why wont they stop?
>>
Because people like it.
>>
>>151288115
>Fantasy world without RPG mechanics
>There are still RPG holdovers like guilds and quest boards

It's too bad the Japs have no exposure to fantasy except from RPGs. I mean hell Lodoss War was one of the first Jap original high fantasy book and that was just a bunch of sessions from D&D turned into a book.
>>
>>151288115
That's just Japan for you. One day 1 or 2 of those had a massive success, so everybody tried to copy it to oblivion to milk the trend senselessly, until it crashes.

It's the same for every shit that encounters some success in Japan, especially if it's unexpected.

I still remember all the companies trying to copypaste their own versions of the PSP's Monster Hunter, and failing at it in a ridiculous way, just as an example.

>>151289830
Yep. I can think of a bunch of isekai stories with actual quest boards in adventurer guild buildings.

Off the top of my head, Overlord, The New Gate, Mushoku Tensei all come to mind.
>>
>>151289778
There is not necessarily feudalism, it's a fantasy world after all

I like them. RPG mechanics are the coolest when not done wrong and just spam with bots.
>>
>>151290443
No, there's low fantasy and sometimes sci-fi. Fantasy is always the most popular so you'll see it more often than not.
>>

The problem is that Blizzard would never accept to give up the control of the production of this anime to a contracted studio. Or, more exactly, even if they did they would never give up the control on stuff like scenario or designs.

And considering Blizzard's current writing skills...

That's why Accel World is vastly superior Kawahara's more popular series
>>
>>151292971
Its mainly superior because the MC isn't a gary stu to live out wish fulfillment fantasies. Haru gets a lot of hate for being a wimp but he's a thousand times better written than Kirito

Because it's literally EZ mode for exposition. Think about it, the hardest thing for fantasy is convincing the reader that the world is worth investing time in. You have to carefully write a story that explains how the world works and why it's interesting without going "THIS IS X. THEY DO Y."

RPG mechanics allow you to completely negate that because you can use new players as a blatant method of exposition and not have to worry about a thing.
>>
>isekai

>>
>>151289830
I don't think I've encountered a "quest board" in D&D. Town Cryer sure, ye olde inn, yes. But no actual job boards.

Elder Scrolls has Fighter/Mage/Merchant/Thieves guilds.

>>
>>151295801
you find them in a lot of other animu/manga than >>151290059 too, like konosuba, goblin slayer or danmachi (first ones coming too mind)

I don't really remember a lot of western-made fantasy RPGs having actual quest boards, apart from the Witcher series.

>>
>>151296813
I think the question is more like "Why do people like poorly written, repetitive and creatively bankrupt stories that are nothing but hollow power fantasies for angsty teenagers who want to believe they're actually super special and everyone loves them."

Surely you don't think everyone here and who watches anime in Japan is a stupid kid, right?
>>
>>151288115
Why can't they be original and have someone who has no idea about what RPG mechanics are be the protagonist? It's always some faggot self-insert who's super clever and uses his powers in oh so clever ways that no one would ever think about in a million years despite being really simple, even in the comedic stuff like Konosuba. It'd be more funny if, like, some fucking salaryman who has never played a video game in his life being forced to deal with RPG bullshit.

I loved this series, I'm not done yet (like 2 episodes from finishing)
But it handled the setting really well.
The main characters have depth and good arcs and even side characters get a bit of that.

I also love the pacing, its really slow and calm and it's a nice slow burn that just makes you feel like you're being eased into the world.

The backgrounds are top notch too.
I never would've expected it from A-1
>>
>>151288115
You think this is new? You think this is different? I've read a mountain of published American fantasy over the decades that was blatantly "My D&D Campaign: The Novel". If they weren't using a thin expy of D&D spell memorization rules there'd be a ranger in studded leather armor with dual scimitars and an animal companion on the first fucking page.

Here's a secret. Most writers aren't very original and just write what they already know. Here's another secret. Most readers don't WANT originality and prefer comfortably familiar ground rules for their settings. So space ships dogfight like WWII fighter planes, all non-humans are monocultures, are fantasy worlds work like whatever fantasy RPG people are playing the most.

