make it into a 3x3 for the decade to date not one for all time though.
Flip Flappers 1-12 episodes stream.
4PM EST / 9PM GMT time.
Stream will take place on a ustream channel. I'll try to create the new thread closest to the time of the stream. Channel will be linked there.
Here's a countdown to the time of the stream:
We're making a thank you image! The card will be a collection of images into one big image sent to them via Twitter using imgur. The due date for submissions is 12/30/16 at 9:00 am pst. Send all images to [email protected]
600 by 600 pixels
>Why not here? it's an imageboard after all. we'd just have to reply your post.
Its hard trying to shitpost 24/7 to have to go around collecting images
>Why not real postcards? I want to send one. But there needs to be a campaign for it to mean something.
I'm not sure how this would be accomplished so I'm limiting it to digital.
>Who are we sending it to?
@binobinobi the directors twitter
Reminder that the ending is confirmed to suck balls.
Episode 11 is my favorite, so I would put at least up to that. 12 gave us some memorable moments too. For me, It will be in anime of the decade, but not GOAT, unless the ending is great, that finale will make and break the difference between it being one of the best of the decade or it being one of the best of all time.
Any chance of seeing what's been submitted already?
Census-kun here- I made the thing several threads ago. Its not me who is reposting it. I originally only wanted it to last a thread or two or three to satiate my curiosity of how many people in the thread(s) actually liked or disliked the show and by how much- because it was hard to see the truth through all the shit posting following episode 12.
I agree, it has served its purpose and has no reason to continue being posted at this point. Some other anon(s) must be the ones reposting it.
sorry for any trouble this is causing.
It is probably a falseflagger reposting it at this point to try to discredit it by making people hate it.
Only 13 submissions? Damn it /a/.
That's like one guy slowly clapping in a crowd. It's even worse than nothing at all.
>I'm not the only one getting drunk on the stream
I will behave, I promise.
I will join you in getting drunk, although I really wish I had some cannabis
Have you ever watched FliFla..
Consider this: you can use some of the free time you have right now to create something, instead of shitposting, arguing about shitposting, and waiting for the obvious bait replies.
Just do it. Make a card.
You're already dedicated enough to come to these threads
It's not even my AOTS. Why would it be on my 3x3?
>1. Yuri on Ice
Time Bokan 24
S3 and S4 were decent, but not as strong as S1, and S2. S5 was somewhere in the middle so it was pretty relieving.
Tamako Market/Love Story
Natsume Yuujinchou Go
Ok that's pretty fucking gay
>implying Matoi isn't the true, actual AOTS
Flip Flappers is a very close second place and Ikusei Keikaku is third. And everything after that doesn't matter.
>went into edgy battle royale show expecting a laugh from rampant angst and edginess
>now have all LNs on my phone and am halfway through the series
They completely butchered the last episode from the LN's version of events, too.
an avant-garde post-modern helter-skelter aggregation of, more or less, discordant phantasmagorical acid trips laced with yuri fanservice in which all partaking female's breasts are no larger than A cups.
I have a hard time with this. Because I can't recommend it as a fun yuri adventures show since second half is nothing like the first. So if a person would start watching it for that, they'll inevitably get disappointed.
>Ripple killing the shit out of Fav
God, I loved that. Flip Flappers has some big boots to fill if it wants to stay in second place.
You say that like the show wasn't funny. I thought it was pretty funny.
>a regular tripfag and crossboarder circlejerk
>very well made
>random in the good sense
>great characters that end up going nowhere
>takes itself less serious than it should have
>ending is a disaster
Makes perfect sense.
Tama is cute. CUTE.
Can we discuss what happened on the latest ep of Yuri on ice?! I can't believe he died from eating a grape. Really though? Who chokes and dies from grape while on the ice rink? I cried all night
Hmm. I'll wait untill the end. Then I'll decide depending what they do. So much time was spent on flashbacks and Yayaka that I can't really call it a character-driven show about Cocona (at least not a good one). That's a shame. But it can still become for example a yuri love story or a "healing" show (drama?).
Its still a character driven show. Even the flashbacks were shown via character relationships and interactions as opposed to just giving dry exposition (which is what Gurren Lagann and Code Geass, two very popular shows, did with their flashbacks)
What could be gayer than a lesbian dominatrix, nail clippers, horror school that makes you gay, fingersucking, metaphorical weddings, a lesbian succubus and multiple confessions?
