Why are Japanese Politics never talked about or a focal point in anime?
Never seen Samumenco?
they do just not in the moe shit and shonen clones /a/ watches
>>151179163
You stole my post you son of a bitch
The major demographic that watches anime can barely be assed to keep track of real-life politics. Do you think they would pay attention to an anime about it?
Maybe if it had cute girls or fujoshit.
>>151179318
>cute politicians making cute legislations
I'd watch it.
>>151179117
Not anime, but you should watch Shin Gojira. It is unironically one of the best comments on globalization and imperialism I've seen in a while.
>>151179117
>>151179163
>>151179210
>>151179275
>>151179318
>demographic barely keep track of real-life politics
not the reason. The problem is rather in how that Japanese have legal precedence against explicit political lampooning. Most Japanese entertainers at large do not touch political figures.
>>151179117
GATE?
GITS?
>>151179163
And more recently Active Raid. Maybe Gate, I guess?
How much of your country's fiction deals directly with politics though, OP? It's probably not a huge proportion. And cartoons for children probably aren't where you'd look for it.
All attempts to do so were absolute garbage. Just look at logh as an example.
>>151179117
Because it would be outdated the moment it airs. For politics, fictional scenarios are better since they are timeless.
>>151179117
SZS had more than it's fair share of mentions in regards Japanese politicians
>>151179407
So instead of of political satire we get blatant propaganda like Gate, looks like we might need more than two nukes.

>>151179117
The Japanese don't like criticizing authority figures much, it's not in their culture. They're supposed to just accept it and be subservient to their hierarchical superiors.
>>151179812
Gintama is one of the few exceptions, and the fact that they actually did it was seen as shocking by people in Japan even though to us Westerners it doesn't seem like a big deal.
> "Upon watching the opening, the entire editorial staff was left speechless. Because he already knew what would happen, all Manabe [Gintama's editor] could do was remain motionless."
>The Food Wars account wrote, "The [Shonen Jump] editorial department is in an uproar about the Gintama anime opening."

Nice shitpost.
>>151179544
But who the hell cares about Japanese propaganda which is usually consumed domestically?
Its not like Kim , Putin or Xi Jinping cares about chinese cartoon enough to nuke them. Hell most people doesn't even know about propaganda in yushukan museum which is Gate amplified thousand times over.
>>151180667
The problem is with rising nationalism and a greater push for the establishment of a offensive army especially with the growing territorial threat of China isn't exactly an ideal situation.
>>151179117
The Japanese generally consider it to be highly disrespectful to make fun of their politicians. In fact, the Japanese rarely discuss politics at all, unless someone majorly fucks up.
>>151179402
I want to watch that so fucking bad, but the BD is released in March.
because nobody is interested in politics
>>151179654
Kumeta has subtle political satire pretty much in all his works.
>>151179117
There is plenty, most of the time it goes completely over your head as a reference that you think is just lolrandomxD
>>151180896
And that is why it's much easier for Japanese politicians to get away with corruption.
>>151179117
Why would someone make a political satire in anime/drawing format, caricature aside? Or, do you mean a comedy lampooning politics in one of their episodes similar to South park, or just one or two lines making a joke about politics?
Anime fans aren't political at all. Manga is broader so there are a few political things but still not like here.
I'd very much like to see a japanese equivalent of house of cards, just to see how they do it, anime or not.
>>151180839
They are 2 states not 2 tribal faction/insurgent/feuding families in lawless land.
At most we can expect radar painting and ship collision not ICBM over fishing rights or underwater rocks.
there's that poro one
>>151181058
I would love to see a Jap house of cards, but once he attempts to gain power he is just endlessly bogged down in bureaucracy.
>>151181069
I hope you seriously didn't think that I thought Japan was on the verge of nuclear war.
>>151179544
Fucking Americans. Stop slamming GATE because it shows you in a bad light, most of the shit you produce is basically propaganda anyway, the current propaganda the west is pushing is STRONG INDEPENDANT WIMMEN. At least GATE was nationalistic
>>151181180
Sorry to brake this to you but I come from a country with a functional political system, but you are mostly right.
>>151179117
Some Seinen Manga deal with it. Poison City is about the Japanese government passing strict censorship laws against Manga, showing the inner workings of the system. Even though it's been pretty popular here in Europe, you Americans have never heard of it because it hasn't even gotten fan translations in English.
>>151181180
>STRONG INDEPENDANT WIMMEN
Is that really propaganda though?
>>151181268
well start fucking translating it into english then europoors
>>151179117
You don't address politics in shows about little girls or the likes.
Actual politics are hard to incorporate because the medium isn't well-suited for it.
Metaphorical in an anime, sure.
But actually and directly? Fuck no.
>>151181180
>Criticize Americans for being nationalistic
>Proceed to praise GATE for being nationalistic
>>151181082
I know this is oni chichi, but do you know which episode was it?
>>151181138
I'm just exaggerating but its just chest thumping or in China's case the party trying to look strong.
Some propaganda for nationalist votes is not going to amount much except cause shitposting on the net for most people except maybe Flips and Taiwan.
>>151181268
At least Prophecy by the same author, which also deals with political issues, has gotten official English translations.
Man do the Japanese hate anti-whaling activists.
>>151181331
I don't know about that, nationalism and populism got fucking Donald Trump elected.
>>151179117
Most Japanese people are kinda apathetic about most political issues. Article 9 however a whole lot of people fucking hate Abe for reinterpreting that.
>>151179117
There're some manga about Japanese Politics but just didn't get anime adaptation.
https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=17545
I never really got the Gate nationalism thing. Compared to something like Mahouka it doesn't really seem overt or ridiculous.
Rose Guns DaysNot anime
Wasn't Akumetsu all about that shit? Like literally half the crazy shit the bad guys were doing actually happened? I know the one about the infected blood did, at least.
>>151181330
That's not oni chichi but all poro has the sameface.
>>151181401
That's /pol/'s fault. Azns don't have /pol/.
Unlike retarded americans people from other countries do not shove politics in everything they do.
>>151181525
God damn it. Thanks.
>>151181574

