Probably because Aniplex had a very limited involvement with that one that mainly just involved publishing the Blu-Rays for Japan and doing the music while Pili and the staff handled everything else from their end without Aniplex being able to come in and demand terrible ideas for plot direction and x amount of insert songs. For the first time in a while Gen Urobuchi also just got to tell the story he clearly wanted to tell from start to finish and what a surprise it worked out okay.

It's getting a second season because it's by Aniplex and Amazon and they probably just needed some easy convenient shit to fill a timeslot for noitaminA in 2018. The show was a moderate success at best with majorly mixed reviews that didn't even make the top 5 in disc sales for it's season despite a lack of competition and the standard overhyping that goes with any Aniplex original.

Aniplex has this retarded habit of pre-planning everything like it's a guaranteed smash success just because their brand is on the package. I remember when Aniplex locked themselves into three non-consecutive split cours of Durara probably expecting it to sell like the original season did and each one clearly having demonstrably less budget, effort and marketing put into it than the last and particularly the very first which came out back when they still gave a shit about anything besides profit motive. By the time they did the last cour a year and a half after the first one for x2 started it's like it wasn't even happening.

In this case they probably just didn't pre-announce the second season because they knew it would be so far away and waited till near the end of 2016 when noitaminA block itself does all the announcements for the next year and a half or so. Remember Saekano S2 was announced like last December and won't air till Spring 2017 either.

I can't remember the last anime original announcement that looked and sounded so DoA since the last time Aniplex rolled one. I love the transparently designed to invoke images of Saber and Gilgamesh with the swords out outfit on the key visual as an early way of baiting in tards. They really do seem to be forever going for the absolute lowest common denominator and dumbest easily baited in fanboy/fangirl.

I love how Garbageplex already has a whole bunch of merchandise for this shit lined up from the get go for Comiket. Like fuck me they can't wait even a week before making whatever there latest thing is look like some design by committee schlock to milk whatever is currently popular. Let me see if I can name all the things in the first video alone for this latest go at it:

Guessing theme songs will be Sawano x Aimer again for the opening and Kalafina or Trysail for one of the endings. That about covers the shit they seem to pay attention too and the script can just be some ghost written or Okouchi/Yoshino cliffhanger garbage to keep people watching for 12 episodes as per usual. Maybe they'll pull in Urobuchi or something to try to take the hype shit into overdrive but I kind of doubt it on that one somehow.

I think it's obvious by now that's all that matters to them yes. It makes me completely avoid all their anime except to laugh at their transparent business practices and the people that continue to go through their hype->disappointment/rage cycle season after season.

Also perhaps they won't hit the 5K average. I mean they used some mega popular names with Thunberbolt Fantasy, Qualidea Code and Occultic:Nine recently and that didn't amount to a whole lot so I wouldn't even be surprised if they just sold like 3K or something. Also if this formula for originals and just leeching off of big brands like Persona, Fate, Gundam, iDOLM@STER etc is literally the only way they can even hit 5K+ anymore maybe this whole BD/Event Ticket based business model isn't all it's cracked up to be after all. Personally I just wish they'd fuck off and focus on mobage or something from now on and give the job of producing the majority of anime back to someone who actually gives a shit again so they can start to rejuvenate and breathe some life and passion back into this industry.

I left /a/ somewhere in 2013 due to loss of interest in anime. And back then literally no one cared about production companies. It was all about studios or actual directors/writers.
Now I'm reading the thread and I have no idea why would people have any feelings about production company at all. I would understand if they ruined adaptations with some bullshit. But it's original anime. What exactly did I miss?

Around 2014 and starting most noticeably with Aldnoah/Zero they started to develop this bad habit of running originals that were just mash ups of popular names and essentially just promoting themselves ahead of everyone else and forcing people making anime for them to use only their own artists and favorite people, essentially homogenizing the crap out of late night anime in the process. They also have started to weasel in on basically every brand and/or person that is even remotely popular with otaku in what looks like some sort of anti-competitive measure to have their own version of anything that was popular or at the very least tie people up that could work on hits for other producers like Attack on Titan S2, GuP's new project and have also basically taken over the noitaminA block and turned it into a complete commercial shit block with so many interests honed in on it that it's impossible for it to accomplish much artistically anymore with it. They had also led the charge on anime meant to sell based off of events, names and voice actors to fanboys/fangirls (why almost all of their shit has the same basic cast make up) that buy multiple copies of stuff to try to see an event or concert with people like Yuki Kaji or Yuuki Aoi instead of selling based on actually being quality well put together shows. They basically accomplished all this in a little under 3 years too and it doesn't look like the anime industry is ever going to recover condemning us to a sea of mass produced garbage with the same voice actors, composers and writers that they promote handling basically everything.
