This is necessary, or else you end up with a rushed death confession to a fight where the protag fought the bad guy without really knowing his motives just to further the agenda of a vast political and cultural entity backing him. Like with Bleach, where both Aizen and Yhwach were completely justified and right in doing what they did after they revealed their true plans, and Ichigo only helped SS preserve their power.
