It's just all dictacted purely by corporate edict on what the production committees want to advertise. It used to be that creators decided they needed funding and then THEY sought out investors to form a production committee and then made some advertising concessions to them in exchange for funding so that they could roll their show. Now the production committees decide from the get go that they want to advertise one of their properties, contact popular creators and available animation studios to design an anime based around it and front them popular staffers and voice actors that they own the rights to or are favorites and then a 12 episode timeslot is rented to air it all in resulting in a mediocre transparently a commercial mess of a show typically.

Production committee entities like Aniplex, Media Factory, Lantis, Dentsu and the like half of which are actually just music companies that are subsidiaries of conglomerates like Sony, Kadokawa Shoten and Bandai's refusal to just do it right anymore and not control every aspect of every anime they come out with top to bottom purely and transparently to serve their own ends has really become hard not to notice and has crippled the ability of anime to just be good old fashion well run shows anymore.

Also the fanbase, absolutely horrible little shits who just want to bait and fight each other and talk shit all day on forums instead of having actual taste and appreciating what little shit they still do get that isn't commercially pandering schlock.

Anyway the reason you see so much fujoshi stuff is that the bigshot production committees of the industry have openly admitted that they are going after them hard as the emerging coveted big spender demographic in 2017 so I fully expect the industry to have alienated half the male fanbase and most of the current western fanbase by the time that year is out with it continuing to operate on a short term milk the literal high rollers demographic scheme.

Basically that's the core principle on which the late night anime industry revolves around but more specifically designing waifus to try to bilk desperate sad sack otaku in Japan with gambling addiction out of stupid amounts of money. This is practically the entire principle behind why things like light novel and idol anime dominate virtually every season. Now there's a counterculture targeting the fujos that is rapidly taking over and looking to form the core culture or rather core revenue structure of the industry in 2017.

Basically I figure the industry looks totally okay with alienating the actual majority of it's core viewership at the moment to go after a niche albeit high spending multiple buying demographic in the short term. Holy fuck does the current industry LOVE that multiple buyer type fan living in some forgotten corner of their parents house in Japan that proudly boasts about buying 50 copies of the same CD or BD on twitter looking for an event or voting ticket for a franchise that by it's very nature and premise alienates the majority of it's potential viewing audience.

Basically your average anime producer is like this asshole from Sailor Moon, looking not to harvest the revenue from gaining a significant worldwide number of fans, but harvesting the entire life savings of one particular kind of ultra obsessive fan willing to part with it if they can just give them the right feeling and waifu/husbando action. The fact that this business model clearly works and is arguably way easier from a production cost standpoint at least in the current short term all but dooms anime for the broader spectrum of viewers for the rest of the decade really. The only thing I'm not sure of is how they continue to spin and sell this hard culture and gender shift to the greater public as acceptable with their shills at ANN, Crunchy, MAL, Yaraon etc. because it strikes me that even the most ignorant dumbass hype kid fan is going to notice in 2017.

Yeah you have to go back to a blog article on a Japanese site from earlier this year about a week before Anime Japan 2016 where they did an interview with this Aniplex affiliated executive trying to claim that times were tough for the BD market and while all doors seemed closed as to it continuing to act as a major source of revenue for the industry they had plans to step it up along with various business partners with the anime targeting increasingly high spending female viewers by 2017 and that to look for upcoming announcements at the event to reflect this. A few weeks later they announced they were handling one of the adaptations for Touken Ranbu and found time to participate in funding several male idol shows, a flat out BL movie and several other projects clearly targeted at female viewers. Also now there's a diving anime clearly targeted at fujoshi they're rolling for noitaminA among other things when historically Aniplex didn't give a fuck about the whole sports genre thing. It's not even just them though, Toho, Avex Pictures and the like also clearly seem interested in targeting the fujoshi demographic with their upcoming projects. Even Toei who historically rolls shonen and shoujo shows seems poised to jump on the bandwagon next Spring too with one of their projects I forgot the name of.

Really I'm not another one of those assholes looking to start a gender war but it strikes me the anime industry loves to take an exclusive rather than inclusive approach whenever it looks like there's fast money to be made and I'm just not seeing the kind of bridge between male and female fans that stuff like Haikyuu offers. It just looks like a bunch of stuff that if it really starts to form the bulk of seasonal output like it looks like it will start to in 2017 is literally going to alienate the shit out of overseas non-female fans right at a time when Western entities like Funimation, Amazon, CN and even elements of Hollywood are getting involved.

that's not at all exclusive to the anime industry, it's just general modern, public company corporate mentality. They always think about short term, as everything is about the shareholder investment and stock prices going up

>2017 is literally going to alienate the shit out of overseas non-female fans right at a time when Western entities like Funimation, Amazon, CN and even elements of Hollywood are getting involved.

I'm not so sure. Shit like Re:Zero and OPM seem to be keeping the western audience interested. I think they just don't care so much about the old anime otaku core so much, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. But yeah, I can see them regreting shitting on their core audience on the long term and start pandering to them again in the future

That's wrong though, a SD of 1.25, would place 9 and 10 comfortably in such unlikely occurrences as to only be likely to occur every 1000+ (or greater) amount of anime produced. It would also comfortably place almost all anime within the 1.25 - 8.75 range.

True, but the 2001-2016 period was anomalous in it's own right, the average amount of series doubled or in some cases tripped from the average of the previous decade and I heard many say that the subsequent quality of many of those shows was worse than before due in part to possible budget issues.

Anyway ignoring all that, the probability is just a general guideline for likelihood, it's not impossible or even improbable that an unlikely event (.0001 chance), would not occur even in ~2000+ events. The inverse would be much more improbable (many unlikely events occurring in a small amount of events) though not impossible. Though I'm sorry to say I have forgotten the rather simple math to prove how unlikely or likely an outcome is to, or not to, spring from a set of events.

2017 will be worse. All the TBA series look disappointing. Even the shitposting here isn't entertaining with no material to work with, and the next meme series will probably be Fuuka (for obvious reasons)
