Since there's a new YGO movie releasing next month here in the west, I thought it would be cool to dump the original manga which the movie is based off of. For those of you who only ever watched the anime, I highly recommend reading the manga as it's much darker and better written than the anime was imo. There's also none of the fillers you have to deal with. Since the movie is releasing on Jan 27, 2017, I will dump one volume a day leading up to its release.
Today we conclude the School Arc. Prepare for Shadi's terrifying trials, Tamogatchi, American Heroes, and Capsule Monster Chess!

sorry
And that ends Volume 3 and the School Arc! Tomorrow we start Volume 4 and the beginning of the second major arc in the YGO manga: DEATH-T. It's my favorite arc in the first 7 volumes and easily one of the best arcs in the entire story. You will see just how terrifying Seto Kaiba can truly be!
>>151230277
Many thanks, anon.
>>151230277
Thanks man.
You going through Christmas break too or likely a gap between Friday and sometime before New Year's?
>>151230775
Nah, I'm busy every day but during these hours I'm free so I use that time to dump the manga. I'm not doing anything for Xmas/NewYears so I'll continue dumping a volume a day. My goal is to dump the whole manga before the movie premieres in US.
On that note, if you haven't already you can order your tickets here and see if the movie is playing in a theater near you. The site will update with more theaters over time so don't fret if you can't find one near you.

When does the 'Duelist Kingdom arc' start?
>>151231440
Does that even exist?
>>151231440
DK starts in volume 8.
>>151231564
>>151231440
According to Wiki, it begins in chapter 60.
>>151231624
Long way to go, I guess. Thanks.
>>151231660
Thanks.
I have never read the manga, i ls it poosible to see a list of the arcs?, at least the name, even if they are spoilertagged?
>>151230099
How can someone who's supposed to be good at this game not even notice he's getting set up in such an blatantly obvious way?
Also, if that "weak monster" has such a powerful special attack, anyone that's good at the game would be aware of that.
>>151232213
The first real arc is Death-T, which runs from chapter 25 to 40. Then we go back to self contained stuff for a bit, before the Monster World arc, which runs from chapter 50 to 59. And then the Duelist Kingdom arc starts in chapter 60 and runs for like a billion chapters.
>>151232494
Just chalk it up to cockyness and underestimating the opponent. The "lessons" that Yugi talks illustrate Mokuba's flaws. It's also possible Mokuba may not even know about every monster in the game too, there are plenty of pros in games who only focus on what's meta and not weak "winmore" stuff that requires a ton of set up to pull off.
>>151233043
Thanks, so the duelist kingdom is the manga's final arc then?
>>151233153
No, but I'm only familiar with the early stuff. I think Battle City is next?
>>151232213
School
Death-T
Monster World
Duelist Kingdom
DDM
Battle City
Millennium World
>>151233081
Yeah, but you'd think a monster that can kill everything in a straight path is meta enough that good players would at least be aware of it. None of Mokuba's monsters even seem to HAVE abilities.
Yugi's monster can easily shit up half the opponent's team by just moving into position unless the opponent is keeping track of it and making sure he doesn't have too many monsters lined up diagonally.
That ability is just way too powerful for the monster to be presented as "weak". Even if you just play it as a standard piece, you can literally knock out any other piece no matter its level by just moving it in a slight variant of how the other pieces would attack.
It's like playing chess and treating the knight as an irrelevant gimmick because it moves weird.

>School arc: 1-25
>Death T arc: 26-40
>Monster World arc: 41-59
>Duelist Kingdom arc: 60-133
>Dungeon Dice Monsters arc: 134-145
>Battle City arc: 146-201
>Tournament Finals arc: 202-278

>Ceremonial Battle arc: 367-343
Honestly the manga is a much better experience than any of the anime IMO. The pacing, the plot elements and other things are overall better. The first difference you'll find is probably that Duel Monsters doesn't seem that big of a deal when compared to the anime where everyone and their grandmas play the game.
>>151233704
The "School arc" isn't an arc, and the Monster World arc starts with chapter 50. Chapter 41-49 are just shorter stories that last one or two chapters each.

