LLS is the show with highest production values this year, by far. KyoAni cant even compare. It wins by share QUANTITY of animation, also its mostly subtle character animation and just everything to make things in focus move. Still has great animation and anyone looking at the list of people working on it would shut up - the rest just cant compete with Bandai money and Sunrise went all out here knowing it`ll sell. Similarly LL movie is actually better animated than K-On movie (also itself a poor rip off).

Cheer Danshi is by far the best animated sports anime this year - also its also one most didnt bother to watch. Highly praised Haikyu here for example loses to both it and DAYS.

Flying Witch had large amount of fluid character animation very well done, though was not a fancy show by any means.

3gatsu on other hand have lot of fancy animation bits, at times with "overanimation" with Shaft desperately trying to be expressive. Those dont save the show though.

Alderamin had very good combat and other animation "bits", so stood out.

Drifters animation is more stylistic applicance, not very fluid - but visually impressive.

Luck and Logic had some VERY good animated combat scenes, and some nice ecchi scenes - with quality felt in other ones: Dogakobo did put some effort into it, though quality differed from scene to scene wildly.

Love Live in general just uses a terribly boring form of animation. While it's obviously a Japanese production, LL is animated with similar ideas to American animation in that everything is safe and clean and there are no strong variations or notable animation quirks. It's pretty to look like on a superficial level but even if it gets the biggest budget in the world it'll never impress as much as the sakuga moments in shows like Mob Psycho and Rolling Girls.

I personally value effort put into animating particular scenes, even if they dont look too fancy you can see how much work is put into them, how difficult it is to do particular things etc.

This is for example why i rate Bones animation weakly - Mob 100 and Concrete Revolution just look lazy to me, since they are actually easy to animated and in composition and choreography unimaginative. Its lot harder to make a subtle scene with right camera movement, weight, effects than scribble random cool looking "animation" people praise so often.

In fact, i`d rate quality of how explosions are done in anime higher than action itself - you can immidiately see who just does shortcuts and who actually puts effort. FX is was important sakuga aspect from the start, in fact at times the most important.

But that's not something you can actually judge from the perspective of a viewer. The amount of effort put into a piece of animation is not necessarily evident from the animation itself. Even a piece that you might believe to be "lazy" could've taken an animator a lot of time and effort to get right.

Production IG didnt do anything of worth since Gartantia and it was 5 years ago.

Since they they just do fujoshi sports anime and their attempts at something else fail as Maria and Joker game.

Also not that "production ig" is no more. IG Port is actual holding company, and Production IG is just one studio of along with Xebec, WIT, dead Bee Train etc.

Wit and Xebec, for all their downsides produce actually better and more ambitious shows than Production IG in last decade. The only relevant IG attepts to do something were Arise and Break Blade, both disappointing.
