Not to mention Ed isn't a borderline retard who lucks into power, and over the course of the story his supporting cast grows more useless til they are eventually just around for the bad guy to fuck their shit up so the MC can get angry enough to get his next power up.

Many characters have their own chance to be badass and they do just that, they also had actual personalities and character arcs