>>151233704
Thanks a lot, as someone wgo has only seen the anime, this will be interesting.
Hell! Shadi's intro already hooked me up given how different, yet the same is comparing both versions.
Also how the school stuff is different compared to the flashbacks are in the anime.
>>151233897
The first episode of the Duel Monsters anime wasan extremely trunctated version of the Death-T that left out most of the stuff that didn't directly involve card games and Kaiba.
The Monster World arc got sort of adapted intothat early episode where everyone gets turned into cards and learn about Bakura's evil side. The manga arc is about a tabletop rpg instead of cards, but the rough gist of what happens is the same.
>>151233609
Well it's not a straight path, it's a diagonal path to be specific. That still makes it pretty weak because it's easy enough to counter as long as you know what the monster does. It's kinda like Exodia. You can win with it but it's a weak deck because it's hard to consistently get all 5 pieces to your hand. I'm fairly certain Mokuba didn't know what it does, he just assumed he won the game when he rigged the machine and gave Yugi shit monsters.
>>151220610
when is the new movie going to be in blu ray?
>>151227352
JOJo!
>>151235258
>>151227352
Did araki draw those pages for this chapter?
>>151235315
I really doubt it but its definitely based off his style.
>>151227662
How the hell did he have time to build that entire figure while nerd-kun was out of the room?
>>151234645
Yeah, but Mokuba is presented as someone who's actually good at the game, not some random fuck that thought he'd grab an easy victory through cheating.
>>151235749
Again, mokuba IS good at the game, but he got overconfident, so much that he didnt thought his strategies properly.
>>151235749
Eh not really. I mean yeah he says he's a pro and all but he's clearly not as good as we are led to believe.
>>151235315
No it's Takahashi, but he's a huge fan of Araki and Jojo so he probably imitated his style.

Man, it's so weird looking at this series in hindsight
>Yugi solves his fights with clever thinking and resourcefulness
>Except when it's the made up games, in which he pulls a solution out of his ass because you can't say it's against the rules
>>151225959
PG Kaiji
>>151236092
Well most of the shadow games are just shit he makes up on the spot so it's kind of expected he can just whip out whatever he needs to win since he probably expects to.
>>151235953
In their second duel later, he uses a straight line-type attack on a monster with a "dodge straight line attacks" ability (which even appears be be automatic), so he doesn't seem to have any real knowledge of what the different monsters do.
Their abilities are presumably written on the actual pieces too (since Yugi DOES seem familiar with them), something he doesn't seem to bother checking.
>>151236353
A good deal of them are either specifically designed to make him win, or end with the opponent cheating.
>>151236450
To be fair, the guys he challenged were morons who didn't try modifying the rules to their favor most of the time, so it's their fault for not trying.
>>151236361
Yeah, I just think Mokuba is the classic example of a guy who thinks all the shit monsters aren't worth looking at and only focus on the high leveled ones.
>>151236361
Yeah, that wasn't even Yugi doing anything or even setting anything up, it was literally just Mokuba being an idiot and calling an attack that killed two of his own monsters because he didn't have any idea what he was calling the attack to be used on.
>>151236598
Still, Duel Monsters is supposed to be an established game big in America, so being able to suddenly cheat from that seems a bit more unusual than a game Yugi made out of a juicebox and a broken pencil.
>>151237096
Most of the cheating at that point was just pulling Fusion cards out of thin air (which, apparently, everyone did), and doing stupid shit like attacking the moon, zombie fusion, or catapult turtle bullcrap.
On card effects, that stuff applied to both sides, so no harm there.
>>151237096
Eh it's not THAT established. A pro duelist walking the streets in America won't be flocked by a ton of people or anything. But also take into account the rules used in Duelist Kingdom were special ones Pegasus created specifically for the tournament so it works for the story.
>>151237369
Its not exactly cheating, as Duel Monster in the manga universe is more like a pen&paper RPG except with cards. Its konami that standardized the game as a TCG and funded the anime to shill it
>>151237369
>and doing stupid shit like attacking the moon, zombie fusion, or catapult turtle bullcrap.
I don't remember if the anime explained in, but in the manga, it was mentioned that the Duelist Kingdom used new, special rules run by the simulators and that it was up to the players to figure them out.
>>151237497
DK rule is called the Expert rule in-universe, which is why there is all the extra mechanics. Battle City uses the "Super Expert Rule" which Kaiba created to standardize the game. Fusion/Special Summon can't attack the turn they're summoned, tribute needed for 5+ stars, etc...

If you have it take out your entire team, sure. But it can easily take out multiple of your monsters unless you take extreme care to not put them in its way.
It's also the only monster we see in any of the capmon duels that can do anything beyond variants on walking up to a specific monster and attacking it, so having to play around it most likely means you can't move your monsters as effectively as the opponent.
