Honestly, the adaption is pretty faithful to the manga. The problem is that the pacing of the manga is rather slow and the anime just makes it worse. Not only that, at the pace of the anime (2 chapters per episode) the ending is gonna be rather underwhelming. If they had made it 3 chapters per episode they would've ended it at the end of possibly the best arc in the manga. So, they fucked up big time with the pacing

Almost every death is preceded by the character's backstory with the exception of Ninjaboobs, who isn't dead yet and had received a decent amount of non-transformed screentime. This very rarely has an effect on how we feel about them.