>No politic
>All these casual retards
Sure is new in here
>>151181401
Lets wait until both sides start cranking out carrier battle fleets before worrying since now its just 2 govt manipulating stuff for their benefits.
Pretty beneficial too for my country since we get them competing over business opportunities especially after we gave China a huge port for entire deep sea fishing fleet of 40+ ships.
Makes some neighbours go 'fuggen traitors' but well its not like we gonna be murdered over tuna.
>>151179117
Japanese libel laws are strict and lopsided.
Basically, any depiction of a real, living person can be libel if that person decides they don't like it. Real politics aren't depicted simply because one or more of the parties involved would dislike how they're depicted and bear down on the studio's parent company to demand they take responsibility.
This has happened to Gintama before, who got in trouble for featuring a caricature of a politician on an episode as a parody. It ended up with them off air for a while
>>151181574
>people
>countries
>thing they do
Congrats you have politics shoved up your ass.
does nips really ignorant outside their country?
does their sense of humour is really dry?
does the young generation really ignorant of the ww2 war crimes?
Like with all things, there's plenty of it in manga. The reason why anime doesn't have it is because anime is generally a risky venture and needs to double down on its extremely narrow viewerbase by pandering majorly to otaku and fujoshi.
Now stop being retarded.
>>151181685
Those are American politics, not Japanese ones.
>>151181737
Please study English for another year before posting on /a/ again.

>>151181737
The railway of death locomotive in Yushukan museum outright have english description saying its just IJA engineering corps building railways for poor Thailand.
Want the truth? It's boring and pretty anticlimatic.
Otaku just don't care about politics. It's too complicated for them to follow, if not because of the sheer amount of history needed to understand it. Young people in Japan are politically apathetic and don't even turn up for voting because they feel that one vote won't make a difference or they don't give a fuck in the first place.
Part of the reason the right-wing phenomenon is so prominent among otaku is because it's the only window they have into the world of politics. It's easy to blame all your problems on zainichi and coreans because you're too lazy to update yourself on current affairs.
>>151182010
That's part of it, but the real truth is that Japanese culture frowns on criticizing people in positions of authority.
>>151181180
>the current propaganda the west is pushing is STRONG INDEPENDANT WIMMEN

>>151182093

>>151182010
Why are American politics so much more exciting?
>>151182185
Because people feel more invested, since both sides know that the results will actually impact their lives.
>>151182185
Because you have degenerates making memes out of the candidates 24/7
>>151182185
Because American politics is a gunho 1v1 fight in which both sides consistently throw the most vile of shit at each other.
It also has the bonus of being the most influential political center of the world. Everybody stares at the US presidential election
>>151181821
I'm pretty sure that crappy food was the least of the complaints from prisoners of war.
>>151182185
Because billions of dollars are involved, and also because the media is set up so that the station with the most inane shit being said is the most popular one, it's all about the money, it is like a McElection.
>>151182185
Because the US has had representative politics for over 200 years and its seminal to the origin of their nation-state. People being active participants on the political process, and that process consequently being televised and marketed for public interest and amusement is deeply ingrained in american values. Japan was european-modeled colonial empire controlled by a military cabal in a pseudo-dictatorship until their infrastructure was leveled and rebuilt in the image of a representative government only ~50 years ago. Democracatic process is still relatively new to Japan, there are people alive in that country that lived before it was a thing. The same culture built up around public participation in politics simply isn't there
Gatchaman Crowds & Insight had some.
>>151181437
The anime toned it down. The real shit is in the LN.
>>151182119
this 'post-fact' shit is the worst thing to come out of this election
>>151182629
Oh anon, the post-fact world was always there, this election merely exposed it for all to see. We now know for a fact that many people don't care about facts, we must take that into account in the future.
>>151182185
Because the parts of American politics that you perceive through your propaganda media are tailor-made and bit-sized for your consumption.
If you aren't scared of reading something that Breitbart tells you not to read (because evil Marxist Jew Lizard conspiracy), try this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manufacturing_Consent

>>151179402
Godzilla movies have a long proud tradition of political satire. For example many nips cheered when Godzilla destroyed the City Hall Building on Godzilla vs King Ghidorah because they were complaining it was a waste of money for showing off
>>151179402
I was surprised at how good it was.
>>151181647
I was going to post this, too bad it will never be animated.
>>151181482
Correct, but the OP specified anime. You can get away with a lot more in manga, especially political commentary.
Destroy & Revolution has a slight political bent, but it doesn't go anywhere as deep into reality as some of the other stuff listed in this thread. Suicide Island also has a little bit in the beginning, since the premise of the series is based on upstanding members of society not wanting to have to deal with people who've attempted suicide and the political solution being 'just put them on an island by themselves lol.' It doesn't pop up again until the cast tries to leave the island on a raft and the JMSDF threatens to blow them up because they're 'invading territorial waters.' It's not mentioning real politicians as far as I'm aware, just how Japanese politicians prefer to handle unpleasant situations: out of sight, out of mind.