I'm a little annoyed that the title is Grimgar. Last I heard, they figured out a way to escape the world and jumped to a new one. Japanese people fail at creativity, they can only do incremental innovations: they'll take an existing concept and just make some minor change, while keeping everything intact. This leaves us with some really weird premises, but with lots and lots of overused tropes.

Some isekais have interesting ideas, but they end up all looking the same because everything aside the minor change was copied from other stuff. It's not uncommon to use other stuff as reference, but when everyone uses the same "baseline", it gets overused fast.

Maybe you wouldn't be so annoyed at this kind of stuff if you also tried to vary the kind of stuff you consume. If you stick to only watch shounen isekai LN adaptations, you're the one to blame for being stuck with repetitive stuff.

I'm not saying you're retarded for liking a skill taking series, I'm saying you're retarded for missing the point in a story where characters are presented to us already being strong and not needing training arcs to visibly show or explain why how they got strong.

It's what they do with that strength that's important, not how they got it. Especially not when that strength can be acquired by gaining exp, leveling up, and distributing skill points for 8 hours straight, every day, until you hit the limit. Sword Art Online and Log Horizon are LITERALLY games that became fantasy worlds. It's not surprising they can become strong by being GOOD AT GAMES.

There's nothing wrong with having fun from poorly written stories or bad tropes. I just got angry that you missed the main purpose of Log Horizon. You come off as the obnoxious kind of brat that eats hot-blooded shounen fighting series, or revels in edgy power fantasies where a ridiculed MC gives someone deserved comeuppance. Or specifically, the kind of person that believes a series to be bad because you specifically did not like it or the genre.

People don't really want DnD influence in anime.

They want MODERN DnD influence.

Japanese anime is filled with oldschool dnd reference and old school western rpg reference, however since there seems to be many trendy children in here, they fail at recognizing these older master pieces. They simply want anime to pander to the modern trendy dnd sets.

It goes to show how pathetic this generation of nu-/a/ is.

>>
>>151303455
Old School DnD is more concerned with the actions and what is happening locally than the actual lore, which you are supposed to flesh out with your own imagination.
Relationships, your PCs actions and the adventure itself is more important. The history, mechanics and lore in term of town or monsters aren't and you are supposed to make it up as you go along. They do give you a basic structure in setting but you are suppose to flesh everything out yourselves.

Modern DnD have rules for everything since manchildren can't into imagination and can't into creative thinking by themselves and must have everything explain slowly to them.
Lore is more important because manchildren like to argue whose fictional character is better than whose fictional character.

Shingeki no Bahamut is one of the one school DnD style while modern DnD is probably Grimgar.

Because Isekai are the Call of Duty of anime.

Generic pandering fantasy for people to insert into, that does not take any risks, challenge the hero or make him evolve/grow up, or force the hero to earn his happy ending through suffering and effort.

I wonder what the Spec Ops: The Line/Don Quixote of Isekai would be.

CoD is still close to 15+ years in popularity. It came up during the endless FPS game release in early 2000s.

CoD is not "recent" in terms of game popularity. Maybe a better analogy would be MOBA like league of legends. MOBA/League newer than CoD and have much more popularity amongst people.

Still Isekai as a genre is very new and it will phase itself out in few more years.

To be fair, a lot of Isekai/RPG writers completely disregard the whole point of there being classes and levels
Like in SAO, kirito soloing bosses.
Literally no point in the story being based on an MMO if that is ever even close to feasible.
Even if kirito was overleveled then that raises the question of why no one else was. There's being the best player, then there is being the only competent player. In real life MMOs there is never a clear #1 player in an MMO. Zezima non-withstanding.

>>151304839
If you've played any MMO game, you'd realize there are hackers and OP skills that allow gamebreaking things. You could solo raid bosses in WoW during certain events with certain classes in a certain way, same content level. Ofcourse they patch/fix those quick, but it happens in almost every mmo. There are gamebreaking items/skills/classes. Only game where classes are balanced with no bugs/abuse is one thats constantly updated regularly and fixes those within a day or two.
>>
>>151304839
>To be fair, a lot of Isekai/RPG writers completely disregard the whole point of there being classes and levels
That's completely untrue and I 100% think you have no idea what you're talking about now because classes and levels are the most important thing to a MC's power.

