He is, don't get me wrong. But in terms of their friendship, there's a lot of work to be done. They don't know each other too well, if CA is anything to go by and having gone through that whole ordeal strained things a bit. You have a spoiled brat assassin and a wild kid that never interacted with other people outside his island, literally oil and water. It was more on Killua than Gon, but CA switched it around, making Gon more of a bad friend and Killua softening up. But when you go through what they did, the first friend is always going to be special, regardless.
