I like the new episode. However, it felt rather rushed, the way the story was told. This show should've been 2 cour or have at least 15 episodes. This episode felt like it should've been split into two considering the story-telling style of the show. Also I hope we get a good explanation of Papika's aging mystery the next episode. And I want to understand more of Nyunyu's role in all of this.

In all honesty the show did drop in quality for me and the second half starting from episode 10 felt a bit inconsistent and rushed compared to the brilliant first 9 episodes. The QUALITY scenes have also increased as well. I honestly feel that Pandora was better at the story-telling aspect because it was comfy from the beginning to the end.

Easy fix: just start episode 10 with the flashback. No previous introduction or framing, Madoka 10 style. The flashback can end in the exact same place and transition directly into the first scene of the episode of Papika looking troubled at her fragment. It segues directly from #9's cliffhanger and into the understanding that Papika has now regained her full memories without having to explain anything (such as Salt flat-out telling us that she did). With that, the confrontation at the pipe can play out much more succintly and establish the shattering of Cocona's worldview as having a sudden, direct impact rather than something padded out.

Yeah, that’s the example that has been on my mind too. Has very rapid cuts as well and covers an enormous amount of story, but it works as a self contained entity within the bigger picture. Mostly by not constantly ripping you out of one to put you into the other. It even beautifully takes advantage of TV anime as a medium and hides the cuts into and out of the flashback in OP/ED sequences and ideally even a week long wait.
It’s not a flashback that takes place physically in the world somewhere to get one character to explain something to another, you are not sitting there wondering what the actual humans are doing during those 20 minutes of flashback. As far as anime flashbacks go, this is pretty much the gold standard.

The only information that Cocona needed to learn in order for her outburst to make sense was that Mimi was Papika's treasured friend she meet way before Cocona, and the person who first took her to PI. The rest of that scene could just be Papika making a mess of herself trying to explain things as Cocona gets angrier and antsier, most of the flashback is irrelevant in terms of the emotional conflict presented at that point.

I also don't think that would be particularly a Madoka rip-off, it's not like Madoka is the only piece of fiction to ever do that. It's pretty common in fact. It'd be like calling ep6's blue-orange dynamic an ufotable ripoff (kek)

That flashback could work in a concise way because the whole show was more tight, integrated, and didn't suffer from the tone shift or needed any abrupt adjustment from the viewer himself. Thus, it didn't have to cram as much information as possible in one episode. It is more thoughtful and comprehensive than this show. For example, we have already been shown that the numerous PI worlds were in some way a manifestation of the Mimi's memories, but it was all buried altogether by the lack of screentime, as the plot needed to progress forward too, not only to 'reveal' the past.

I was disappointed about Nyunyu in this episode. I thought she would be less.... cooperative, to say the least. She feels like part of the original story but then they changed everything because someone came up with the yandere Mimi story instead.

Papika shouldn't have been a part of Mimi and Salt's past to be honest. It leaves a bad taste in the audience's mouths when they look back at the previous episodes, and adds in another convoluted aspect into the whole story.

Not really. Madoka is very explicit, and good at that kind of explicit storytelling. Flip Flapper’s very implicit approach is no less valid, and the show is also very good at it. The problem is that it switched gears to something it’s not good at. That doesn’t mean that this switch is inherently bad either, just that it was badly executed.

I would have preferred no switch, but both versions could have been made to work. No, there’s no need to explicitly know everything about Mimi’s memories, or really anything about her at all. She could have stayed a symbolic mother figure and that would have been fine. Or they could have switched gears and explained everything in one comprehensive flashback, or even multiple ones that are better done. Or something else entirely, who knows, there are many options and a good creative writer could probably come up with quite a few new ones.

Salt's dad used himself as the test subject for the Elpis' first trial run.
Mimi wanted to escape because she was preggers and didn't want to have her child in the research facility
Salt didn't want to abandon his dad now that he'd gone mad.

When cornered, Mimi looked inside herself and found the will to do what's necessary to protect her child, which in this case involved turning her powers against the entire research facility. Apparently this was something like an irreversible shift in her psychology, hence why she's now postal and rampaging against everyone for the sake of her daughter

At the end, Mimi retreated into PI and Papika followed her. We haven't seen what happens afterwards yet. Since Salt's dad does end up being the one to have Cocona, we're clearly not done with this story yet.

Many of the comments are fairly similar, the threads are much slower, they are nearing 15000 posts total and we had half that in one week. Way less shitposting, they have an "anti" thread for that, no yuri based shitfits and baiting of yurifags.