>>151304839

CBEN technically had one. The creators created a pointlessly high spec difficulty mission and promised a monetary reward to the first 200 clears. This guy named Suguri was the first to clear it in a group and solo. I remember romanticizing it and comparing him to Orca and Balmung from .hack.

>New new thing doesn't always mean better.
No it doesn't, but I'm willing to take a chance on the new. Entertainment is a fleeting feeling (for me anyway), so I usually love seeing something new, even if it's worse than its predecessor. I mean, I really enjoyed the first RPG-stats in reality manga I read, but now it's a bit stale for me. Perhaps I'm just being too fickle.
>>
>>151304990
If you really love seeing something new, then you should love Isekais since they're the newest thing.

I suspect you don't love the new things but rather abhor it, so instead, everytime something changes, you always hate it. You wish for something new instead. When you get that new thing, you instantly hate it, and the cycle repeats.

This is a poor man's mindset. Poor in terms of mental development. Your heart will always be filled with longing and never actually be fulfilled.
>>

The LN is shit too. Don't kid yourself. Japan can't write for shit hence why the only international media they tend to sell well with is high octane or animu with basic premises.

Japan cannot create interesting media otherwise. They don't know the problems that writing 'and then momonga did a heart grasp because it was his favourite attack but also because it would give him an idea of how erect his penis was but his penis was too great and he destroyed the guards asshole as he wondered why his metal anus ring was not enchanted with anti-penetration magics to prevent the extra damage that busting his fat ass with his cock would achieve'.

That's how every LN sounds. Maybe it's a problem with the translators being shit but LNs are fucking awful and they should be talked about in /jp/ where the other shitty autists talk about terrible shit.

Yes I understand the animu was poorly done compared to how the novel was written.

Does that make the novel good? No. The anime wasn't amazing either other than the key scenes like Crazybitch getting crushed or the fight will Shalltear.

He's 1000% right though.

There's not a single modern Isekai that's decent.

They basically took Ash vs The Army of Darkness and took out the jokes and Bruce Campbell and put in someone who just goes 'I am protag who did something once and that makes me the best'.

Isekai has been around for decades. Fortunately it was never ultra popular so when it DID happen it was fun and interesting.

Now we get it and it's utter shit because it's full of bandwagoning faggots with no talent and /a/s taste has always been shit. Overlord was no better ofc. The LN reads like verbal poo and the animu was terrible outside of the big events like Clem vs Ainz.

Isekai as a thing is good. The problem is that you are giving a 'insert X into Y and see what Z becomes' setting to a country of people who still can't get by their superstitious beliefs in cameras.

Autists are just monkeys with typewriters. 1000 monkeys and 1000 typewriters will eventually write Shakespeare so 1000 autists with 1000 pencils drawing what those monkeys are writing are eventually make something passable as entertainment.

Unless it's a LN in which case only other autists could give a fuck despite the LN being shit.

>But it's logical
It's only logical if you design the world like a game, the whole idea that "adventurers" or whatever class exists in large numbers in the first place is something that mainly exists in game derived media. It's a holdover from having players who need an in setting excuse to go out and do bullshit and get macguffins and loot. I can think of almost no classic fantasy, or hell even too many modern fantasy that have these sorts of ideas such as groups of people who specifically identify as adventurers or any of this horseshit. Yes there are people who go on an adventure(s) as a central plot, those that were heroic, those that sold their sword, but all of that is very different than the idea of adventurers as a specific class, profession, or any of the other RPG derived ideas like dungeon diving. getting specific tasks off a board such as "kill the rats in my basement", and the like.

Again the entire point being japs have little to no exposure to fantasy besides what they know from RPG and RPG related media, to most of them them fantasy trappings and RPG trappings are the same thing when to a western fan they are clearly very different. I really don't understand how so many people are missing this simple point so hard, have you people not read any western fantasy?

To be Honest, i want an anime, more or less, a fantasy anime that reads like a book.