It's Madoka but with lesbians
Most of these are random gimmicks thrown in for the fanservice. While for YoI, finding artistic inspiration in the sexual attraction to your male coach, while embracing your inner femininity to make your program more sensual, is pretty damn gay, and I haven't even watched half of it.
Please don't add that one. It was a joke.
I'll do a real one later.
FLFL is gay, but its mostly just hints and repressed emotions.
YoI however is full blown homo and is pretty much a story about gayness.
FLFL is a better show overall- I hope the finale is as good as it deserves to be. With the right finale, FLFL could become a masterpiece.
I you could endure Madoka, then this should be no issue. There is one single episode that pushes it further a bit, but then drops it almost entirely. The finale is thursday, there is still a low chance of a kissu/confession.
>YoI however is full blown homo and is pretty much a story about gayness.
If it has treated (or tried to) its story about homosexuality seriously I kind of regret not watching it.
Lesbian dominatrix was an aspect of Mimi's personality and used to highlight an aspect of Cocona's which was important to the story.
Nail clippers were also a reference to her father's hobbies and a subtle partial fulfilment of Cocona's wish to meet her parents.
Gay horror school was a genre critique and foreshadowing that the romance in FF would get complicated.
Lesbian succubus reflected an aspect of the main character's psyche as part of a complex character study and developed the central romance while tying in to the main theme of making decisions (about the nature of her feelings towards Papika in this case) instead of going with the flow.
Its okay I wont add it.
We now have 28! cards. I rather not post each of them individual so I'll update the collage. Thank you for your submissions.
While you may be right about a kissu, >confession
That was literally last episode, though i expect it to be explored further in the finale
Nobody would get mad if I would make my card entirely on the computer instead of hand-drawn, right? I have an idea that I could never make work with my underdeveloped drawing skills.
Still, it's nowhere near the level of two characters wanting to fuck each other in the ass, or whatever the lesbian analogue would be. "Confessions" are not very relevant either, since they are but acknowledgements of friendship at this point. "Suki", not "ai".
All the dick envy jokes really made me think. I think Papika would have loved it to have a dick when she was on the run with Mimi so she could stick it into her. But mainly not for Mimi, but for touching the unborn Cocona from Mimi's insides with her cock. Yeah.
>touching the unborn Cocona from Mimi's insides with her cock
Yes, the show is very very good, but not perfect. It has some flaws with pacing, and a lot seem to agree that certain priorities were misplaced (side characters have been getting more development and screen time in the past few episodes than the main cast), but despite these flaws, most agree it is still a really great show worthy of love.
Wait what? Cocona has friends other than YYK?
>Lets be honest: How many of you are considering adding Flip Flappers to your 3x3s when the show is over?
Please don't put "3x3" in the OP. I didn't see the thread at first because I have those threads filtered.
>done with lots of love
I was not aware that ~40 key animators slaving away was what constituted love but you are not wrong. The love of the director does shine in every episode
I feel like the story and twists would have made this a nice little seasonal anime if they paced the exposition across all episodes instead of hard dumping it starting at ep 9.
But 1-9 are just so slow and the story is so subtle that it almost doesn't exist unless you have an imageboard to analyze each episode frame-by-frame for a week.
Its the way the technologies are going now, you know.
It's obvious FF is set in the near future so it's a logical evolution.
is mentioning the census banned now? I am sorry anon
Unfortunately the show dropped senpai hard in favor of worthless characters like Nyunyu.
Are we discussing the show or just metaposting?
I think the level of technology in the setting is unique to Asclepius, and is directly related to Papi&Mimi dicking with Saltdad's brain. The shot of him scrawling formulas and diagrams over the walls happens near immediately after he pops out of the tape deck.
I think Papi and Mimi wanted to help him the same way Coco and Papi wanted to help Iro-senpai. They probably were shown something that was preventing his intellectual growth or bridged some gap that was keeping him from an answer. So he hops out, instantly knows more advanced science than any other human being has ever known, and he knows exactly why he does.
Of course he dedicates himself to developing technology and a field of science that was completely unknown until then. Wouldn't you?
>yayaka's argument is that he knew Cocona longer
>Papika actually knew Cocona since she was born
Asclepius implies something related to medicine. They had
>robots built with that technology
It's possible that Asclepius was originally a medical institution.
Asclepius was around and experimented with Mimi long enough for Salt to grow up from a young boy into a full adult scientist. Only Salt'd dad lost his mind while the rest were still scientists. I assume every technology they developed was meant for PI research.
Just to be clear, this is the start of episode 1 and you are aware of how things will turn out.
