Since it's the holidays, I want to spend some time gaming.
I want to do this primarily by finally sitting down and playing through Umineko after finishing Higurashi last year. I don't want to have to buy this shit on Steam cause the art looks like shit.

How does it stack up to Higurashi?

>How does it stack up to Higurashi?
The actual story itself is worse, starts off well and then turns into a big clusterfuck of literally nothing. What I just said will make more sense to you when you finish it. The cast is more likeable than Higurashi's though in my opinion and the ride itself is nuts.

You can google how to patch the PS3 sprites into the game or use the classic sprites if you don't want to use the goofy Steam sprites.

Not sure if the whole thing is on Steam. You should be able to find it easily online just by looking around though, I can't remember where I got it ages back, Google Umineko PS3 patched or something and you should find it I think.

You can find it on Nyaa and a dozen other places. I recommend the PS3 version over the Steam version.

As to Higurashi vs Umineko in general Higurashi is a bit better, but Umineko is telling a different story that some people didn't care for the ending. Personally I enjoyed it more nevertheless.

The girls aren't as cute as the ones in Higurashi.

Some of the Uminekos are just cute as the Higurashis.

Umineko starts incredibly well. The first 4 chapters are GOAT. Then one of 07th expansions members died and r07 took it really hard and the style of writing changed a lot for the last two chapters. The whole plot that was building turns into an incoherent mess with a very unsatisfying ending in my opinion. It was still very entertaining but I completely lost track of a lot of things. Higurashi's ending was pretty anti climactic in my opinion but it at least made sense, except for Hanyu's existence obviously. The characters in Umineko are better developed and the sound design is more immersive but the plot gets out of control by the end. I give both games a 9/10. I also played with tue goofy ass original sprites and would recommend you do the same because I thought both the steam and ps3 sprites looked lifeless

I liked Umineko the most and I think it's the best one objectivel. Despite being more restricted in time and space it has much more characters than Higurashi and they're all as much as developed or fun as the Higurashi characters.

I find people who are new to Umineko and sit down and read it in one go tend to enjoy it more than the people who were reading it as it came out.

All those months of discussion and speculation really overhyped the Umineko to a point where there was no way Ryukishi could deliver what the fans wanted.

I guess that's true, but I don't think it's the case for every single person who followed the series as it was release.

It's great. Umineko, Higurashi, and Danganronpa are my first recommendations to people who want to get into non-lewd VN style shit. In that order.

My biggest recommendation to newfags is to watch it with the original artwork and disable all voice acting. Yes, the new graphics are nice, but they aren't as immersive and "scary." They don't have the same "charm," I suppose you could say. Do yourself a favor and experience it with the original artwork. Disable voice acting because it completely takes you out of the experience. Umineko was downright spooky when I first read it and you will never fully appreciate the story by playing through the COD shit tier version. Do yourself a favor and experience the original thing.

>I don't want to have to buy this shit on Steam cause the art looks like shit.
I read it using the english patches on the original Japanese releases myself. But doesn't the Steam release have the old and new art with the ability to change any time you feel like it?
I was under the impression it was just the same but with more.

If you look at Umineko as a story rather than a mystery, it looks great.

Problem was people got too stuck up on knowing the truth that they pretty much missed the whole point and purpose of Umineko.

After the Manga came out with the answers, as the VN didn't explicitly reveal it, things have been more manageable and a lot more people have taken a liking to it.

Steam version uses the Pachinko models, which is the worse of the 3 versions.
>>
>>151113615
It has the original art too. Which is the best option and the one everyone should use.