As in the characters are likably realistic to a degree
The Females aren't these "Supper stronk warriors" and aren't "Le Generic Princess in distress" type of bullshit
You got the fun snarky character that can be funny in critical situations
Young one that grows his character along with the others but, a bit slower
A setting that matches the adventure like Dieselpunk or Somewhere around a World War
and the equipment can't, CAN'T be the generic Katana or English straightsword. Gimmie one of those Spears or a gun or a club from Ethiopia anything but, those.

Character Deaths are the most important. Im sorry but, the show is just not fun if none of them die. Like one or 2 or 3 max need to die for the climax of the story to mean anything, but thats just me.

The common truck is the reincarnator's natural enemy. It's the only opponent that consistently gets the better of them no matter how portentious their future, no matter how overpowered their abilities, no matter how yamato their damashii. Basically the pecking order is clear:

Truck > Reincarnator > God > Man

Logically the strongest entity in the multiverse is the Mammoth Car from Speed Racer

I'm a sucker for intelligent weapons in fantasy so best case scenario I was thinking it would go full high fantasy spaghetti western. Gun gets picked up by some peasant kid looking for adventure, they become adventuring duos, the gun mentors it's wielder and keeps them alive in the rough and tumble world, and we see where the adventure takes them from there, wandering from place to place solving problems like a wild west gunslinger, and maybe edging in some sort of overarching plot about the revolution of firearms coming to a pseudo medieval world (sort of a bit of a ripoff of mononoke hime).

Though I think that's a little too western oriented to come from japan, I'd still read the more predictable and likely series. Where in a gun otaku is hit by a deadly Japanese truck trying to save his beloved airsoft rifle, once he dies he meets a god who offers to reincarnate him into any form he wishes in another world. "The choice is simple" he replies, "I want to be what I love most, a gun" The god transports him into the world, where he somehow gains the attention of a QT beast girl and they go on some sort of adventure with the power of friendship and firepower.

Alternate story:" I want to be what I love most, the M61 Vulcan" With that God transports the gun otaku into a fantasy world, where he quickly realizes he needs someone to wield him, through the power of deus ex machina a qt girl dragon comes along and picks up the shiny auto canon hoping to take it back to her treasure lair. Vulcan-san complains loudly and gets the dragons attention, eventually by impressing her with his awesome firepower the two strike a deal the dragon transports Vulcan san around his new home and in return he provides brrrrrrrrrrrtttt to protect his valet. And thus their adventures in this strange and insane land begin

Yeah, it's shit, I know. I can't write my way out of a paper bag

Protection from threats that require an organized defense. If you rely on him for things like killing a monster that's been attacking your livestock you're just asking to be taxed more than you need. What manga comes the closest to legitimately representing and feeling like an MMORPG? Most of these Isekai stories just half ass these mechanics and it feels like the authors don't even know how an MMO even works, its frustrating. As far as I know Log Horizon is pretty good with the MMO feel, it's a shame it's rather shit and that it's also a novel so the manga adaptation is probably not even as good.

Just finished reading it today, it's pretty shit and boring, its also surprising how little world building the story manages to cover compared to what RO became. I'm glad that dude dropped that manwha and went to work on the game.

It's still fairly interesting for the content you can recognize, like Guillotine Cross, Warlocks and Rune Knights being part of the story yet it only became part of the game like 7 years afterwards. Crazy to think there's still content coming out of it after so many years, there are several *new* quests created on RO that follow some of the manwha's stories, there's an NPC for Fenris Fenrir and Sara Irine the valkyrie. After so many years.

Monsters like Gremlins, that were barely introduced with Rachel being part of the story from the very beginning.