I remember when some guy was saying Yayaka was transexual because she applied to an all boys high school
Right- I mean look at the difference 14-15 years makes for Asclepius, you go from admittedly high security science facility with recognizable computing systems to an arguably technotheistic/MIMItheistic cult, complete with: MRI machine that pops out dream kids, fully functioning robot grandmas that can perfectly emulate human mannerisms for years at a time, at-will portals to Pure Illusion and a GIANT MINIMALIST UNDERGROUND BASE WITH A MASSIVE BLACK TOWER that sucks up otherworldly hunks of God.
That seems like too abrupt of a jump to be explained by much of anything else besides a mad scientist creating incredible technologies as the world conquest plan demanded them- seemingly trivially easy to create in blind pursuit of his noble goal, like turning on a light so you can read a book.
that makes a lot of sense.
I like how its not revealed exactly what they did inside his head, which makes it more disturbing, but I'm fairly certain that they were trying to help him, and based on what you say, trying to unlock his intellectual growth is probably what happened in some form.
And then they choked when it mattered most, with their magnum opus defecting to the enemy in 3 seconds.
I already did the ED on the Famicom so I figured I'd make a simple tribute image on the MSX
>MRI machine that pops out dream kids
If you're talking about this then it was their PI hole generator/stargate.
Mimi destroyed it to remove the competition and ensure that PI was "only for Cocona".
I have a friend that wanted to do it but they haven't started yet, so if they don't soon I'll try. I was doing Over the Rainbow but my mood's been ruined and I've lost the will to continue. Why cover such a happy song when the ending is so likely to completely subvert it?
I'm sending it to card anon.
>Why cover such a happy song when the ending is so likely to completely subvert it?
Happy memories are still happy, right anon?
Even if we get a happy end, I will still be sad because this wonderful show will be over. And before long, these fun threads with all the wonderful Anons will be gone too....
Ah, okay. I guess we don't have an explanation for exactly how the amorphous children are created then? Besides "muh Pure Illusion". Maybe Toto and Yuyu are more diligent and mission-focused because KKK had the time to either craft them properly, or train/condition them properly.
I feel like Nyunyu was made/born on the spot, hence no training and no beating the free spirit out of her like what must have happened to some effect for the other two. In that way, she reminds me of Papika a lot, especially the "does not understand the concept of endangering others" Papi had in ep1.
I'm imagining her popping out of the vat wearing exactly what she has on and the people in charge are just like "wow, really? Eh, fuck it, send her with the others- she's more likely to follow orders than Yayaka, at least."
We only have what Yayaka told us in ep10. They first tried implanting amorphous powers in children but gave up since everyone except Yayaka died. Then they moved on genetically engineering them which is where NyuYuTo came from. We can assume that they have some method of accelerating the engineered clone's aging process unless they pursued engineering as an alternative long before it became clear that implantation was impractical.
>Ah, okay. I guess we don't have an explanation for exactly how the amorphous children are created then?
I don't think we have the exact process but Yayaka said that they were genetically engineered with amorphous abilities. So some speculation is that this means mimi genes spliced with normal DNA or something?
I already got a big adventure that I am going on next year. I mentioned in a previous thread, but I am the anon who has a job lined up in Japan and will be moving there in July.
>Maybe Toto and Yuyu are more diligent and mission-focused because KKK had the time to either craft them properly, or train/condition them properly.
I think Yuyu was only pretending to be loyal (or rather, there was no reason to not follow the order since they had nothing else to do). She tell the KKK man to fuck off without any hesitation. Asclepius for the twins is much more of a place to belong than to Yayaka yet they don't feel conflicted at all. The scene when Yuyu trolls Cocona shows that she can be pretty devious.
I was still too hype from this to notice how rushed the last few minutes were. To think that I didn't even like YYK before the last few episodes, and now I can't get enough of this scene. Redeemed Yayaka is top fuckin tier.
I noticed the last few minutes my first time through, but it didn't bother me too much other than the nagging feeling that "that scene could have been done better".
Looking forward to episode 13.
nice job, anon.
meanwhile, I found a tiny typo error of Japanese on the pic related.
ココ"ン"のこと大大大好き(I love love LOVE Coco"n")
it should be:
ココ"ナ"のこと大大大好き(I love love LOVE Coco"na")
This is awesome. Based Mob Psycho animator.
If there is no PV I am hoping part 2 of this will at least give some information.
At the bottom it says it will be updated today with a part 2 which will talk about the final episode. So maybe we will get some hints from it.
Hey /a/, what if...
Season 2 is confirmed at the end of next episode?
