Rakudai's not a harem. It was a "love rivalry" at most for a while where two girls were fighting over the MC but the other girl eventually gives up and accepts the other one anyway. The MC has no other love interests.

Harem has to be the worst genre. It is, like you said, generic. Japs do not have foresight or planning, girls are cliches, stereotypes, girls you can explain "like ____ from _____".
I'm not saying harem is inherently bad, I'm saying Japs cannot do harem because they think their ideas ABOUT THE SITUATION are interesting when it should be the characters who are interesting. Nigger it doesn't fucking matter if they're in middle school, high school, space or another planet. It's actual thought out characters that sell a harem, and no harem has that, because they have the task of introducing 5-7 unique girls in one episode so the way you tell them apart is their hair style and color.

I enjoy harems, I kind of like them for the same reason I like sitcoms, its derivative sure, but if you enjoy the general premise and interactions, there are a fair number of competently executed ones out there that won't blow your mind, but are a pleasant way to pass the time; once again, if you're into that kind of thing.