You know the stereotype of a half asleep truck driver at an ungodly hour speeding next to a cliff on an old country road that is barely wide enough for the truck itself that's present in America? (The companies give out the routes and if the driver doesn't follow said route they're fired no matter how dumb it would have been to drive on the road)
Japan does not limit that to offbeat roads. It's not quite India tier but you'd better be on the lookout for the incoming demon truck at all times.
>>
>>151306181
There's a lumberjack guild in MT too If i remember that right, fighting against the evil treant empire for who knows how long!
>>
>>151339821
>(The companies give out the routes and if the driver doesn't follow said route they're fired no matter how dumb it would have been to drive on the road)

that's because cities ban trucks from certain roads and the companies get in trouble if they drive on them.
>>
>>151340051
Not in the slightest
. It's because the company calculates the shortest route via the map/gps and then gives only enough fuel to go along that route to cut costs. The problem with this is that the maps aren't always accurate or tell you the truck can't fit in X tunnel, the road is really small or whatever else and in many cases said fact about roads that trucks are banned from is ignored in the route planning stage.
Thanks to the advent of GPS the truck drivers have even less leeway so if the company says to drive on that road the driver will drive on that road. All of that adds together into the reason why the american equivalent of Truck-san exists and it's habitat. (That's why in movies it's almost never another car you run into at night and instead it's a a truck out of nowhere)

you have a world that has a legitimate monster problem, or at the very least, a constant threat that needs to be delt with.

Monster slayer is now a profession.

Many professions fall under an organization, usually called guilds.

Now, you are in a world where magic also exists, and reagents are needed either for potions or for spells themselves, you have 'quests'/missions/expeditions to venture out and find said shit, shit is dangerous, so its usually handled by my the monster slayer guild, so the guild now becomes and adventures guild.

Any settlement with a decent population or position in the world would likely have a guild hall, or at least a place to post their problems.

now, in a world where monsters are an active threat, would you go to a fucking king for protection when its possibly a several week long journey and a crapshoot if you make it alive, or would you leave it up to the guilds/adventurers do handle the situations as they are closer and more adept to you know, adventure?
>>
>>151343041
You leave jobs like that to the local lord who is obligated to protect you and will have a retinue of trained soldiers.
>>
>>151295149
Its not even that.

many manga or stories love to ass pull deus ex machina, at the very least with rpg mechanics like a level system, you are grounded in what you can and can't do. Oh, I have fuck off amazing defense, every skill is defensive, and I can tank like a motherfucker, well, shit brick house over here is the same, but also didn't skimp on sword play so he is going to fuck you over if you have nothing but defensive.

If this was a non rpg system, they would asspull to get out of the situation and you know it, but if its rpg, its far easier to call bullshit to things that asspull that hard.
>>
>>151343118
But the local lord will cut costs for profit
He won't protect your ass because it costs too much.
>>
>>151343118
oh, what's this, the local lord isnt high ranking, is unliked and hired people who support him unquestioned over people who are good? what will we do when he only uses the soldiers as bodyguards instead of helping the people.

The way I see adventure guilds especially in a fantasy world is largely their own jurisdiction, they are an organization without or with minimal borders and when a threat happens, they can move men effectively.

>>
>>151298923
there is a ln that is kind of like this. the 'main character' forsakes one of the girls because she was not cute enough, and the girl sends a ripple through the entire setting killing off his harem one by one.
>>
>>151300369
reminds me of an /mlp/ thing

this is a world where everyone who tries their best will succeed, and that, more than magic, dragons or talking candy colored horses, is what makes it a fantasy.

In this way, any harem anime or anime where the world doesn't relentlessly shit on you is a fantasy.

for normal people, this amount of progress is a several month if not year long excursion.

There is a very good case for nerds being the powerful players in an mmo rulest world.

Because we all wanted it.
We all wish to escape this shitty reality where inequality and pressure exist. Don't you just love the idea of traveling a wide open world full of unexplored places where you can train to have the ability to hunt a few animals then call it a day? Where you can gather power without worrying of any consequences, maddeningly play with the powers too forbidden and too fantastic for mere mortal imagination. Or go find that lost relic from the age of the Gods and wield its might, gaining fame and glory for yourself or your bloodline.

This escapism is what people like and studios, writers all try to pander to this.

ok, here is the number one thing that most books, manga, and shows fall flat on their fucking face at.

world building and giving the reader/watcher a good understanding of the world fast enough that you are now invested in the story.

one way to circumvent this is make it easy to understand. whats easy to understand? rpg mechanics.