Japan doesn't fear spoilers like we do. In fact, the Japanese prefer to have as much spoiled as possible if possible. I on the other hand, do not. I will probably leave this thread tonight and not return until 13 airs. Might drop in during the rewatch marathon though.
I'll postpone my suicide.
Updated the collage! This time we have 30 images!
Make sure to email submissions to [email protected]
if you don't want to use a personal email use https://www.guerrillamail.com/
>papika gone from the world
>cocona only one who remembers
>she visits Yayaka one day, she doesn't remember Papika, but has a vague feeling someone she knows is missing
>the meeting finally gives Cocona the strength to visit the pipe again
>she opens a portal to PI there, just as she's about to enter, Yayaka arrives to join her
>to be continued
Since we are already here can you add this one to the card?
Here's my shitty submission, cardanon!
I have no artistic talent, but I still tried to make something nice. Is it good enough?
I'm gonna get memed for saying this but, I wish Yuniko was still writing. She had more restraint and an appreciation for subtlety. Ever since she left all the yuri has been way too on-the-nose.
It's kind of 50/50 for me in wanting Yuniko's writing, i do enjoy some of her more subtle approaches to yuri, but at the same time some of the "on-the-nose" stuff the new writer has done is really good at forcing the antiyurifags to scrape the bottom of the barrel for their shitposting, which is always good for a laugh.
Another submission. The art feels similar to something I've seen before.
I feel like Papika has basically turned into a walking ball of catchphrases since episode 9. The "daidaidaisuki" thing has been overplayed, and just about every piece of dialogue she's had from 10 onwards has been awkward and kinda vacuous.
I don;t know if that;s the fault of the new scriptwriter or the director, though. At first I assumed it was a product of the director trying to subtly portray the ways in which Papika's personality changed upon regaining her memories, becoming more restrained and temperate. But at this point it's pretty clear that it's just been the awkward face-falling of a writer that's been struggling to make a genki and happy-go-lucky character sound dramatic and serious.
I don't want to say that I'm really feeling that writer change, but I do feel like the character dialogue has in some cases taken a significant downturn starting at episode 10.
Because she wants Cocona to know that she always loved her and that it wasn't because she was a substitute for Mimi? Cocona was special to her from the second she knew her name. If she was just using Cocona as a replacement, she wouldn't say what she said.
>Cocona was special to her from the second she knew her name
Thus the line could be
>I loved since I first saw you
And the specifics of when and how Papika saw her is left for the audiences. And there would be no confusion about being born or not .
>And the specifics of when and how Papika saw her is left for the audiences
I'm not saying your suggestion is a bad one, but I would probably assume that it was specifically when she was born anyway considering what we had seen before that moment. Oh well
Focusing on being born narrows the scope of the love to just motherly love (goodmimi practically made Papika her godmother). This line should cover all stages of the evolution of the love (motherly love, love of gratitude, love of duty, romance).
>awkward and kinda vacuous
>quality of the presentation
I thought being awkward and vacuous is exactly in character when she was in that situation? Why is there an issue with quality?
Not him but I don't think it does exclude all other types of love besides motherly. Stating that doesn't specify the type of love at any point in time. It can be true that in one life you loved someone in one way and in another you love them in another. Even if that is slightly odd and uncomfortable but then it's an odd situation.
>The "daidaidaisuki" thing has been overplayed
It was used in episode 12 and in episode 3. Where else was it used? I think it was used a couple of other times, but I dont think it was used more than 2 or 3 times outside of 12 and 3.
>but I do feel like the character dialogue has in some cases taken a significant downturn starting at episode 10
Well the writer 'change' happened way back at episode 6- so if you only started noticing at episode 10, then its not the writers fault.
>At first I assumed it was a product of the director trying to subtly portray the ways in which Papika's personality changed upon regaining her memories, becoming more restrained and temperate.
This was the effect for me and what I think happened. I dont really see any issues with the writing. The only issues I have with the show is that every once in a while the pacing feels a bit off- this isn't exclusive to 12 either, I felt it in early episodes of the series too, its just 12 hits harder because its such a pivotal moment that happened to get hit with less than optimal pacing.
based futanon delivers us from that dilemma.
I like to think that with Mimi's powers, she could accidentally create a fetal clone of herself during the height of climax. Like Papika rocked her world so hard that her instincts went fight-or-flight while her adrenaline was rushing and her bladder was voiding and her subconscious went full self-preservation mode thinking that it was facing an orgasm apocalypse, creating a tiny fetal clone of itself to protect some part of its consciousness from pleasure overload.
