God Im so fucking mad, this anime was going 10/10 then episode 12 happens and everything went to the shitter. Why go on the tragic path and then do a full 180ยบ and friendship power saves the world?
Before episode 12:
>If you fight you lose your bodily functions until you are just a mere husk rotting on a bed, heck you can't even root/die because heroes can't die, only suffering and despair remain.
>The fights are never going to end as the enemies are close to infinite.

On episode 12:

>The infinite enemies can be beaten with the power of friendship.
Tougo was fucking great, she saw the destiny that she and her friends would get without a doubt and decides that death is far more merciful, as even the small happiness they shared could dissapear when the memory loss strike BUT NO, yuna says that even if she were going to lose her memories she still would remember Tougou, even tought Tougou is the living proof that erased memories will never return, then friendship power saves the day and everthing ends happpily.
At least Madoka had the balls to stay on the tragic ending:
>Homura failed to save Madoka and have to live without her.
>All the magical girls are still forced to fight unil they die, heck the anime ended with homura going to the battle were she was going to to die.
>Sayaka still got her bad end anyways.
The only "happy" thing about the ending was that Madoka this time choose death by her own volition and that magical girls don't become the monsters they are trying to stop.
The movie still have a bad ending as Homura decides to steal madoka's choice and still can't be toguether with her.

Nah, Tougou was a self-proclaimed tragic heroine with clouded judgment and superiority complex, but she got shown what real strength is by other girls, the hard way.
And a happy ending was fine for this series, even if it foreshadowed upcoming tragedy when Yuuna suddenly almost collapsed during the play, which was a great touch.
10/10 series, Christmas was saved that year, no wonder it became a surprise best-seller.

as far as how the ending fits, it's not that bad
sonoko after talks about they got their shit back and the yuusha system was open to more people because the gods began to believe in human courage after the yuuna fiasco. her last mankai didn't draw power from the roots, it came from within, something the gods had never seen before or probably ever believed could happen.

The ending was badly presented, but not badly written.
- It was said earlier during the beach trip that offerings can be returned after a while
- Things aren't daijoubu at fucking all if you look closely
- And if you don't look closely, the world is still FUCKED.
Now do some googling around or just rewatch the final scene very closely. Notice how Yuuna's final transformation is different than usual and how all the other girls have their fairies turn to petals - but not Yuuna.

I like both and MGRP has some issues with the anime, mainly flashbacks before the death of a character that episode. Overall, Yuyuyu has better production values and a more interesting story but MGRP has a better executed story, especially the ending.
However, I think both series thrive on the light novel material that are both way better than what is anime only.
At least until Yuyuyu S2 is out and hopefully we can see them expand on the Sonoko After epilogue.

The way it was going, Shinjuu was only letting in a few Vertex at a time. But when Tougou destroyed the wall and all the Vertex of the area were let in, Shinjuu got enough powers to afford to give back the offerings (wether out of fear/appreciation/something else) and repair the barrier.

I got over the whole shock value dark magical girl anime thing pretty fast, especially after the dreadful Madoka film. I mean I surprisingly enjoyed Madoka Magica the series despite almost always finding Aniplex originals monstrously overhyped and not nearly as good as typical anime fans seem to, but I really don't see why people continue to dwell on it or treat it as the be all end all example of a magical girl anime to which all others must be compared to except maybe in this one instance.
Also one thing Urobuchi never learned and was especially apparent with the dreadful movie sequel which is how I expected the TV series to turn out when I first heard about it is that just because you can have a "tragic" good guys "lose" and everything returns to the status quo finale rife with IMO misplaced cynicism about heroism and virtue doesn't automatically make you a master stroke writer. A bitter sweet finale executed well like the way the TV series did is totally fine, the buildup and tone was there and it made sense thematically. Whatever the fuck that movie ending was supposed to represent or how it was supposed to resonate thematically with the audience is beyond me though and nothing to go off of as an example of great writing. Thing is by the end of Yuuki Yuuna at least Tougou's character still made fucking sense and you knew what she was supposed to be all about. Can't say the same for any of the cast in Madoka Magica now after the movie where it seems like they just deliberately made it a clusterfuck of loose ends that they could go anywhere with if they ever choose to follow up on it.

I liked YuYuYu but I agree that the ending is a piece of garbage. The thing about Madoka is that it knew how to handle its tragedy and follow through without holding back and trying to have it both ways.
