I can't relate to him. I can relate to Satou, or, say, Yoshikage Kira (as one who wants a quiet life), even if these are villains. Kei just does meaningless stupid shit, not taking any motivation far enough to make him well-fleshed out, and wins through random shit thrown in for the sake of the plot. I'd understand if he got some kind of transparent character development, but the writer's attempts at it mostly failed.

Yes, I can't. So the question that remains through the whole anime is, why the fuck he does what he does? Even something simple like "I enjoy playing games", "I want to save my lover", "I fight for justice" or "I want to live a quiet life" would suffice, if taken to the logical end. But his love for quiet life was as half-assed as everything else he did.

I mean in the manga his personality does a whole 360 turn out of no where, which was kind of a sudden. I think after that, I began to like him more. His actions began to have more motives, and I it was easier to understand why he did the things he did.

He becomes more calculating and sociopathic, put I think it was a positive direction for his character. He's pretty likeable to me, at least from the manga perspective.