That's why Cocona looks almost exactly like Mimi. Her eyes are murky and brown because somewhere deep in the depths of her mind, Cocona is still experiencing the climax that conceived her.
Salt got to watch, lucky guy.
Are those Papika's kids, or her grandkids?
But it's not Mad Max, it's Hokuto no Ken. They made this so blatantly obvious yet people keep fucking it up. It's like those faggots who go around calling everything a JoJo reference simply because it has wacky poses.
>the jail scene
>the visual direction
It was all straight from from Hokuto no Ken.
You know, if we think about it logically, even if Papika was born before Cocona, currently, she's younger than her in every way, even if we account her past memories.
Going by the previews, we know that Papika got deaged. So, as far as her body goes, she's a few months younger than Cocona.
Furthermore, if we take maturity into account, Cocona seems to have considerably more life experience than Papika, even if we factor Papika's previous life into this. This is because we know Papika's previous life was pretty much limited to that research centre. She knows very little of the world, and her experiences are pretty much limited to the experiments she and Mimi took part of.
In her current life, going by the preview, it seems she spent about 7-8 years imprisoned, meaning she's had even less freedom than she did in her previous life.
So, regardless of having lived 2 lives, Papika's experience is minimal, whereas Cocona's life experience does correspond to that of a girl her age.
So, Papika is both physically and mentally younger than Cocona.
The counterargument people use is that since Papika has incorporated the memories of Papikana she is mentally as old as Papikana. Not that I agree with it but it's an argument.
This is actually addressed in this interview.
The interviewer calls it a Mad Max reference and then Cocona's VA mentions people calling it both Mad Max and Fist of the North Star.
>The counterargument people use is that since Papika has incorporated the memories of Papikana she is mentally as old as Papikana.
Yeah, but I did mention that as "Papikana" her life experience was very limited.
So, even if we add those memories, her experience in life is still less than Cocona's (well, socially speaking that is, since Papika was shown good at survival).
>Cocona's VA mentions people calling it both Mad Max and Fist of the North Star.
S-she reads our threads?
Legitimately my favorite scene in the whole show.
This is mine. Love everything about it. Tense as fuck, drama bombs and reveals dropping everywhere, DAT FUCKING OST.
Edge of my seat the entire time.
You believe that I don't believe you, and while you believe that the fact that I don't believe you isn't important, you believe that the fact that you believe that I don't believe you is very important, I believe?
My favourites were any scenes like this one.
These scenes made my chest feel warm, like it hasn't felt in quite some time.
You're witnessing people fall in love, anon. It's a foreign feeling to us all.
This scene is good not just because it's dramatic. The parallels of the present time to second impact and the duality of Mimi are masterfully portrayed with flashbacks and visual cues.
There was a blog collecting mostly /u/ and less /a/ but they has stopped probably because there is too much shitposting going on here. 2ch has dedicated antithreads while here it's dominated by shitposts.
I wonder if you're correct.
I mean, seeing Papika and Cocona in scenes like this make me feel really happy, even though it's not me receiving the love.
It's a really nice form for warmth.
They stopped suddenly and without a word, I think school and life responsibilities just got in the way of translating thousands of posts of dense internet vernacular from ephemeral conversations happening across multiple boards simultaneously almost 24/7.
Their task was a herculean one, especially after the show started really getting popular here.
I would go even further, and say that the scene is strong because of flashbacks earlier in the episode and in episode 10. We feel the tension because we know both of these characters, because we were shown (and not necessarily told) their relationship and how it developed, the complexities, and the hardship. Because of being shown their history, we could feel the tension in the confrontation even though not much was said in the confrontation itself- we could FEEL the hesitant resentment from Mimi when she said she didn't need Salt anymore, and know exactly from where in their past history that was coming from and why, and feel and relate to it because we got to experience it as well.
I love it. This show really does handle "set-up/build up" and "pay off" aspects of story telling really well, consistently, throughout the show.
In fact, it is because that specific aspect of story telling has been so consistently strong throughout the series that I still naively hold out hope for a kissu or something of similar impact.
>friend flew to Japan for C91
>he's gonna get FLFL merch and I will never have the opportunity to get any for myself
I wanna die guys
I get a big stupid grin every time they hold hands. What a wonderful little love these two share.
They may sound silly, but they're about complaining about all aspects you don't like about a particular topic.
in a way, it's more organised than all the asspain we get here, because we just don't like having to deal with opposing views.
Why don't you have him buy it for you, and then you pay him when he returns?
