If your speaking strictly about the anime series, than I remember when OP's statement defensible, if not widely agreed upon.
Pokemon stagnated harder every season beyond the first.
Meanwhile, Digimon would at least change up the formula and do interesting things, once they got around to Tamers to varied degrees of success, with more hits than misses.
However, Pokemon stepped up its waifu game over the years so the hard-core otaku in the Japanese market are lusting after perfect, unaging girl children. They've even done a soft reboot with the latest season. Meanwhile digimon nosedives from a sub-par attempt at grabbing those nostalgia bucks in concert with its TV presence functionally disappearing. (Was there a Digimon series this season? I think so, but literally nobody was talking about it.)

There is a Digimon this season, but like someone said in a previous thread, they're chasing the Yokai Watch crowd. The show is full on for children. After Tamers Digimon has been going downhill.