I see it more as an acknowledgement that humanity has big enough threats that we band together to deal with them, but also an acknowledgement that humans constantly want and try to get more power, the adventurer's guild is just there to either make profits for individuals as requests of governments or private interests, but stays out of the petty shit such as politics. an army capable of dealing with a kingdom in their own right without borders, that just handles the day to day threats and bullshit till they are called on for a more serious global threat.

in a fantasy world you would still need to deal with real threats from monsters, and would need to employ adventurers. not only that, you because you are in a merchant guild, you are largely all the stam strength level, so political maneuvering is important.

Personally, given the choice between the two, Id go adventurer as life kind of fucked me over to the point trusting others with important things is something I can't do, so if its my life on the line, id rather be the guy with a sword then the merchant on the wagon.

That said, Id likely join both, learn to craft items, and gain skill by going out and finding the items, most likely blacksmithing or leather work, depending on the climate, possibly normal tailoring too.

because it's easy to write and comprehend, and you'd have to add at least half of concepts of magic, armor and "common sense" of world with magic

concept of levels and stats lets you have mandatory petite maou,

you have at least a rudimentary balance between elite mages and elite fighters where the second ones get skills to compensate

there is at least an implied balancing in place. Consider mind control spells. If there is no "higher rules", why wouldn't the world (d)evolve into a hivemind of positive feedback where someone transmits a single will over a network of drones?

>tfw this will never get animooted
>tfw there will never be threads filled with arms and armor fags going ballistic over the fact that Schera is actually hilariously effective with a oversized scythe despite her being non-human
Ah well.

Well you guys dismiss actual fantasy series as shonen kid crap.

Why should Japan take the risk to fit your needs when Isekai/RPG worlds are much more marketable?

Where is mah gun-ota manga

School life is a subgenre
Cooking is a subject, like sports, that helps define subgenres
>>
>>151352280
Why isn't isekai subgenre as well?
>>
>>151305961
Reincarnate as 60iq african the same time period
>>
>>151352531
Because it's a plot device that typically only affects a single character and can become completely irrelevant depending on the plot
>>
>>151352733
most isekais have the same formula of
1.truck
2. fantasy
3. op
4. haram

i can argue that school life is marely location as well

>no manga where the MC gets reborn in a shitty mmo
>>
>>151353025
there was actually. can't remember its name, but there was one where the c got reborn into a horrible mmo that despite being available to play had tons of glaring bugs and unfair glitches in it, and sometimes just plain cruelty on the developers side.

the only thing i remeber from that work (which was dropped, at least the tl) is that the mc happened upon a group of lizardmen and a lone girl in, lets say, state of combat hostility. due to being game sawy (he played that game) he knew that he wasn't supposed to save the girl from the lizardman but the other way around. i dont remember much ore as either the tl or the manga itself was dropped.

World Customize Creator is amazing though.
>>
>>151353245
Damn. Still, I'd like one mmo thing where the MC or someone else hits the terrain wrong and falls through the world.
>>
>>151344010
Shield Bro aside from being really bad and generic its not very good with the MMO mechanics, they're just shallow, but it's not really an MMO though, same fantasy shit with superficial mechanics. I'd love if there was a proper manga set in an MMO that actually felt like an MMO.

Manga translation dead.
LN translation non existent.
WN translation can be considered dead with the current release schedule and the amount of chapters it has.

Yeah, what do you expect?
>>
>>151354491
what about half prince?
it isn't isekai but its mmo
>>
>>151354589
i expect there to be discussion on what we have so far

i expect rune speakers to come and spoil

i expect shipping, fan theories, fanart and forced memes

if animes get threads with those after a single chapter is out, hy not wn with enough english content so far for more than a cour?
>>
>>151354905
Haven't read it, sounds like shit from the synopsis though. The focus seems to be on some retarded drama about gender rather than the actual richness and potential of an MMO world.
>>
>>151354905
There's dendrogram and only sense too.

It is already a thing[Ubau Mono Ubawareru Mono./spoiler] Translations just started though, it is pretty edgy though.
>>
>>151355048
the focus is on the GB but that doesn't mean there aren't gameplay elements in it.

what about the 'database' meme anime?

Anyone want something from BookWalker?
There's quite the sale and a huge point back auction going on till the 26th.
I'd be willing to buy and share some shit as long as it's part of the auction and not too expensive.
