I seriously don't get how IB functions. It works on miracles from god, but doesn't work on the collective wishes of the people (probably). So I just started the Index anime.
It's okay-ish so far, the arcs start interesting but so far the resolutions were gutter trash tier.

Just got to the point where loli misaka is introduced.
Loli fanservice is about the best point this show excels at so far, I don't think I've seen something go these lengths before to show a fact, yes the author is a pedo we get it already.

Do I watch Railgun after this or what?
Is it an alternate universe or something?

Railgun is a spinoff focused on Mikoto and her friends. The first season is average and has too much filler, but Railgun S is fucking great.

Railgun anime is a sidestory, occurring prior and during the events of 2 first arcs of Index (Index and Deep Blood Arc) First half is the Level Upper Arc and is jumbled up the director to emphasize on the "four girl" ensemble that characterized K-On, often removing key scenes that connect it with Index (like Misaka going off to meet/fight Kamijou so you can tell where in the timeline Railgun is). Other half is a filler arc an original story for the anime with notes from the author. First season emphasized on "muh friendship" very much.

Second season, Railgun S, is much more polished and plot heavy, as the director is reined it and forced to adapt an arc where there is barely the rest of the other girls (though he tries). It is the Sisters Arc and in Misaka's POV. It occurs a while before the start the Index version of the arc, and is much more close to the author's original vision of the arc. It is the definitive animated form of the arc. Railgun's Sisters Arc pretty much shits on the "you are not alone" theme going on in the first season, where Misaka is completely aware of how stupidly dangerous it is to involve her friends in dark side of the city stuff. But oh, the director really tries, and in it comes to head in the second half of the season, where Misaka is forced to do really dumb shit just to force her to ask her friends for help. Second arc has barely any input from the author and it is most original, and unlike the second half of the first season doesn't reference or shows the origin of key items from the universe (Body Crystal and the Level 6 Shifts not isolated to just Accelerator). It's just an orgy of self-indulgence for the director whom I am told hated adapting the Sisters Arc.
