The anime feels a bit more grounded in that regard. Nozomi almost feels hopelessly overly powerful up until her first week of the professionals in the manga. She almost feels a bit Ryokoish, like there's some weird extra factor or something in her DNA that makes her able to asspull so many new moves and take to a sport she just got into so well

Maybe this gets revealed in later chapters, as I said I'm only at chapter 97 though.

I think that the manga has enough chapters for one more season, then the Saya arc that leads to the (current) AGF one for another season.

I like the anime so far, but wished that it would have more impactful battle scenes (instead of emphasized still shots) and in larger numbers, so that they feel faster-paced and (even) more like a "battle shonen" (also, with more camera angle changes, although this would be more costly), and that the characters would communicate what's necessary, and have their thoughts and/or narrator's commentary avoid breaks in action when possible (for example, in the Nozomi vs. Usagi match, it's like the anime tries to have the watcher understand the situation while Usagi circles around Nozomi).

I usually laugh pretty fucking hard at the stillshots of the more ridiculous moves (Gate of Bootylon, Buttack on Titan, etc), a person seeing them for the very first time might well have to pause for a second just to absorb what the fuck is going on so its nice that they're just still frames. I'd otherwise say the way they animated certain moves is fantastic. The definitely-not-zawarudo visual and sound effect they did for when Miyata is K-drive teleporting around was legitimately cool and was one of the most effective ways of animating an 'instant transmission' like move I've seen in a while

iirc this is the author's (Daichi Sorayomi) second work (the first one being Momi-baraishi, don't know where or when this one was serialized), which began serialization in June/July (don't remember) of 2013, so I suppose that neither the author nor his works are well known (I don't know how popular is the magazine where it's serialized either)

So, this should explain in theory how it went unnoticed for a while, now for how it went on for so long, I think that it managed to sell enough volumes to continue being serialized in the magazine, and avoid discontinuation in place of other series that weren't well received. Seems like the magazine (Weekly Shonen Sunday) needs successful new titles (as some successful titles like Magi and Silver Spoon are approaching their natural end), and can't afford to cancel series that are stable enough for now, in favor of new titles that might be a hit or yield no return of investment.

One question is how many matches there will be. The only info we had so far is:

Over 600 players participated on prelims 1 and prelims 2 winners get in the tournament proper.

With 6 per match and one winner, that means over 100 got in prelims 2. That meant at least 16 matches of 6 in prelims 2. So maybe there is 18 matches, and then tournament proper could be 3 matches with top 2 advancing to finals. That is a way to have some characters lose to a goketsu but still advance to finals.
