So in the end the Ajins don't lose their personality/memory when their heads are cut off? Cool ending btw, Satou-san will have more fun.

>So in the end the Ajins don't lose their personality/memory when their heads are cut off?
>Personality
Well the guy is a fucking psychopath, I think that's genetic to a large degree.
>>
>>151450330
It's not about getting a new personality, it's about having to watch your body regenerating a new head while the you in your old head is still alive, even if only for a little while.
A new self as in there are now two of you, not a different self.

Also how the fuck did Satou not revive immediately after he jumped into the chipper, and thus destroy the container that contained his hand (the same way he opened up a hole in the wall of the panic room), when he was infiltrating Forge Security?

What happens when an Ajin dies of old age?
Are they then dead for good? Is this how Satou will go down?
>>
How the fuck did that bomb inside Satou not detonate when they rained hellfire on him from above?

Americans didn't even bother to X ray his body while they had him under, amateur hour.
>>
>>151450733
Not necessarily. There are probably souls in this universe so you'd retain the same self for every revive, even decapitation. Souls aren't bound by space-time, especially in eastern reincarnation stuff.

Philosophically, it's impossible to answer whether Satou "died" and there's just a second Satou with all his memories intact.

But did you notice what he called Tanaka at the end?

It's not about souls, and it's not about eastern reincarnation. It's about the atheistic standard of the idea.

If your body regenerates skin, flesh, and blood cells over your lifetime until there are none of the originals left in your body, are you dead? No. If your heart stops for a while and is then restarted, are you dead? No. And, by the same logic, an Ajin does not 'die' when they are killed normally. It's medical reparation, even if the mechanism is not understood.

However, if you got a heart transplant wherein you received a clone of your own heart, and your old heart died outside the body (as is standard), is your heart dead? Yes. The functioning heart in the body may be referred to as 'your heart', but it is not the same heart that was destroyed. You are biologically alive without your own heart.

The 'mind' is generally said to exist in/as the brain, right? So if you had your head cut off [and killed] and had an exact identical head transplanted onto the stump and revived, is your mind still alive? No. But are you alive? Yes.

This is the logic on which Kei operates, and the logic which Satou seemingly willfully ignores.
>>
>>151456193
Well to be fair, neurons and a good portion of your body are never replaced. you keep about 23% of cells/body parts from when you're 18 until death.
>>
>>151456264
Which is why I made that a separate article from the brain bit.
>>
>>151450330
We've known that for months.

Satou fucking jumped into a woodchipper to teleport into a building and was just fine.
>>
The Ajin death scenario is similar to the Teleportation Question.

If Teleportation existed, but it worked by destroying your body and perfectly reconstructing it somewhere else - then are "you" still alive, or did the machine simply kill you and make a clone.

Ajin fear beheading because it represents an actual, real death - but of course it's only a source of fear because Satou frames it that way. If nobody thought about it, nobody would care and there wouldn't be any difference.

It's basically an absolute where no others exist, so Ajin will avoid it if they can, especially if they believe in Hell.

He actually wants Kei to realise that being decapitated shouldn't impose any moral issues and the same as your regular ol' death
It's one of the reasons he wants to decapitate him so bad
>>
>>151456752
That's a radically different question. Reconstruction is the principle upon which Ajin is founded. The question that you're thinking of (or should be) is this one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swampman

>The experiment runs as follows:
>Suppose Davidson goes hiking in the swamp and is struck and killed by a lightning bolt. At the same time, nearby in the swamp another lightning bolt spontaneously rearranges a bunch of molecules such that, entirely by coincidence, they take on exactly the same form that Davidson's body had at the moment of his untimely death.
>This being, whom Davidson terms "Swampman," has, of course, a brain which is structurally identical to that which Davidson had, and will thus, presumably, behave exactly as Davidson would have. He will walk out of the swamp, return to Davidson's office at Berkeley, and write the same essays he would have written; he will interact like an amicable person with all of Davidson's friends and family, and so forth.

>>151452991
What bomb? He, probably, broke his arm, killed himself, arm regenerates and penetrates costume. Like he did with saferoom in manga. Explosion time skipped.
>>
>>151455691
Anyone?
Why did he change Tanaka's name to Tanabe?

Is it implying that his memories actually have been altered after all? Or did I miss something about Tanaka?
>>
>>151457157
Haven't watched it yet, but probably just a dumbass oversight.
>>
>>151457278
>oversight
>the voice actors forget their lines and what their characters' names are
no?
>>
>>151457067
You hear distinct beeping when he does something. You could make the argument it's the life support system, in which case the guards would've been notified.
The arm thing doesn't make sense since the anime didn't go over how that works yet, it'd be seen as an asspull more than in the manga, not to mention he didn't even move at all.
What would've made the most sense would be for him to use his IBM, but the place might've been humid or something to stop that I dunno.
>>
>>151456193
Your consciousness stops or dies multiple times every night during NREM sleep. "You" are not your brain, you are an emergent property of a special type of brain activity. If we accept that souls exist in this universe(likely due to the way the ajin mechanics work and because it's a japanese show), then it's a given that as consciousness fades in the severed head and boots up in the new head the soul also transfers.
>>
>>151458253
What I mean by how the ajin mechanics work is that the body is either reconstructed based on a past time where it was in perfect shape, but they retain memories from right up until they died even though their body from that time would be horribly injured. This means that their brain and body are being reconstructed based on different "blueprints". It would be very odd indeed if they were being reconstructed based on something in space-time for the mind and body to be copied from different sources, so we can posit that the source is outside of space-time, ie the soul. There is also their ghosts which are based on their minds at the very least but more likely their souls given that they don't obey the laws of physics.
>>
>>151458640
>being reconstructed based on different "blueprints ... we can posit that the source is outside of space-time ...
Invijiburu Burakku Mattaa, genius
>>
>>151458253
So has it been figured out how memories work?

Is it some electrical charge in your neurons that hold the information or is it some actual physical thing in your brain?

I don't hee how being reconstructed would reconstruct your memories as well
