Well, Tomoya does act like a total dick in the anime. But when you read the LN or at least the manga, there is a part of him which didn't get flesh out in the anime. And those parts really gave some context of his action in which anime failed to explain. And also some important reasons like, why Megumi? Why he didn't create a character from scratch? And why no one can possibly win despite Eririfags gloating the one scene in vol 6?
